newegg 20% off using paypal (cheap hdds!)

It makes sense that if Paypal divvied up their funds for each merchant that newegg and dell would be used up first. So I take it that Dell and Newegg have reached their limit of rebate funds? And that is why they were still available yesterday?

my sales slip says Time of charge: 11/26/2007 3:00:56 PM

wah, theres always some sort of problem when i try these things. i talked to newegg in live chat and heres the convo:

Thank you for contacting Newegg. My name is CoCo. How may I assist you today?
Dave: hey
Dave: i put an order in yesterday, and am wondering if i got the 20 percent
CoCo: Yes, the order qualified for the Promotional Savings/
Dave: cool thanks, have a good day!

theres mass confusion all over the net about this, someone really messed up.

Hrm. I talked to a live chat person and he said he was unsure if I was going to get the rebate but Id recieve an email soon letting me know. He said if I was ineligible I could always refuse delivery. Very nice seeing how the parts were for a build Im doing for a friend.

I guess this is why we have ressellerratings and BBB. An honest mistake I could understand but changing the date on the banner after the fact seems fishy.

Eggxpert forums seem to have a moderator that thinks it’s cute to edit posts, there’s a thread on there that was originally titled NewEgg & PayPal: Egg comes out stinky on this and changed it to NewEgg & PayPal: I Like Pie!

Must not say anything remotely bad about newegg tisk tisk, there was nothing inflammatory in the thread title and the majority of the posts in the thread calmly state their grievances over how the deal was handled.

Great, their forum mod's idea of addressing the issue is 1) censor it in a way that mocks the offended customers, 2) post to the thread insulting the customers for being offended that you jerked them around.

Newegg just keeps racking up points on this one.

I've always been a big newegg fan, but I'm halfway tempted to refuse delivery on the two things I ordered last week. I didn't really need them anyway. I just feel pretty ripped that they didn't give any indication that there was a possibility that the promotion would end prematurely. I realize they had their disclaimers, but the fact that they didn't mention anything about there being a limit torques me.

Damn, I was sick yesterday and miss this 20% cashback. I wanted IP35 Pro and Q6600.

For those still tracking this issue it looks like we'll see a formal announcement soonish

Through out this whole thing all I've been asking for is more time. I know for a fact that Newegg is working on a solution. There were in fact SEVERAL meetings yesterday to discuss this issue. I'm sure we will all hear something today.

People that say we should make a formal announcement... YES... we agree! We need some decisions made before we can do that.

Those that want an "official" thread created... we will do that when we have the solution in hand. I will send an email blast to all EggXperts, make a front page announcement as well as a forum announcement. We are on it. We are listening, and as the rest of you, we are waiting to hear from the decision makers.

I was a huge fan until last year when I ordered an OEM drive and it came in a box with 2 air bubble things just flopping around in a huge box. This time it doesnt look like Im getting my 50 bucks , my order is coming from 4 different places and the delivery date for the mobo is 8 days from when I ordered.

I didnt save any money and I get to wait....:(

I used the paypal 20% back as my reason to purchase the shuttle I was looking at (my order went through about 10 mins after midnight monday, so really really early monday morning :p ).

Did I get this rebate or am I shafted outta 50 bucks? :(

You should find out for sure in about...two months. Newegg's staff have been giving out very inconsistent reports about when they cut off the deal, and it's apparently processed as a cashback through PayPal significantly after the sale date. So if the money never shows up, it'll be well after you could terminate the purchase you made on the grounds you were getting $50 off $250. Very, very bad juju.

Not if the room is spinning... :p

Feeling better, I hope?

They've been pulling that for years. Never really gotten a response out of them about it, only a few confused "yeah, so?" remarks out of CS reps that probably didn't understand why it was an issue. No response from other places like service emails, Newegg_Webmaster, so forth. I think less of them for it, but avoid the problem by not buying hard drives from them unless there's a really good sale...but that sort of problem and their lack of response to complaints about it makes it easier for me to think badly of them when things like this happen.

I received my WD 750 gb hard drive today and it was also thrown in a box wrapped in bubble wrap. I had better get my 20% off :(

The drive was in a static bag right? Was there also peanuts in the box?

They usually do: antistatic bag, bubble wrap, peanuts. If you pick a drive manufacturer at random and read their RMA policy, you may note that this packaging method is not sufficient to protect the drive. They don't always use the peanuts, either.

