New Egg Concern

I have been a big fan of New Egg since I built my first computer in 2001. Lately, I have concerns on the way they charge multiple shipping charges for multiple items. I can go to ZipZoomFly and buy all the same components for all the same prices and save $30 on shipping and get FedEx 2-day. Has anyone else noticed this?

thats just the way newegg runs things and thats the way its been for as long as i can recall

im sure it works better for newegg otherwise theyd do something else

and it can be beneficial to the customer at times as well

i got my chaintech vnf3-250 from zzf for 70 shipped when it woulda be like 79 shipped from the egg. but it can happen vice versa too.

You can always try their new site "Chiefvalue".

I always buy some stuff from the egg and some from zzf, they are both good so it's only price that sets em apart.

I've been looking at other venders as of late. Newegg stopped free shipping, then they started upping their prices. They aren't as competitive as they used to be, so I've been using companies like jab-tech and zzf.

I noticed this as well. Instead of using Newegg to find a Socket 940 board, I went to a local computer store that I never new exisited and bought one for cheaper than anything that NewEgg had.

Their AMD motherboard selection has gone down. Dissapointed.

What really concerns me is the new interface sucks a$$!

ZipZoomFly may now be my favorite vendor..........and no it's not just because of one thing. So, Chiefvalue is good then?

Ive been shopping at ZZF as well. Even if newegg does include "free" shipping, its just added into the price already.

For my most recent A64 build, I used a combination of ZZF and NE, I checked all the SHIPPED prices and went with whatever is cheaper. Then I got a Maxtor HDD at BestBuy because I was there and didn't have a HDD yet, and had a nice sata.
But for the 8 or so pieces I purchased online, 4 were from Newegg and 4 were from ZZF.

Newegg - Mobo, DVD/RW, Keyboard, Mouse
ZZF - PSU, X800XL, Processor, WinXP Pro

Newegg recently started charging sales tax for items shipped to NJ. That tipped the scale in ZZF's favor for me.

i did the same thing project, i shopped around using newegg and zzf, to get the cheapest prices around. there were many things cheaper at zzf then at newegg and vice versa. where abouts in MA do you reside, cause im also from MA

I'm from MA too. For case stuff, which is really what jab-tech does, order from them. Their standard shipping is overnight cause we're so close, and their service is excellent. Same with zzf. Newegg is still good for keyboards and what not I've notices, but for fans and cooling and other modding stuff, go to jab-tech.

yea, im gonna start ordering from jabtech, cause itll get here faster. there are loads of MA guys here arent there.

Is chiefvalue a Newegg company?

The obvious conclusion through all this is, shop around, NE doesn't always have the 100% best deal.

I live on the coast, Dartmouth, New Bedford area. Too precise? 40 minutes from Cape Cod I suppose.

I haven't used jabtech yet, but I think that it's worth a little visit to see what they're all about.

im in the dead center of mass, and my rig is being a jerk to me, if i put a cd in the drive, even running at stock, with EVERYTHING at stock, LOCKUP! damn chaintech

Yeah, I have noticed this when the first time I ordered some from them and the first is also my last. I don't care how great their customer service is but they have been crossing the line of over charging. I have always order from zip, amazon, and even buy.com where people been criticize about it. I have never had any problem with buy.com so it's still in my shopping list.

its pretty bad when you need 3 cables and the shipping is twice the amount of the cables...

to say the least I got them elsewhere

I've pretty much stopped using newegg unless nobody else has it. THe lsit of gripes with them jsut keeps growing and growing. Some the fault of their business practices, some just bad luck of their decisions to grow their business.

1) sales tax + shipping.

I live in NJ, getting whacked with the sales tax is one thing, but the fact that I ahve to put up with FedEx saver BS on top of it is too much. My shipping address is literally like 2 miles from their NJ warehouse. Fed Ex deliberately sits on packages a minimum of 3 days if not longer. Since Newegg often takes over 36 hours to ship, this pretty much guarantees that everything from newegg takes 7 days to get to me from 2 miles away. I just can't afford the time.

2) cancelled orders.

I've been getting a lot more orders where newegg just sends out atuomated emails for 48 hours and instead of a tracking number, I get a cancelled order. The biggest reason for this is that I've ordered multiple low margin items from them that all ship from different warehouses and I guess that makes shipping cost them money. Biggest trigger of this is buying an optical drive and using checking the box for their freebie media with purchase. Msot of the drives seem to be in NJ, but all the free media seems to be in CA.

3) increased prices.
they just are not the best price for the service anymore BEFORE shipping and tax.

4) increased shipping.
You are already giving me inferior shipping from 2 miles away, and you jack up the prices.

5) incorrect orders.
been getting more mis-packed orders from several vendors lately, not jsut newegg. However, the other guys aren't pissing me off with 1-4 above. Not so mucha unique problem as a place they could be offering some service to make up for other things, but aren't.

6)slower turn around times on CS issues.
The word is out on newegg I guess, and the volume is meaning less CS quality. GRanted it is still pretty good, just not the best anymore.

When a great online vendor starts shipping you a printed catalog, I think it pretty much means the days of being good are over. newegg has jumped the shark as far as I can tell. Which is just par for the course. Online company gets big by providing good service and value, get a name, go to crap, repeat.

