My Far Cry 2 Quick Thoughts, AWESOME

the game is kinda draining and repetitive. I'm still going to finish it but I find my self wanting to take breaks in this game more then other games. Maybe theres to much driving, and the missions are all mostly the same. It seems like the game is missing something and could be better.

The only thing that would make me happier about the game is if the respawn on road checkpoints was lower. Yes, I just cleared that camp out, but I have to do it again because there were guys hiding in the mountains that immediately ran to the camp as soon as I killed everyone and drove off.

Add me to the list of wishing I hadn't purchased. Ubisoft just slap the Far Cry name on a turd.

Took me 2 hours to figure out it was total shit. I'm one of the lucky ones who didn't buy it. ;) If I like games I will run out and buy them the next day (See: Call of Duty 4) but this game was one of the worst I've ever played.

You're a fucking douche bag. Anyone, IMO, that supports hacked downloads shouldn't be allowed to post on these forums. Where the fuck is the integrity against piece of shit fuckers like this? Fuck you and the download torrrent you ripped this game off from.. IMO anyone posting admitting to piracy should be fucking banned from this forum.

edit: Seriously, when and where will people including forum modertators start standing up against piece of shit downloaders that have no intention of buying the product? See: call of duty 4? You are the reason such drastic measures are taken to prevent piracy.. I wish the moderators would ban your fucking alias from these foruns

Been playing and overall am unimpressed. So many annoying little things ruin the otherwise great idea for a game here. Reminds me of Assassins Creed where the world is well done and looks good, but the game itself isnt fun to play.

I spot a common thread, Ubisoft Montreal. Their last two games have been the ultimate in vacuous gameplay and pure boredom. Ubisoft Montreal should change their name to - Ad Nauseum!

It's not that bad of a game. I wasn't expecting it to outdo the original because that game was so unique and a lot of fun. FC2 seems more polished than FC1 and the combat and missions are a tad more realistic (combat was more fun in the first game). The game enviroment is more solid and grittier but appears lifeless (blame the dull color palette). What kills the game is repetition, but that can be good or bad depending how well you like the story, characters, missions, etc.

I think the game designers were looking to do more than just dish out another straightforward linear FPS. If you wanted another Far Cry then go play Crysis and Warhead.

You will not discuss, suggest, engage, or encourage any ILLEGAL ACTIVITIES. Links provided to locations that deal with any such activity are also expressly forbidden.

In theory that should apply to the people that are openly discussing piracy around here; however, there are a number of people that freely admit to 'copyright infringement' that post without restriction as well as posts direcly admitting to or justifying piracy that are still standing. I guess you're right; there's no point in bitching about it anymore.

yah just read up on the guidelines retard... But like egg said, I guess this fucking bullshit about members discussing and admitting to piracy is suddenly accepted now.. Where is Kyle so he can explain wtf is going on...

The next step to Farcry is already out and very popular. Too bad we know it as Crysis and not Farcry 2.

I forgot where I saw it but I can't take any credit for this: A growing number of people are referring to this game as "Assassin's Cry." As a fan of Assassin's Creed I chuckle at that because I agree with it for all the positive and negative reasons.

AC was a great game overall but damned repetitive when it came to the sidequests and such. In my case, I just had such a good time messing around and with the gameplay in general and the immersive world that the overall experience of that game for me was VERY positive despite the very tedious and repetitive nature of the sidequests.

That being said: I'm having the same problem here except this game is not keeping my interest like AC did. The problem I have with this game is this: It's a REALLY nice tech demo to me.

There's no incentive or point in doing anything in this game and here's why: The respawns are way too fast. If I take out a guard post and "scout it" as one of my accomplishments...there's no way in hell I should drive out of sight for a few seconds, turn around, come back and everyone is there again.

It would be a lot more believable and realistic if you wipe a place out maybe a half or full day in game time goes by before the "replacement/reinforcement" guards show up to replace the scrubs you wiped out. I can believe that.

