Mortal Shell 2

At least they are not bothering with the whole EGS exclusivity deal again. Still need to play the first one which I got for free.

If the Combat is faster I might pick it up the first game was a slog.

I liked the first game a lot, I just found it to be really short. It was like the opposite of TLoU2. You beat a boss and think the 2nd half of the game is inbound only to see the credits rolling.

The trailer looks bad ass. I'm digging the gunplay, too. It's Remnant-esque. Just make the game a bit longer and I'm onboard ASAP.

I'm not really into this kind of game but this looks awesome. The special moves are so brutal and cool. Like where he grabs that guys chin and beats him in the face with it lmao. The whole style of the game is just cool.

And that close up of the cat licking it's balls lmfao.

Everything looks great so far. I'm hoping there's an option for a more consistent musical score. I dig the black/doom metal vibe they're going for and it's something I wish more Souls'ish games put more time into. They tend to have super dramatic and high tension music in boss fights. Most of the time it's super light ambient or nothing at all. I feel like a strong score can enhance things further.

I’m cool with what they’re going with here but don’t act like the score in ER isn’t beyond peak.

True. Between symphonic and metal guitars, I'm going with symphonic every time. Metal is great for comedy though, and Doom.

I liked the music in Elden Ring's boss encounters, but most of the time it's barely noticeable. Most other Souls games follow that same approach, too. Virtual silence followed by super dramatic classical score during big fights. I want something more ever present and heavier. No cringy metalcore stuff that sounds like the parking lot of a motocross event, though. The newer Doom (the game, not the music subgenre) leans in that direction hard and it's so bad it's almost funny. There was an update to the original Mortal Shell that added some black metal tunes to the boss fights that was pretty cool, but most of the time it was back to silence and ambient noise.

Oooooh. Time to DL this!

EDIT: It looks good and runs well. I cranked everything to the max and set DLSS to quality + framegen on. It looks a lot like the Lords of the Fallen, although maybe even better.

I've played it a bit more and I think it's pretty cool. The only thing I'd say is that it's especially derivative. The shell mechanic is still there, but it's less integrated into your defensive approach and it's more like an occasional superpower you can bust out. The gun feels powerful, though. It's lifted from Revenant, but is stronger with more limited uses. I'm a fan of the genre, so I'm going to buy it for sure. If you aren't, I'm not seeing anything here that stands out as particularly unique.

EDIT: It should be mentioned that this demo is impressive as hell, though. It's not just a 5-minute whirlwind tour of the mechanics. It's quite substantial. There's a lot to see and do, it looks and runs like a million bucks, and it's polished. There are even achievements. With as short as the original Mortal Shell was, I was expecting way less. They deserve a ton of credit for putting this thing out.

I can't overstate how impressive this demo is. It's massive, and they pulled no punches with the mechanics they let you see/do. I'd say it's probably the best demo I've tried out since the shareware days. This went from "I'll probably pick this up at some point" to a day 1 purchase for me. Hell, I might even pre-order it just to show my appreciation.

Yeah this is really good so far, probably day one for me as well. One thing that’s kind of odd though is I can’t change my resolution to 4K, maxes out at 1440 on a C2, doesn’t look like it though.

Well at least your character move faster than a snail. I have way too many Souls clone games that are unfinished.

high praise

Just started; looks pretty sweet. I'm glad more and more games are integrating DLSS frame gen. Although the lack of HDR in the game is curious.

Apparently they even hid some additional stuff (like another type of sword you can use) in this demo, too. I've gone from mildly hopeful to excited as hell for this game.

Thought I was very thorough but didn't come across that, just got the dagger axe weapon combo, where is it?

Man I have put 4 hours into this so far and wow...I am absolutely loving it. Gives me the feels of playing a brand new high quality souls where there is both excitement and dread from wondering what's down the path. I may even take a day off when this is released.

I dunno, I just saw a reddit post about it that came across my feed. It looked like a larger red version of the greatsword with some fancy flourishes on it. There's a crossbow I didn't get, too.
I'm away from my machine, so I can't go back and skulk around at the moment.

I've put a few hours into it now. Just picked up the Axe & Dagger and upgraded it a couple of times. The graphics are nice and it runs well. Movement feels a bit floaty and I've fallen off many a ledge because of it. I've had one crash and one instance of getting stuck in the floor. So far it's pretty decent and WAY better than the first one. Probably a 'Wait for Sale' for me.

Almost done with the demo and I don't think I'll pick it up unless they fix edge detection on movement. Both feet on the ground but a toe/knee/arm is over the edge? Tough luck you're getting sucked off of the cliff/bridge and there's nothing you can do to stop it. It's worse at that than any other game I can think of; it's literally like every edge is covered in oil. Also had another instance of getting stuck on the ground.

Yeah I will be picking it up regardless BUT they should change it so actions do not ever carry you over the edge like LotF did.

With so much content out there, it'll be interesting to see when they choose to release this game. I'm hoping for summer so we don't have a dogpile of big games all dropping at once.
