Murphy’s Law has been invoked for Microsoft’s newly released hotfix to improve AMD’s Bulldozer performance. It seems that the hotfix actually lowered the performance even further in some cases. Microsoft has since pulled the update for further testing and evaluation. Oopsie :D

Apparently there is a second part to the hotfix that was not pushed live, and this hotfix was pushed live prematurely.

Maybe AMDs tech is so advanced that the rest of the pitiful world's "modern" tech when trying to interface with all this brilliance does the opposite of what it is supposed to do?

AMD should have worked together with Microsoft to make sure the hotfix was ready when BD launched. When BD was released, there wasn't even going to be a hotfix, we were all going to have to wait until Windows 8... Then there's the whole 800 million transistors going missing thing.. BD may not be perfect, but so far, the "marketing" has been even worse than the actual product.

This makes me feel so horrible for all the new AMD Bulldozer owners out there.

Seriously.

Especially all those bright eyed new guys building PC's for the first time that thought they were getting into something special. From what I understand, Intel I3's are about on the same level of performance as the BD stuff.

Just, damn, what a shame. Terrible terrible news.

I don't feel horrible for the ones that bought it knowing what the numbers were. Its not like it was a secret to anyone who follows tech. Sucks for competition to the cpu market though.

My old i7 is still doing fine for me, and probably will be 3 years from now.

Really should'nt be Microsoft's job to fix AMD's fuck up.
Well according to the technical reasons for a hotfix, it isn't AMD's fault. (Yet not Microsoft's either, but should be Microsoft's desire to provide support.)

don't worry eventually about a year or two bd will perform better after all the os and softwares catch up

This.

Sounds quite reminiscent of the Rage launch and those amd performance drivers being late or something...

Microsoft has no motivation in this case, and as we have seen over the past year or so, the Captains at the helm of the AMD ship are asleep at the wheel.

They somehow managed to released a product that performs worse than earlier generations. They let their marketing department run off the leash and without control, making absurd claims that they didn't even bother to check. The people who actually understood what was happening (the engineering staff) was ignored.

AMD is poster child for failboat run up on the rocks. This "hotfix" going untested before being released just more evidence of AMD's incompetence as of late.

AL the hotfix has 2 parts the one part was pushed to live too early so they pulled it

One of many reasons, that despite owning the latest 990FX board, I will NOT "downgrade" to BD from my Phenom II unlocked quad at 4.0GHz...
