New Mass Effect Game

The hell with that. I want to see the graphics envelope pushed. I don't see why both things can't be done at the same time frankly.

I don’t really care anymore. A good game is a good game, and I just want it to run 4k/60 without hitching.

I agree with both perspectives; but with a competent dev team there's really no reason you can't have both. Best example I can think of is id Sofware with the Doom games where they have a very performant engine/game while also implementing full RT/PT with other nice tech in them as well. But given a not-so competent dev team, esp. while using UE5+, I would prefer they focus on performance over image quality and effects with how much of an issue it's been since UE5's (and UE4 to a lesser extent really) use in games.

Going back to the ME: U trailer, it did look promising to me and I didn't really see any red flags in it from a character perspective at least. But it was very little to go on and I still would not trust anyone at Bioware to do another ME at this point and would rather them just leave the series dead unless they somehow got some of the original team involved with the game and also really recognized why they're previous games have failed despite being reviewed well and being graphically competent.

I'm just so tired of seeing western studios running our favorite franchises into the ground just so they can inject their message and characters into them because they abolutely know they wouldn't have a chance of succeeding in a new IP (i.e. Forspoken, Dustborn, 1348 Ex Voto, etc.).

"Canceled Mass Effect Details Surface After BioWare Shutdown

by DrUsmanSaleem Today, 12:29 Discuss (0 Comments)
A day after the trailer for BioWare's canceled Mass Effect game leaked, Australian YouTuber Dantics has shared what he claims are details about the project, which he calls Mass Effect Universe. Dantics says he was part of a private "Mass Effect Council" of content creators who saw the game and gave feedback during development, and that BioWare closing its doors means he can finally talk about it. According to his post on X, the game was set more than 600 years after the Reaper War, with players taking on the role of a customizable N7 agent, which he likens to a cross between John Wick and James Bond. Apparently, the galaxy was split into three factions (humanity, the Krogan and Batarians in one bloc, the Council races in another, and the Geth as a third superpower), locked in a galactic Cold War instead of another Reaper-style invasion.

Dantics also lists experimental implants that let players see through walls and remotely trigger hazards, handcrafted missions with Hitman-style freedom, brutal close-range executions, squadmates who clash, and Liara returning as a powerful Asari Matriarch. In a separate video, he says the game was being built to accommodate all three Mass Effect 3 endings. His council role hasn't been independently confirmed, though BioWare has credited community councils in past games, and project lead Michael Gamble follows him on X. EA hasn't commented on any of it, and since the game was still in early development when EA cut around 400 jobs, roughly 50 of them at BioWare, it's hard to say how much of this would have made it to launch."

Deus Ex but mass effect would have been pretty fun, but I just don’t see them have pulling it off.

I loved ME (not Andro, though). The games had their issues, but I loved the characters and the overall story. It's a shame what happened to Bioware (and the industry as a whole).

I watched this video and think there is the possibility they were going in the right direction. There is of course some bias there but the person points out the failings of Veilguard, the politics of it and how it would preach things as being a key aspect for its failure as well as Bioware's failure. I think the person had a level headed perspective. Now I am a bit more saddened to see this cancelled but it is hard to say if others at Bioware would have sunk the game later in development.

Yeah I agree. I think it's likely that all of their games started out pretty good but once they added the 300 DEI hires from the Veilguard team it would eventually crater it every time. Asking for sweat baby or some other scam company to clip it's nuts before launch was always something they had to look forward to as well.

That's pretty much my take on it.

I've had a wild thought. What if it's all a psyop? I mean too many things just don't add up.
  1. Trailer mysteriously leaks just at the moment they announce the canceling.
  2. If they had a trailer ready to go, why was it being held back?
  3. If it wasn't a deliberate leak they'd be hitting everyone showing it with DMCAs.
  4. Prominent influencer insider immediately puts out a video that seems too detailed to have been made in the moment. Too well structured, doesn't seem like something you slap together in a day.
  5. NDAs aren't just nullified automatically when they announce that they are canceling a game.
  6. EA certainly wouldn't have given the A-OK in advance to spill the beans on a cancelled project just as they announce the cancellation.
The NDA thing has been bugging me the most, if they were silent for a few weeks at least then I'd find it plausible that the NDAs were lifted by then. But even that would be sus. Star Wars 1313 NDAs were in effect for years.

It could be orchestrated either by EA themselves to feel out the viability of a Mass Effect, or by bioware as a desperate attempt to save their asses.

I think COD games are sanctioned by the Military to get more recruits I'm not sure about this game. For all I know EA staff is a buch of chair sitters who sit on Xchairs all day.
The crash was going to happen I would say 2010 was peak gaming. Part of the problem is productivity just taking too long to put out games I mean look at Camelot Unchained from 2013
somone said they just should over and put the game in a AI game generator.

You could see what happened to Facebook and all of the other social media sites when the U.S. government changed leadership. Obviously money was being pushed on them from somewhere and threats were being made. Plenty of the social media guys openly talked about how the government forced agents onto their workforce and forced them to silence political opponents ect with oversight. When Elon Musk fired 90% of the staff on X it made no difference because they were all activist dead weight. They even banned the president of the United States from their platform.

It takes 10 years to make a game when you hire people that don't know anything about making games. Look at the history of the transgender team leads that all took power during a certain administration. None of them have any credentials for leadership roles. Who knows, their goal might have been to destroy as many businesses in the West as possible. They all appear to be anti west terrorists to me. Hollywood, the music industry, the games industry, manufacturing from the auto industry to the chip industry. All of them were destroyed in the last 10 years. Even the education system seems to have been poisoned intentionally. Fraud is purposely being allowed even to this day in places like California. The raising costs and taking more money from the middle class to pay for the poor while importing an army of talentless criminals that need to be paid for. I could go on and on.