Near the opening area of the game there's a mission you where hit some private estate. I went there first before triggering the relevant mission and wiped the place out and burned the area down very nicely. It wasn't very satisfying, to say the least, to come back there maybe half a day later in game time with the mission and everything was like I'd never been there to begin with.

Gorgeous production values, overall fun gameplay, but zero sense of worth and accomplishment. Even AC was better at overall sense of accomplishment than this IMO.

Bus stops help to break up the long stretches of driving and random attack cycles.

It's telling that I went right to immersing myself in Dead Space and enjoying that game a lot more and I haven't touched this game since the day it came out.

IMO if that poster does truly download a game to see if he likes it, and then goes out and buys the game if he does.

Then who are you to judge him? Stop acting all high and mighty. I bet everyone on here has downloaded a game at least once before in their lifetime, but they'll probably deny it. Considering there isn't a demo out for the game, then it almost serves the same purpose as going to a store and listening to a CD to see if you like it before buying it.

The comparison to Oblivion and Assassin's Creed are very apropos. There was a point in time in Oblivion where (even at a high level) I was like "to hell with it..." I was just bored. Now, that hit me after about 30 hours of game play. With FC2 (now having worked out most of the bugs...except the massive/inexplicable framerate losses at weird times) I am getting tired after about 3 hours.

It's more than just the glitches and bugs...it really has not been that engaging of a game for me. Not only that, but I spend a lot of time between action sequences, waiting for people, trying to find people, and driving around.

I suppose if it was trying to mimic the real world of mercenary Africa, then it succeeded...IRL, I suppose you spend more time waiting and traveling than runnin and gunnin.

Because it's easy fodder for the "Piracy is killing PC games and we're losing our ass so why even bother putting out a PC version of this game?" mindset we continue to see on a growing basis from game developers and publishers.

Let's get real here: We know that most people who even admit to doing this aren't just "taking the game for a test spin" before they buy it.

You are right that for every one guy that admits/brags about it out in the open there are plenty of others who do it as well and will never admit it.

Ya Im going to have to agree that this game has major problems... After playing alot of MMORPGs, I was looking forward to a game that didnt have so much running around. ie Pick up quest, run across the whole map, finish quest, pick up next quest, run back across the whole map... repeat repeat repeat. WTF with all the guard points respawning so quickly too?

Guess the joke is on me. :(

Yup.

I'm no MMO fan but even I'll tip my hat in favor of a number of MMO's vs. what's going on in this game.

If I pirate the game for PC but buy it for PS3 is that cool?

Well,it makes you a little less of a douchebag but still a douchebag nonetheless..
But Im sure if you thought you could successfully steal the PS3 version from your local B&M with no consequence, your question would be moot.

once I start accepting side missions (weapons dealer etc) how do I get back to the main mission?...I see mission icons all over the map but these side missions are getting tedious and I want to get back to the main mission (killing the Jackal)...is there a way of doing this or do I have to do a bunch of side quests as part of the main mission?

Marc had the best response I think.

I should've specified that I didn't mean just for Far Cry2. I rarely buy FPS for consoles.

You get the main big missions from town where you have to go to either of the headquarters to accept them. Every other place is usually a side mission.

There is no difference between pirating it then buying it on PC as for pirating it and get it for the PS3 even though it screws the statistics even more of course... The only thing is that you give Sony the 20$ extra the console version costs but I suspect Ubisoft gets about the same deal either way

so far the only fun part of this game I have found is the falmethrower and catching the fields on fire. This game is a BIG let down and really boring. I thought Crysis was a boring game and let down but this game makes Crysis seem like a BLAST :(

ah...ok...thanks...what about the Underground HQ missions?...do they only become unlocked later on in the game?

Yes. When the game decides you need more medicine(or you run out, whichever happens first) it'll tell you to find an underground location and get a mission from them.

Weird - despite the fact that the FC2 is reaaalllyyyy repetitive, respawn rates are ridiculous etc, I just checked statistics and I've already played it for 17 hours. And this game is friggin HUGE - a second map just became avaible for me to explore.

this game is so boring and a let down I hope it gets pirated out the ass..Just cause they made such a lame game. that had soo much potential and hype
