Update: 2/5/2013

http://wccftech.com/nvidia-geforce-titan-features-6-gb-memory-review-samples-shipped/

The GeForce Titan comes in late February and would essentially be a full fledge Tesla K20X designed for consumer market. Based on the much powerful GK110 architecture, the GPU would feature 2688 cuda cores and a huge 6 GB GDDR5 memory running across a 384-bit interface and all of which would be useable unlike that on Dual chip cards. The price tag for the GeForce Titan would be kept at $899 US but with high price comes premium performance. The GeForce Titan is said rumored to outperform even the fastest GeForce GTX 690 with its single GK110 core, sounds impossible but its going to happen and we only got a few days left to check that out.
And since the GeForce Titan is not part of the GeForce 700 series which is presumably delayed to Q4 2013, we would see further cut down variants of the GK110 based GPUs in summer 2013 at lower price points. Another interesting thing pointed out is that the GeForce Titan would maintain a TDP of 235W which is slightly higher than the GK104 based GTX 680 but lower than the GF-110 GTX 580, shows how much power efficient the Kepler architecture is.

Nvidia releasing the "Titan" to battle for the fate of PC gaming???:

http://www.techpowerup.com/179750/It-s-Sony-Not-AMD-in-GeForce-Titan-s-Crosshair.html

When we first heard of NVIDIA launching its GK110-based consumer graphics card by as early as February, it took us by surprise. Intimidating naming (GeForce Titan 780?) aside, the graphics card is hoping to better NVIDIA's current-generation flagship, the dual-GPU GeForce GTX 690, in a single-GPU package, but does the graphics card market really need NVIDIA to launch its card at the moment? Perhaps not, but the answer lies not with AMD and competition in the graphics card market, but Sony, and competition between PC and console platforms.

TechpowerUp Posts Titan Performance Numbers:

Updated 1/30/2013:

http://wccftech.com/nvidia-geforce-titan-gtx-780-performance-surpasses-gtx-690/

New details of the GeForce Titan have been revealed by RedQuasar forums. The very first information is that the GeForce Titan is not a GeForce 700 series product as some sites earlier speculated that it could be the GTX 780, a part of the Kepler refresh. However according to the leaked info, that is to be deemed false. The new card would just be known as GeForce Titan. The information suggests that the actual GeForce 700 series cards won’t be out till June 2013 giving AMD an headstart with their Sea Islands HD 8000 lineup in Q2 2013.

----------------------------------

However the most interesting thing about the leak is this next piece of information which suggests that the Titan would end up with the performance level surpassing the dual core GeForce GTX 690. We know this much that any GPU featuring the GK110 would indeed be faster than the GTX 680 but better performance than the GTX 690 (if true) is seriously mind-boggling. In another leak, PHK from Expreview has leaked details showing that GeForce Titan has a PCB similar to GTX 680 but with a beefed up memory area which can confirm 6 GB 384-bit on the card itself and tells that the card has been listed in Hong Kong with arrival slated at then end of February.

---------------------------------------------
1/21/2013:

When NVIDIA released the GeForce GTX 680 in March 2012 it was clear that the new flagship was not based on the full version of the GPU Kepler (GK110). Instead, a cut-down version (GK104) to hold down the manufacturing costs. Now, almost a year later, full-fledged Kepler be heading to a Geforce in consumer class.
-----------------------
According SweClockers sources the launch of the GeForce Titanium to resemble that of the GeForce GTX 690th Partner Manufacturers must follow Nvidia's reference design to the letter and can not even put their own stickers on graphics cards. The performance is estimated at about 85 percent of a Geforce GTX 690 .

The same sources claim that Geforce Titanium released in late February and has a suggested retail price of 899 USD.

Anymore naysayers left?

This will be the new 8800 ULTRA.

I never even heard of it before, but why release it now with lower performance than that of a GTX 690?

The GTX 680 refresh, i.e. GTX 780, will only be about 15-20% faster. Which is still ~70% slower than the GTX 690.
On the other hand the single gpu "Titan" will possibility be within 15% of the GTX 690. Impressive.

690 is dual-GPU. A performance card SLI always beat the highend part of a certain generation. 560 Ti SLI > 580, 460 SLI > 480, 260 SLI > 280 etc.

For that price it better reflect the performance....wowsa thats 1 beast if true.

Top of the line cards' prices never reflect the performance. You always pay a premium.

Well problem with Nvidia is the 680 GTX still cost more then a 7970 GE, but is slower in performance.

But yea if they only release like 20k of these, there will be a huge premium!

Cant wait to see [H] do a review of this monster

Interesting. I'm not sure I believe 85% of the 690 performance.

Like the Sennheiser Orpheus. The rich get to play with some truly next-gen stuff for a pretty penny. Don't worry folks, it won't be too long before this beast will be supplanted. That's the good thing about computing technology. Whereas the Sennheiser Orpheus still reign on top, and they haven't been made for YEARS. :)

This will be the new 8800GTX.

It's highly unlikely we will ever see a shocker like the 8800GTX again. There weren't any dual-GPU 7900GTX cards, but we do know that a single 8800GTX was anywhere from 10% to 50% faster than 7900GTX in SLI. Here we talk about how much slower a GTX 780 would be than a GTX 690. Not impressive.

