newegg 20% off using paypal (cheap hdds!)

RMAed mine last night, but it was well shipped, the only time I have had Newegg ship drives to me badly was 2 Raptors 1.5yrs ago, they put 2 of them on top of each other and bubble wraped the 2, I got and they banged when I pulled them, out of the box...
Hopefully it was just a bad batch that Newegg received from WD:)

i just received my two 750aaks drives packed this way. two drives stacked on top of each other and then wrapped in bubble wrap. both drives have scuff marks on them and one has a piece of plastic that is broke, and of course is DOA. way to go newegg, a friekin 5 year old could figure out thats a bad way to package drives. c'mon you have been in the business for far too long to pack drives this way, its not like its a rare problem, i constantly see people complaining about poorly packaged drives. you are only hurting yourselves with the RMA's, get with the program.

Yeah, that's not very smart of them. Should've wrapped each drive individually. When I ordered mine, each came in a static bag and was individually wrapped in bubble wrap.

One reason I buy retail drives from the Egg is because they come packed better individually. That said, at least the WD750AAKS has the SecurePark feature where the heads are parked away from contact with disks. If you have to bunk a couple drives together the 750AAKS's are the ones to do it with.

Well, at least one dead GP from this batch already. Took me a while to get around to testing them with finals coming up, and can only test 2-3 drives in a day fully. Of course, the one I found dead didn't even initialize for the quick test, and couldn't hold a partition past a reboot.

glad to hear some people are getting the cash back already. im wondering if returning my drives may cause a problem with receiving the 50 bucks. looks like they cancelled my first charge of 300 and issued a new charge. we shall see i guess.

I would post on their forum eggxpert.com with details, you may get a good response. Ask them to pay return shipping.

When I order hard drives from them it's always as an individual order per drive. That is the best way to get a properly packaged drive. Depending on their warehouse, you will get varying levels of packaging quality. I received a motherboard recently that was packed in 1000 peanuts on top, but rested flat against the bottom of the box. DOA. Coincidence?

yea good idea, i wish i would have made separate orders when i bought them. kinda tough to do it during an rma. i contacted them and they are having ups pick them up, so im not paying shipping. pretty dumb though, they made the claim as shipping damage. its newegg damage if you ask me.

Good, at least they're getting it done. I have had very good service from them. They will know who packed that. I bet they have a high turnover rate at those warehouses.

I have had similar packing experiences so decided to order separate when it comes to a mix of oem and fragile items.

Transfer To Credit Card Dec. 6, 2007 Completed Details -$50.00 USD $0.00 USD

My 3 750AAKS drives arrived individually wrapped in bubble and in a sea of peanuts. All 3 are working fine (minus being down to 100GiB free :/ )
Newegg ++

I ordered two Samsung Spinpoint 500gb hdds they arrived in their plastic cases wrapped together in bubble wrap, no problems with them and they looked secure in their plastic cases so +1 for NewEgg.

well, it worked! got the cash this morning. very suprised it went this quickly

I just got my 20% cash back also, very satisfied with the speed of the rebate.

damn. can't believe you guys got it before the end of january. real steamed I missed this :(

Got my cash back this morning, too.

Paypal seems to have become pretty effecient with these quasi-rebates they do, considering we get just about zero documentation telling us whether we're getting it or not half the time. :) Happy customer here.

Did you guys order before the "official unofficial" end time of like the 26th or whatever it was?

I ordered some stuff like the day after people started saying it was over, just wondering if I had any chance in hell.

I hate to say it, but based on everything I have seen from Newegg you don't have a chance in hell. The offical promotion ended at 2:30 p.m. PST, however Newegg is covering the promotion for orders placed between 2:30 p.m. PST and 5:30 p.m. PST when it was supposedly pulled from their site.

Got my first $50 today. It came on the account that had my latest order which was 12:06 p.m. PST.
