New Coolermaster Case : Centurion 590

it looks just like a 690 under the plastic...
That's because it is. Aside from the front drive mounting system(since the 9x5.25" bay layout is different from the 690's), the internal chassis is the same one as the 690.
Sorry quick noob question (i am building a pc for the first time so don't know much lol)...

I have this case and there is an airflow vent at the bottom of the case where the PSU goes. Am i ment to place the main PSU fan facing it towards the ground or am i ment to direct the fan facing up? Also is the PSU fan taking in air or blowing out

sorry am a total noob :D

You're meant to point the fan towards the vent. The PSU fan is an intake, and since cool air falls, taking in fresh air from underneath the case will provide the best source of air for the PSU.

Can we have a moratorium on the hot air rising/cool air sinking mentions when it comes to case designs?

In this situation, cool air falling should have almost no effect. The PSU will be sucking outside air. The rising or "falling" of hot or cool air shouldn't really matter much unless you're debating flipping the case upside down, in which case sucking in ambient air at an altitude of 20" higher than if you ran the case right-side-up shouldn't amount to a hill of beans, ambient temperature wise.

If hot air rising through your case is having an effect, you need better flow in your case.

When the psu is mounted above the cpu and mobo (like most cases) then the air the psu fan takes in is hotter than if it was allowed to circulate outside air like this bottom mount. Aside from aesthetics this is the only benefit I see with bottom mounting.

I do agree that ambient (external) air intake for a PSU is better than case air intake.

But if you're worried about hot air from your cpu compromising the cooling of a top-mount PSU (a situation where the hot air rising is oft mentioned), then you need a better exhaust fan on the back of your case, IMO...

And, with this case, I can't figure how hot air rising makes a difference in any way, shape or form, unless maybe you're considering running a radiator up top whose fans are exhausting, maybe, but...

I guess I better get back on topic and say that I love the looks of these cases. I have two CM 330's and they're fantastic - paid $25 for the one without psu and $45 for the one with psu. Looks like the 590 has better cable routing possibilities and I love the moveable power switch/USB panel. I think I can live without reset as I only hit that button about 4 times a year in normal operation. If I really wanted one, it would be an easy task to install one.

The only thing I hated about the 690 is the top mounted usb. I don't need anything sticking outta the top of my case. I need to stack books and stuff on it, hehehe.

I never said it made a significant difference, but every little bit helps. The OP asked what the best solution would be, and in theory it would be best to have the PSU drawing in fresh air from below the case, regardless of how minimal the benefits actually are. You're right that the difference in altitude won't affect temps by much, but if you can do it, you may as well, right?

Make sure if you are putting the case on the floor, make sure you have a filter on the vents, especially hardwood floors or tile. Don't want a crap load of dust in your PSU..

This probably doesn't need to be said, but... don't even thinking about putting the case on carpet unless you rig up some 2x2s for it to sit on or something.

D'oh! This sounds like a problem for me then.

I am planning to put the case on the carpet floor as i don't have any other space. Only thing is there does not seem to be much room between the carpet and bottom of the case, so i don't know how the fan will take in air.

Any ideas as to what i can do to either raise the case or something?

@lester: what are 2x2's?

But topic wise the case looks simple and net yet not boring! The only case i would get over it is the cosmos s but thats expensive!

I have to check if the stock feet on the case can unscrew, I'd get wheel mounts if they do. I don't know why the 690 is more popular than this one, hopefully in time it will get more exposure. Its a solid case in all aspects.

One thing might be that the pictures show the case with extravagant blue led fans all the way up the front, which isn't even logical since you need to use those 5.25'' bays..it looks awesome without any led's on.

veratek what cooler are you using with this case? i want a 120mm cooler but then i think i'll have to remove the side fan on the case which i want to keep on:(

do you recommend a filter for the bottom where the psu fan will be?

