Network pics thread

I was looking for visio shapres and found a web site called ratemynetworkdiagram.com and decided it was the most retarded thing ever.

But then I saw this picture and got moist:

I don't know why but this picture is beautiful. It's like ... perfect.

That pic is odd, I can see the patches but where are the switches?

On the second rack to the right. You can see amber lights. The switches look white or gray.

I see them now, the cables go under the raised floor and out. Its a very very good job.

There are four racks in that picture, with a patch rack paired up with an adjacent switch rack. The column between each pair is where the patch cables are located, so you don't have to go anywhere to pull or replace a cable. You just open up the cover on the column and pull out your cable.

Here is my network, finally put it into Visio. It is a lot of equipment for my apartment, :)

I am thinking of getting two Infiniband cards for the VMWare server and the File Server for iSCSI directly. Right now I just use Samba file sharing.

How much did you get that 2821? That can't be cheap heheh

Well It was only a little more than a 2811, and I like having a router with Gigabit ports. ;-) I would have been fine with a 2801, but whatever.

Recently added some cat5e to the garage and moved the gigE switch out there, and added an xbox to the tv.

Well if you ever want to rid yourself of that pesky 2821 I'll take it right off your hands

Nice! I have one of those on my desk here at work. for a 10/100 switch its great.

yea most of the time only one will ever be in use... but I have a major part in our clan's once- a year big lan ( 50-70 people ) so they will get fully used then I also have regular mini-lans at my house and its easier to distribute internet access with multiple switches

well just got in Three Dell 24 port Powerconnect 2224 Switches, too good of a deal for all 3 for $49.99, or $16.66 per switch to pass up. Sorry for the bad cellphone pics, my camera needs to be charged adn I cant find the charger

Finally got around to documenting my network design. Didn't have time to pretty it up. The physical layout is a lot simpler since most of my servers are virtual.

Certificate Authority? Radius Server? This is your home setup? What are you protecting? Or are you just learning?

Glad to see I'm not the only one running something this complex at home. It's great for testing and learning for work. I need to get another ESX box so I can enable HA/DRS for my VMWare ESX cluster. It's sad with a single server in it right now.

This will be my network setup within the next week. Right now its almost like the diagram but Server 2 and living room xbox aint there. Im waiting for my mom to goto the city to get the Server 2's mobo and cpu and also living room xbox's ethernet cable.

Anyone ever look at this thread and consider it a security risk for the posters?

I think that all the time. I remember a few times I've seen people actually put their SSID and WEP keys in their diagram. :)

But if you have no idea where the poster lives, or if they disclose no information, it's not as big of a deal. but ultimately, it's their choice.

Very nice setup. I've just purchased a Q6600 rig with 8GB RAM and plan on running ESX with a number of VM's similar to yours.

not really, cuz you would have to kno3 where they live to cause any harm, or there public ip address(s).. and most people who post in here are smart enoguh to not post personally identifiable info.....

If you're talking about hacking someones home setup, such as mine, they can give it a try. All the important stuff is not touchable by the internet. If you're talking about getting my house broken into and all my stuff stolen. They can try but thats what the alarm company along with the loaded guns around my house are for.

I actually had somebody try and break into my house a few weeks ago around 2:30 in the morning. He left my property in a hurry when I chambered a round and asked him if he wanted to come in.

LMAO, so I don't need to look at your sig to know you are US based :)

although watch out, you will get a court summons in the next few days, he will be suing you for pyscological trauma!

Best way to prevent that? Booby trap all your windows so if someone breaks in through one, they fall through a hole in a floor into an incinerator (like dr. evil's). And make all your doors windowless and either solid wood or sheet metal

LOL, he'll need to prove I pulled a gun on him. I was just asking him in for some coffee. ;)

Well I got a better pic ( found my camera charger finally )

The top Linksys WRT54G V8.2 is running stock firmware... for some odd reason DD-WRT was unreliable on it....

adn teh middle is my relialbe Linksys Cable Modem

And my Dell Powerconnect 2224 I posted earlier. ( I have 3 of them.. but the other two are only used during Lans. I also own a Linksys SR216 16 port switch

Finally migrated to ESX 3.5 this weekend. Streamlined our operations into only 3 VM servers.

I love those dell switches, Was running a 2324 up until recently *24port +2 gige* Never had a lick of trouble out of it. I upgraded to a Managed Dell 3024, lots of shiney buttons on the web interface to play with.

I got tired of getting flamed for posting datacenter pics. Everyone said how bad a security risk it was, etc. I had permissions from the CIO to post and the negative flames outweighed the thanks so I took them down.

Somewhat of a risk, but that is relative to each person. I didnt post a diagram or anything, just pictures of a datacenter. Sure someone could find out where I work but good luck getting into the datacenter :p Besides there isnt much we have that anyone wants.

How is it a risk? Someone knows you have shit worth stealing? Come on how many thieves check hard forum before robbing someone?

So it shows what kind of servers you have. Many of these data centers have multiple levels of physical security.

I've always though the same thing. As long as you're INSIDE, there's no threat.
