Didnt mean to imply that they would drop their PS3 for a xbox, and it is bout 90% to late, but from seeing posts on here and my friends, a lot of people it seems are in my position. Which is you have a 360 and have no strong desire for a PS3 except you want a blu ray player, and they are the best bang for buck Blu ray player considering you get a PS3 too. So i meant if xbox had added one (which you are right, maybe up cost and idk how it would work) but they would steal me away from getting a PS3, and my friends too.
 
i really think they wanted to save that for the next xbox. drives more incentive to upgrade for xbox owners. also they could make an add-on blueray player, like they did with the hd-dvd add-on.
 
So, I work at a best buy. We have demo's of these things.

We put one out the day they came in.

20m later, it overheated, died, and would not turn back on after sitting for an hour.

Yay.

It's replacement has lasted a solid day so far!

Lol i dont want to hear that. Either that will be a trend and i'll have to wait and see if more do that and i wont buy it, or i'll have to wait and see if your stores experience was just a bad xbox slim...thanks :/

hahahahahhahahahahaha oh man that made me laugh. Was just talking today about how geek squads "we setup your new laptop!" is just them typing in your name then charging you 100 bucks lol.

Whatever. I work in the mobile section of the store. It's hella different. There is a bit more value in the Canadian stores than the US ones in the geek squad, and it's good for dumb people who don't have geeks to take care of them.

But seriously, this was just disappointing. Our other 360 ran in that same lock box (Ventilated. No short amount of openings for air... ) for a year and 8 months and didn't once fail.

Don't be offended that bestbuy sucks man i worked there as a tech in my youth long before the geek squad days a paycheck is a paycheck but they still blow when it comes to pc repair. since it vents from the top now did it not occur to them that the air outlets arent optimal for the new design?

You do realise that sometimes you can just get a dodgy bit of hardware right? I've had enterprise level gear fail on me within days... and we're talking about stuff that's designed for reliability, and costing well into the 5 figures.

Now if you get more than a couple go on you, that's another story. :D

Thats what im hoping his experience with the new 360 slim is. Hardware mass produced on the level of the Xbox 360's (no matter the type) in general has to have at least some failures, so the chances of a store putting a sh*t unit on the floor and it failing somewhere in America have to be high.

One thing that pisses me off, is people who generalize like that. Not every best buy is like that, and certainly not mine. Just saying, Give them some credit before you hang them out to dry. Cause my coworkers rock. And we're the number one store in Canada for a reason (And I don't mean just in rev dollars. ) I've worked Geek Squad, Customer Service and Now mobile, I've dealt with every type of good customer and every type of bad customer there is around. I also know that a lot of customer have an over entitlement problem. Just some food for thought ;)

But seriously, I'm hoping it's just a one off, but the first out of the box being bad is scary.

Dude eh, I meant the bestbuy in america haha eh. Not sure if you have been to the u.s or not eh. But customer service is dead in this country. I saw it at compusa, then circuit city and now bestbuy is following in those two companies footsteps eh. I am sure the service in bb at canada is much better here eh.

I'm sure there are atleast a few out there with good service. I know the store down the road from me is pretty well unloved by customers. ;)

Not in this country, customer service is dead in united states eh. Then again once we absorb canada the bad cs will spread up north too eh.
 
xbox is never going to get a blu-ray drive........the advent of a sub $150 player prety much sealed that deal.

Was it in one of those air-tight acrylic boxes ... amazing cooling on those things.:p

Edit: Best buy is one of only a few places to buy games, consoles, etc. Personally I try to avoid BB as much as possible, but here in the great white north we have no where else to go.
 
Someone told me the XBOX 360 (not slim) was as quiet as the PS3 slim. Bull fucking shit. I have the 360 2 ft away from me, in my room on my Jerker Desk and that shit is way louder than the PS3, especially when loading disc. I think I am going to purchase the XBOX360 Slim.

I got my 1st xbox elite in 2007 and it had croaked by 2009 dispite being in a climate controlled environment. The kids xbox was gotten around the same time and it was dead by 2009 as well.......sent both in for repair (to have as a backup plan) and got 2 jasper arcades instead.

so far the jaspers have been good
 
yeah, the 360 is a loud machine. It's not too bad at idle (or running a game from the HDD), but when you put a disc in the there it's annoyingly loud.

I don't believe the new ones are much better either, or so I've heard.

i cannot hear my jasper even when it loads disks nor can i hear my PS3 other than the loud poping it makes as the plastic heats up lol and cools down. The kids unit sounds like a jet engine when loading disks though......
 
The person who told you may have been right... but what most people don't know is that MS used three different brands of fan for the 360 (original one), and they vary MASSIVELY in noise levels.
 
Every game store was sold out I called for the new 360, so i just went and pre-ordered it and traded it all my old crap i got $199 credit so it worked out good esp considering my elite just broke and i opened it up this weekend fixed it and just traded it in for the new one ;) Now i have to wait til whenever the next shipment arrives.
 
I love how the heatsink is basically a stock intel heatsink. Preproduction boards even used the coolermaster version fan.

Yes, and from the manager that I talked to Friday when I was trading in my 1st gen Elite they WILL NOT take red ringed boxes and you have to have the basic set of accessories. I had to run home and find my A/V cables and also grabbed the battery holder for the controller I turned in.

You need the Xbox, A/V cables, 1 controller with matching battery holder, original faceplate, and the power brick and cord.

They test each unit for a few minutes and then they take it. The manager said that corporate has told them to crack down hard, especially because the new units are out, so if ANY piece is missing they must reject you.
 
Was able to find one of the new units today so I picked it up. Really happy with it so far. A big step up from my first gen 360.
 
yeah i still have my first gen 360 that's been sent in only twice. I'm mostly excited that I'll be able to use HDMI now, but too bad the Elite 250gb Slim doesn't come with an HDMI cable or even component which is bizarre imo.
 
When I bought mine at gamestop a clerk straight-up told another customer to buy an HDMI cable off the internet and not at a brick-and-mortar store. Thought that was interesting and cool that he didn't try to hawk a 70 dollar one with krypton infused gold wiring or whatever.
 
Yeah i've noticed that they're a lot cheaper on websites like newegg (where I bought mine).
 
hey has anyone heard about the 199 xbox 360 slim coming in fall?

I "might" hold off the upgrade to 299 slim if I can get the 199 slim.......
any difference besides smaller hard drive and?

my xbox red ringed right before i turned it in. i just opened it up, re did the thermal paste and then did the overheat trick (after you redo the thermal paste you put the motherbaord in the case but dont close the case. you turn it on till the 3 rings turn into 2 and then let it stay on for 1 minute. after it cools, it works again 90% of the time). as longs as it works when they test it, it doesn't matter if it dies the next day! lol

This new unit is soo nice my son has a elite Jasper we got him at Xmas and this new unit is dead quite compared to his we were very shocked at the difference
