Mortal Shell 2

Just ran through the demo again, might have enjoyed it even more this time, 10 hours total. August can’t get here fast enough, I’m going to preorder for the extra days as well since most of my gaming time happens during the week.

Also side note, anyone else really love the score during the intro? (Carrying the ova to the keep when you see the title)
I loved everything about the demo...the atmosphere, the visuals, combat, level design all top notch! Can't wait for the release.

I could've sworn I remember seeing the Mortal Shell dev's were English, now I see there actually US from Vancouver, WA...very weird. Anyways, I don't know if I mentioned this or not on these forums, but I bought the first game on a deep sale and was put off by it almost immediately and refunded it. Mainly I think it was the healing mechanic and overall just seemed kinda generic, no offense. I'm gonna d/l the demo for this and give it a shot later on tonight, maybe. Is the healing the same as in the first game or have they moved to a flask system? I don't really remember to much just that you healed with food items that you found, but they took a really long time to respawn.

The demo for this one is leaps and bounds better than the first game. The blocking mechanic in that one was the defining feature of the combat and it felt really clunky. The new one has gone for a surprisingly easy-to-time parry system. Give it a shot; it surprised me.

I’ve tried multiple times to get into the first one and just can’t. It’s wild af how much better this one is.

The first game has some good maps and enemies, but it's definitely generic as far as gameplay goes. Once you get used to mixing dodges with the "harden" mechanic, there isn't much else to it. The additional DLC weapon they added later (the axe katana) did add some nuance, though. The demo for MS2 is like 3x better either way. Plus, Mortal Shell wasn't particularly long. The demo for #2 is roughly 1/2 the length of the original game and it's free.

I liked the first Mortal Shell a lot...it wasn't perfect but I liked the framework in terms of its combat and Souls-like features...looking at it now the first game seems more like a prototype or tech demo for the 2nd game

Went ahead and pre-ordered the devout edition. This is really the only game I'm looking forward to and I'm REALLY looking forward to it. I'll be able to get a lot of time in during those extra few days, gonna be long 3 weeks.

I kinda want to play the demo again, but I'm like 95% sure it's the first X% of the full game and would just be wasted effort.

Did you get all of the Achievements in the demo? Might be worth going back if you're an Achievement Hunter.

I wondered if we'd be able to transfer data from the demo... Don't care either way, happy to run through it again, though it is 4-5 hours to be thorough.

Yeah, I figure I don't want to burn myself out playing through it again and discovering we can't port anything forward. It's great, but I'm not sure I want to play through that one section 3 separate times. It's only a month away, so I can wait. I'm just replaying older games in the meantime.

Kinda reminds me of playing through The Borkzerker: Khazan recently. When I started the full game I used the continue option just to see what it was gonna do and then all the sudden I got like 15 achievements popping at once and started me right where I left off from the demo. Kinda crazy.

Anyway I finally got around to the demo. I think this will be most likely wait for sale for me if at all. I don't know what it is but I'm just not into it :shrug. I mean it's not terrible, it doesn't feel bad to play. I think mainly it's just the doom and gloom atmosphere, just seems depressing.

Trippin. Almost all Souls-likes are inherently dark, the darker the better I say. Finish it and report back, by then I'd bet you'll be more into it.

Yeah I did two complete runs but started a third because I wanted to see what would happen if I actually took out that first "fuck you" boss. Pretty much going to kick back with Splatoon Raiders until release lol.

:D I actually already deleted it, I'll most likely play it at some point anyway. I'm kinda burnt out of the "likes" at the moment. Fucking Khazan was making me irate :D I actually broke my washing machine because I slammed the lid down and it wouldn't lock anymore, so I had to ghetto rig it back up lmfao!

LOL. Kahzan is worth the struggle, plus they have easy mode now. Mortal Shell 2 has more traditional combat and is easier imo.