They might do a tween stage like the 300s. Would catch them up to AMDs numbering. 800s vs 8000s, etc. :D

Though 770s seem like a good number...

Figured since it was in between 680 and 690 performance...685 made sense lol

7950GX2 was 2 7900 GT's or GTS if I recall correctly.

And 15% slower than basically 2 GTX 680s isn't impressive? Unless you mean compared to the 8800GTX vs 7900GTX SLI....you are on some crazy shit sir.

The thing that got me was 732mhz on the core. This card SCREAMS watercooling

$500 per card is already a ripoff price when it's new, and now we are seeing them build off that price as if they live in a world were older hardware doesn't depreciate in value as it ages.

As in, "This card is X% faster than something we sold for $500 a year ago, therefor this card is going to sell for $899".

If it's only 85% the performance of a GTX690, then one could simply buy two GTX680s for about the same price (presumably cheaper once the new card is released) and get much better performance or go with 2x 670 or even 2x 660ti for MUCH cheaper and likely end up with equivalent performance.

They are also leaving the door open for AMD to beat them on price - all without AMD having to sell cards that are even priced particularly cheap - doesn't take much to be cheaper than $899...

They'll sell them at $899 if it's limited production run, because they will sell at that price. They don't care if you think it's fair, they care about "will we move the volume we need at this price point". It's economics, they're a business.

At $900 they'll sell like five of these.

And a vendor can't even put its brand on the card? WTF?

overpriced for sure. But they will sell out.

I bet we will see some 4 way systems popup on various forums.

I'm sure it will, but I don't personally see what the point would be since it isn't even purported to beat their current high-end offering.

I definitely made no claims about it being "fair" or not. Capitalism isn't fair. I also don't see an $899 boutique card becoming the next 8800GTX like many in this thread have claimed. As a "business" that is concerned with "economics" they would know that low-volume niche products tend to not form a large percentage of profits...

I wish i had money to burn on such a card because performance wise 85% of 690 without multi GPU troubles is amazing.

Too much money for a locked card.

I hope AMD doesn't lock their next generation 28nm card.

Nothing points to this card being called the GTX 780. The 780 gpu will be a refresh of the GK104 part.
The GK110 will be a separate part in the line up. That's why it's codenamed Titan.

We all know buying two cards to match one card doesn't make sense financially and it limits your upgrade path.
I rather buy one GK110 and SLI later.

Call me a naysayer then. Why would nvidia release this card at all? Unless it's just to release a small number of loss making cards to have the single GPU performance crown that they can use in marketing. These would cost a lot of money to produce because of the huge die size, 550mm2.

And as for the consumer, who would buy one? I can't see them running at anywhere near that 85% of the performance of the 690 figure. You might get that performance if you run at 680 clock speeds, but, that would break the 300W TDP. Also, it will have reduced shaders and have 1 smx cluster disabled.

It just doesn't make sense as a consumer card, for the marginal gains in gaming performance.

Maybe they will release it, but, from a gaming point of a view, it would be an un-informed person who buys it.

Normally I would say get the best single card you can afford, but in this caseI would agree with GotNoRice, two 680's would be a much better buy. Cheaper, quieter, cooler and way better performance.

I think they will release it to make money.

They made money with their weak/locked GTX 600 series cards so if they are making money that is all that matter.

I'd rather have a well made unlocked video card that MSI is allowed to tweak to its limits.

Eh, it's going to be a niche card, like when they sell the ROG Ares card where it ends up being near $1K for a single GPU card. It's gonna be expensive.

More CUDA is nice, but almost everything is migrating to OpenCL these days. Just has more potential, and not limited to just Nvidia cards.

I'm sure it will, but I don't personally see what the point would be since it isn't even purported to beat their current high-end offering.
The GTX690 is a $1000 part, yes?

If they release this "Titan" card at 85% of the performance, but as a single card, at $899, they will definitely sell them. Especially if they support 4-way SLI, there will be people who buy four just to set WRs.

Silly? Yes. But it depends on how "limited production" this ends up being. ASUS always sells out the MARS and ARES cards and those are hugely overpriced.

Didn't the 8800 Ultra's go for something ridiculous back in 08? I thought seeing those in the $700-$800 range. This doesn't surprise me though.

Not impressed, it looks like Nvidia couldn't get the speed of the core up after all. Still nice to see them get it out finally (appart from their Tesla? prodcut).

Wonder what kind of cooler this thing will have?

I actually bought an 8800 gtx ultra back in the day for 800 bucks. Looking back it was the dumbest investment ever. Sure it was fast, but it wasn't that fast. Alot of games at that time still ran slow on it with limited eye candy, like STKOR. And it was hot as hell. Eventually it smoked one day and never worked again. Made me realize no matter how badass a card is at the time, it becomes lacking real fast. Farcry 3 and Hitman runs slow on my 680 GTX sometimes.

So nowadays, I just buy used cards that have a nice discount cause I know i'll need new shit real soon anyways.

Exactly... and they will indeed move the volume they want to at that pricing even. I'm drooling already....