I am also very interested in this case. Like the person above me, I also have a carpet floor, but it seems that someone is working on a solution for us. Hooray! :)
I have a few questions about this beauty.
First of all, extra fans. Is it needed to get some extra 120mm fans, or do the supplied fans produce enough cool air for a e8400 processor and a 8800GTX videocard? (Extra information about the system can be provided)

Extra fans shouldn't be that much of a problem, since the case is quite cheap. I am from europe (The Netherlands to be precise) and it costs 48,95 euro's.
On the site I couldn't find how many fans were being shipped with the product, so I asked them. They replied, saying it came with 1 80x80mm fan! Isn't that strange? Everyone and every review seems to state that it comes with 2 120x120mm fans (with shiny blue leds)
If this is the case, I suppose it is worth it to buy some extra fans. How many and of which quality, is too complicated for me. I've found 2 fans that seem appropriate, I'll supply a link.

Number 1, a Cooler Master Sleeve bearing without leds for 6,95 from the site where I am getting my new rig from.
Number two, an Antec Tricool with blue leds costing 13,95 at the same website.
They have a few other models with blue leds, but they are all out of stock.
I could really use some advice on this matter.

The second question is one of comparing. At first, I was planning on buying the much more expensive (111,95) Antec P182. I would like to know if these cases are in any way comparable, or if it is really blown away by the P182. I am looking for an alternative, because the P182 is out of stock in the store I am getting my rig from, which has the cheapest one. A different store would be around 15 euro's more expensive. Before I am willing to pay that, I would like to know how it compares to this beauty.

The third question is one of luxury. What are the little extra's you recommend on putting into the case? Partly the same as question 1, because that is about the fans. But what other things would you put in, like a shiny multi fan speed controller, or something like that.

Thanks in advance.

Edit: All prices named are in euro's, but be free to link to products from non-euro country's.

Fans are cheap enough that you might as well get them anyways, especially with a high power proc/vidcard such as yours.

I suppose so, any chance you could give me some help on which ones to pick, or one of my other questions? :)

i love this case.
i just painted mine black...er. haha. the inside, i mean.

going to have to redo the top coat though, the two different blacks didn't mix well.

mmm... black case. black zalman mfc, black TRUE (when i can get one), black 750i ftw, black gx2. now to find some decent black ram.
does anyone make a black wireless card?

oh, and for whoever asked, the case feet are held on by regular case screws.

Along with the two stock 120mm fans, there are 4x 120mm s-flex 1600rpm fans connected to a fan controller. I'm still using the stock intel cpu cooler. The airflow is top notch in these cases.

If the case is going to be on a carpeted surface, maybe a very thin layer of filtering wouldn't be a bad idea, like stretching some mesh or pantyhose it. Actually the top is where I think it could use a filter, the mesh holes are big openings for bits of debris to fall in.

Also, like someone said the feet are removable so you can find bigger replacements to raise it higher off the ground.

Pick up some Yate Loons Medium from Petras Tech Shop or Jab Tech.. 4/$20

I've got a question, how is this case VS the CM 690? When you don't need the extra fan options, would the 690 be a better pick?

This and the 690 use the exact same chassis. Which one is a better pick depends on what you want out of it. The 590 has more 5.25" bays, better cooling, and front expansion ports, as well as being slightly less bulky than the 690. The 690 is more of a standard mid-tower, and has an HD mounting system that's a bit better than the 590's. The other differences are just aesthetic.

Personally I prefer the 590, but they're both great cases.

does anyone know if a xigmatek s1283 will fit? I'm guessing yes, because it fits in the 690.

the xigmatek will fit with or without the case side fan installed?

Also to those who have it which way have you got your PSU fan facing downwards towards floor or upwards? I have noticed that if i place it downwards the grill covers up quite a bit of the fan so would it be better to place the PSU fan facing skywards (inside the case)?

I left my psu with the fan facing downward to the floor. Works fine, never gets hot, and I can feel the air current underneath the case. This way the case works as designed to, and leaves your ps out of the equation. Lots of people flip them though, but I always felt it would disturb some internal parts of the unit, just prefer to leave it right side up.

I'm pretty sure the side panel fan would have to go for the xigmatek to fit.

Does anyone know if it interferes with the top fan too? I just finished putting 2 fans on top and 2 on the side..if it does I might look for a low profile cooler :( i really like having maximized airflow.

Well, in my backup rig I know that my Tuniq Tower is too tall to use the upper side fan but it doesn't interfere with any of the top ones. I'll post pics here once I get my camera back from my mum.
