I'll get pics, the server hardware is not in yet, and we have to make a final decision on SAN and DR SAN this week. That combined with replacing our firewalls with ASA's and it is the biggest IT budget year I have seen :D

The gist of what we are doing - doing a full server / hardware / network / storage refresh on our datacenter and DR site. Going from 4 full racks into 5 servers. Servers are HP DL380 G7's with dual hex-core x5680 at 3.33GHz w/ 96GB ram running ESXi 4.1. Network will be all 10GbE converged on IP (either iSCSI or NFS) handled by 2 Nexus 5010's.

SAN is TBD, but finalists are Compellent, EMC, NetApp. 30TB primary site, 30TB replication site; primary site configured to handle 13k IOPS.
 
Holy crap man...lol that is tight. If we had that budget, Christmas would come early this year..:)

I really want to get some 7k's to replace our classic 6500, but it looks like we will only be getting a 6500E chassis so we can re-use our existing gig line cards.

The entire data center is going to live on the 5ks and fiber aggregation from the rest of the campus will go through the 6500. Our Cisco rep just told us that pretty soon they are going to drop full layer 3 Nexus 5k, but it sounds like new hardware, though I will hope for a software upgrade.

The other way around.. Vault in the meeting room. I can't go into a lot of details, but lets just say I think it's every IT guys dream to have an on site vault to put your backups and important shit

I haven't had alot of time when the two to really notice anything performance wise (good or bad for that matter), but what I can say is right now I'm happy with it. There is no qos turned on and voice quality is pretty good.

What I can say without a doubt is the cost is right for them. I priced out a 3750 stack and for the cost of it I can upgrade every switch in my network to gig. Currently our core and server switches are gig and the rest of our network is 10/100. I'm currently running 6248p (POE) as my core switch and the rest of the switches are 3548p. I'm using the gig uplink ports on the 3548s to connect back to the core.
 
How is the quality of the ShoreTel end-points? I might be a little biased, but I've found that most end-points outside of Cisco IP Phones feel very cheap and dinky. I've used some Avaya IP phones and they were disgusting. The handset feels like a piece of plastic crap and the buttons feel like garbage.

If by end-points you mean the phones themselves then they in my opinion are solid. They don't feel like they are going to fall apart. I might even go as saying I would feel comfortable knocking this phone off from my desk and not feeling guilty about it. Aside from the phone feeling solid, the speaker phone is incredibly clear, the handset is also incredibly clear and the buttons themselves seem solid as well.

That's cool. My understand was that the 5Ks would be strictly L2. Seemed kinda meh.

I can't take pics of our Nexus stuff, it's all in Chicago.:eek:

Dont hold your breath on that one. Same thing with the 7k supporting FCIP, they dont want to kill any product lines(MDS specifically). Dumping L3 on the 5k was a good move. I like the fact that I have both the 5k and the 7k doing completely different functions(standard FC duties for the 5k, 7k is all L3 :)

Whatever you do, don't replace a 6500 sup720 with a 7K at the core. After 4.2-2a code came out, the 7K (finally) satisfied my confidence for agg, but can't hold a candle to the stability of the 6K when you do more complex stuff.

The 5010 is not a bad machine, I just didn't like how long it was compared to the arista 7148 (it literally stuck out of our idataplex rack), the fact that you had to burn another RU to get 48 ports, and the lack of ISSU. I haven't touched these boxes since I left my old job so maybe they put ISSU in now.

the board that is still in it's static bag, looks like a intel server board ?
 
Was looking at that board, but Supermicro won that battle. Dedicated IPMI port and standard I/O layout helped.

I have one of these showing up next week. I don't even know what I'm going to do with it or why I bought it. :p Could be a fun project I guess?...maybe I'll dump it in colocation. They pop up every so often so keep looking. I may end up trying to score one for myself later on. But..... In the meantime Blue Fox's RSA box is currently at my house for testing. I'll probably end up buying it from him. Turns out it's a pretty sweet little inexpensive rig. and it's VERY quiet. (more quiet than my Dell Powerconnect switch) which is a plus for me. I may try to score a second one if i can find the right deal. Would definately come in handy as an Untangle or Astaro box. But the factory Server 2003, although they attempted to *hide* certain functions, are all there at first glance.

The Celestix box is more powerful and has more ports on it. But it's definately more power hungry and louder. And they tend to go for a little more money as a result. :(

Might want to contact Blue Fox to see if he can hook you up with one. He's got resources for everything it seems. I swing by his place every now and then. and yah, Ive got serious hardware envy :) although my Desktop PC is faster ;)