Not to mention the corrupt media from game journalists to the main news outlets. They actively hate their own country and don't report on criminal activity so it can fester. They lead companies like Bioware into their own destruction by misreporting the facts. Most likely the reason why they are dying now is because the money dried up. Most likely it was cut off by the anti fraud measures taken in DC. It's pretty bad when the president has to pay guys like Nick Shirly to report on fraud because the media won't do their jobs.

Inject politics into games and then ban anyone who mentions politics on a gaming forum. Ridiculous!

“Nearly 180,000 Fans Sign #SaveMassEffect Petition Following BioWare Shutdown

by DrUsmanSaleem Today, 12:00 Discuss (8 Comments)
A fan petition asking EA to keep Mass Effect alive has picked up close to 180,000 signatures in just a few days. The #SaveMassEffect petition went up on Change.org on October 21, the same day EA shut down BioWare and ended early development on the next Mass Effect game. It asks EA to commit to continued development of the series with proper funding, staffing and time, or, if that's off the table, to license the Mass Effect IP to another studio that wants to carry it forward. The count is still climbing, and EA hasn't responded so far.

The petition grew out of a rough week for BioWare fans. EA is cutting around 400 jobs, roughly 50 of them tied to the canceled game, which a leaked trailer showed was going to be called Mass Effect: Universe. A content creator who says he saw the project during development has also shared what he claims are details about its story and setting. The licensing ask isn't entirely far-fetched, either. Former BioWare executive producer Mark Darrah has pointed out that EA owns all of BioWare's IPs, and that with nobody left working on them, EA might sell them off, or just bury them in the vault.“

I would be happy if EA sold the IP to a competent game studio. Same with UBI's IP's being sold off. That is the only hope that these IP's will be done right. The only other option would be if EA assigned the IP to a new team that they hire in the future. Being that EA is now a new company with new management that might actually know what they are doing. Hopefully they will assign a new team that is actually up to the task and doesn't need 6 years of pre production to make a trailer.

  1. Trailer mysteriously leaks just at the moment they announce the canceling.
There are several reasons that trailer could have been made. It may have been made to show the higher ups what to expect if they were allowed to complete the game. It may have been a "save our jobs" type of move. This may not have been as sudden as it seems from our point of view. Sometimes, trailers are used for securing funding from external sources as well. It may also have been created as a practical commercial for another company to buy the IP from EA.
  1. If they had a trailer ready to go, why was it being held back?
A trailer doesn't take as long to put together as you might think. If they had anything accomplished over the last year since DA: Failguard came out (as well as over the last six years of ME5 development), this shouldn't have been hard to put together.
  1. If it wasn't a deliberate leak they'd be hitting everyone showing it with DMCAs.
It most certainly was a deliberate leak. The question is, who did it and why? I suspect, its sanctioned as a way to generate interest in selling off the IP. If it was a former BioWare employee, it's effectively to try and get people to create petitions, etc. to get their jobs back or to get another company to buy the IP.
  1. Prominent influencer insider immediately puts out a video that seems too detailed to have been made in the moment. Too well structured, doesn't seem like something you slap together in a day.
I don't know. That guy's work is generally pretty good given his normal content. Also, if he is telling the truth, that may have been faster and more off the cuff to do than we think. He may have even known about the closing of BioWare a bit before the public did.
  1. NDAs aren't just nullified automatically when they announce that they are canceling a game.
No, they aren't. That said, it doesn't hurt EA for this to be out there. Sure, they can issue copyright strikes and all of that, but NDA's take a lot of money and time to really enforce and again, it's more of a benefit to EA to have this out there rather than not. Hell, EA could have ordered the leak to gauge public interest in the game. The real problem is not the trailer's content, but the lack of confidence people have in the BioWare studio at this point. It's done nothing but fuck up and fail since 2017. Veilguard was basically brand suicide. If what Dantics said about the trailer content is accurate, I'd love to see the game completed along that path. However, I have little confidence that BioWare could deliver that game without politics and the bullshit that made Dragon Age Failguard so awful or Andromeda so bland. When you involve SBI, Anita Sarkesian or anyone like that, your game is probably going to fail.
  1. EA certainly wouldn't have given the A-OK in advance to spill the beans on a cancelled project just as they announce the cancellation.
I'm not so sure. As I said, it may be a way to gauge interest in the project, which they could easily hand off to another studio or sell off to another company. It could easily be that the leak happened from a BioWare employee, and finding out after they were fired who did it, probably isn't worth the effort and it doesn't hurt them all that much for it to be out there. It's still questionable as to whether or not the leak is even legitimate.
The NDA thing has been bugging me the most, if they were silent for a few weeks at least then I'd find it plausible that the NDAs were lifted by then. But even that would be sus. Star Wars 1313 NDAs were in effect for years.

I think it's a bit of both those last two things.

That's where I have to push back. I think it is a giant loss of face to EA, at least in the gaming sphere, because it suggests that the game is far more ahead in development as previously thought, plus they seemingly going in the right direction.

I don't think you show a game trailer to investors, they wouldn't even know what they are looking at, so I doubt that was the original intention behind the trailer.

Anonymous employee leaking the trailer is one thing. But Dantics openly talking about everything is another. He either has really good lawyers, or got the green light from EA.