Nothing I've bought from newegg has been packed with peanuts in at least 6 months, they only use this shitty brown paper as padding.

I'm just glad i was able to pick up my 1tb mybook in time to get the 20% cashback...i planned on coming back for some more deals once i figured out if i could get it again by doing a separate transaction, but by the time i looked into that the deal was already dead.

oh well.

Yeah, that. There's not nearly enough to even justify calling it padding, it's just a wad of paper thrown in there.

Yes it was in a static bag with peanuts but there was still room for it to move around in the box. The box seems to be ok but I haven't tested the drive yet.

Crysis & COD4 both arrived from Newegg this week packed in peanuts. Next day too. Newegg rocks. It's paypal who sucks, but then again, you're getting 20% for doing nothing, so let's not whine too much.

My 1tb drive came stuffed with brown paper....

Mine 1Tb came from newegg next day with peanuts, bubble wrap and anti static bag so i'm satisfy. Paid 219.00 and expecting 46 bucks back from paypal. Any minutes now!

my order went through at 11 something AM on the 26, got confirmation emails at 2 saying it all went through and was charged. I should get the paypal 50 back right? I spent 250 banking on it...

Just got my 1TB today (($250 - $30 - $5 = :)) - it was in an anti-static bag wrapped in bubble wrap and surrounded by peanuts. Different online stores tend to ship hard drives differently, but this seems pretty standard to me. Zipzoomfly is definitely best IMHO - they always pack their drives in solid foam boxes surrounded by peanuts not to mention that their hard drive prices are usually some of the lowest around.

On another note I've got the 1TB hooked up and DANG is this thing quiet. Now I just got to wait until it finishes cloning my primary drive...

The newegg / paypal deal would have really been a great smoking deal if the Cyber Monday actually had stuff on sale.

Are we using the thread to complain about Newegg's packaging? I'll join in. I ordered a bunch of stuff, shipped out in I believe 7 packages. Almost none of them used more than one piece of tape (crappy tape, not the thick acrylic stuff I use when I ship stuff) per side and I'm surprised a couple of them didn't open up because the tape was partially ripped or missing. Also, I got a PS3 and it had paper packing but it still could move around the box and it was actually touching one side of the box without paper. Someone put the PS3 box in, added some paper and shipped it. Fortunately it wasn't damaged.

so this sale is still working with newegg and paypal?

dead?...it never really started in the first place...this sale was still supposedly going on until the 28th (according to the page I linked from), I placed an order and then after reading all the flak in forums I live chatted with a Newegg rep who told me it was over...I referred him to the page I had linked from and he said too bad, so sad, that it had run out of funds @ noon (I placed my order @ 3:20pm EST on the 26th....he told me he would refer the page (which still showed as 20% off and good till the 28th) to his webmaster...canceled my order...30 minutes later the page now showed as "offer ended" and the date had miraculously been changed to "ends 11/26/2007"....that's what they get for partnering with Paypal...lots more here http://www.eggxpert.com/forums/thread/211822.aspx

damn. ok guess I wasn't as big an idiot in thinking I'd be able to order a day later when I first saw the deal. grrr

really need a hard drive now. have 4gb free. what to do!!!! help :(

How are the 1tb WDs?? I just got mine and it will not start up correctly, It spins up slowly, and then shuts off after 15 seconds.. I guess I will have to RMA, it sucks getting a doa drive....

The WD drives are quite nice. What you're seeing is almost certainly the result of Newegg's crappy packaging + UPS's gentle handling.

Still nothing official on the Eggxpert thread, it appears. I'm thinking there will be more fun in a couple months when a bunch of people that were told they got in don't get their money, since there the response from Newegg on the cutoff time varies so much.

I'm in the same boat, except I had two of them DOA. One was not even in the bubble wrap anymore, the other had the silica stuff completely crushed to where there was like sand all over the drive. I sent an email complaining, my first choice would be to return for full refund and pay 30$ more or so to buy it somewhere else.

RMAed mine last night, but it was well shipped, the only time I have had Newegg ship drives to me badly was 2 Raptors 1.5yrs ago, they put 2 of them on top of each other and bubble wraped the 2, I got and they banged when I pulled them, out of the box...
Hopefully it was just a bad batch that Newegg received from WD:)