Since when did bitching about Newegg equate to Video Cards? Or am I in the wrong forum?

A good question, but I'm going to chime in....heh.
It just goes to show that nobody can please everybody. I have always had good experience with NE, and I continue to do so. No probs here, but, then again, I never ordered an optical drive from them.

"its pretty bad when you need 3 cables and the shipping is twice the amount of the cables..."

Or when you need AS5 and the shipping is more than the item.

Anyway, sort of a false alarm on the interface, you can still "Shop All Categories" which I like to do and have gotten used to over the years. Still the price increases is crazy as well as the bizarre prices ($24.57 for part, $3.86 for shipping, WTF!) Oh, and please no one suggest they open a warehouse in Florida..............they got the whole east coast covered from New Jersey and other places........right? ;)

ive been there. i hate how shipping for one cable is like 5 bucks, and the cables like 4. i dont like the new layout either, im a shop by category guy too, and i was appauled by the lack of it. damn newegg! ill get you back, by shopping at jabtech! and zzf!

If it ain't broke, don't fix it. I don't see any benefit, its only different, as far as I see, and annoying since I was used to the old style.

Just another rant ive ordered there twice in my time and have spent over $2000 and last time I oredered I got a few things damaged and I dont like the idea of having to pay for something and paying oto have it shipped then open the box and find out that I can use it because its damaged then you call newegg and they want you to pay the shipping back plus it takes time to get a good product back when.

Then come to find out when I get a replced product I its been used and taped up and has crackes all over it and this was suppose to be a retail package?

On an aside, MANY times when this happens it is due to the power supply starting to fail. If you have access to another known-good power supply you should try swapping them out to determine if spinning up the CD and the associated 12V draw is too much for your current unit, causing voltage to the rest of the system to sag and hang the system.

i fixed that issue with the older nvidia ide driver. and i fixed my low video benchy scores with an older bios the 7/29. so im back up to perfect with 60k in aquamark while things were running in the background. im a happy camper!

I've never had any issues with NE. I also still continue to find no place cheaper on many items. They just had that amazing shipping deal (all shipping was only 99 cents) on EVERYTHING, you cant get better shipping than that, and I ordered 4 cases during that time for less than $70 including shipping.

Shop around, there's no reason anyway to limit yourself to buying from one place, doing so is not very smart on your side. I'll continue to find the best prices for me, even if it takes ordering from 4 different places for 4 different items.

On a side note, I hate the new layout for NE.

I used to shop exclusively at newegg.. but one time I wanted to order a bunch of parts... the shipping was outrageous... I hate being nickel and dimed to death. I go to other sites... if newegg doesn't have free or $1 shipping on specific items.

They have to charge sales tax to N.J. because they now have a phyiscal pressance in the state being as how they recently opened a huge wharehouse there.
For me its been great to have them in N.J. I pay for super saver shipping and I recieve anything they send from thier N.J. site in just two days because I live in N.Y.

my only concern with jabtech is I ordered some parts from them (my first time/only time) had them UPS 2nd day shipped and they had shipped it to the wrong address. I can't say I wouldn't buy from them again, but my first buying experience wasn't the best. Everyones human, mistakes happen.

Not to keep slamming NE or anything, but my brother just ordered some stuff and 3 round cables and only received the stuff and 2 round cables. I'm starting to believe the thing people keep saying about them screwing up orders lately. I've actually not had problems yet, but I try to find the best price at reputatable online vendors anyway.

Looks like Directron and ZZF for me from now on. I too notice that the eggsters have roving price fluctuations. They put free shipping (or .99c) on items that are raised slighly to offset the loss.

I just recently purchased two diamond max 10 HDDs and one raid controller. I live in San Francisco. When I went to check up on my order status online, I saw that Newegg had already processed it and it was in a storage facility in Oakland. Oakland is right across from San Francisco. Then, I read that it was expected to arrive on Monday (I am writing it on Thursday. ) I know there is no mail on Sunday, but why can't they get it over here by at least Saturday? It's not the longest journey in the world.
(This is now ^ ^)
I used Newegg one other time to order a NEC 3520A burner. At that moment, I purchased it with free shipping (I think) and it arrived a day early.

I hope my HDDs will arrive also a day early (Saturday.) Otherwise I will be somewhat disappointed with Newegg.

I shop newegg when I'm looking for refurb parts. Because of NewEgg's return policy, most of the refurbs are just returns anyways. Most of the stuff I buy, if its defective, it still has the manufactures warranty anyways.

Most recent order was a ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe for $62 off normal price, shipped; and a Leadtek Geforce 6600 for $46 off. Order totaled $193 shipped versus $301 shipped for new.

Did I mention that most/all refurbs are $1 shipping?

It won't, because FED Ex does not deliever stuff that is shipped super saver on Sat..

I was a total newegg fanatic up until about 1 year ago. Back then their prices were still the best around but it started with small things like getting a mobo sold as brand new that clearly was NOT new (fingerprints all over it, seal broken, even traces of AS around the socket). Then their prices went up. Big time. I was shopping for a HS and Newegg wanted $60, whereas i can find it elsewhere for $40. Same with fans, mobos, videocards, cases, PSUs etc. On top of that, their shipping charges are enormous for smaller items like coolers, fans and so on.

Newegg went from top of the crop to second choice in less than a year. Sad since i really like them.
