Mass Effect: Andromeda

For tech I think the Angaran armor beats out Heleus. I'm using rank 6 items, and although I have researched the Heleus gear I have not yet crafted any. Great for power damage, but the Angaran basically matches it for tech damage.

Rank 6 Heleus = 34% power damage, 12% weapon damage, 22 Damage Resistance.

Rank 6 Angaran = 33% tech damage, 33% tech duration, 35% shields, 21% tech construct damage.

Heleus is obviously great for those who want to switch between combat, tech and biotic with profiles. No other armor benefits everything across the board. Less spots for augmentations with Heleus as well, can close the gap by getting 8 extra DR on another armor set (or whatever you want with 4 aug slots).

I have not used it yet but the Remnant armor is also interesting. It focuses more on health/shield regen and delay reduction instead of a flat out boost to health/shields/DR. That is easy to dismiss but in actual use I'll bet the Remnant armor does more for survivability than straight up boosts to health or shields or DR.

Having done all the other games on Insanity, and knowing what this game is like so far, I'd wager that the health and shield bonuses will far outstrip the other benefits provided by other armors. Frankly, I've never really cared that much about armor bonuses in these games anyway. I've been able to clear them all wearing whatever gear I thought looked the coolest at the time. Weapon, skill and companion choices made far more difference than anything I ever did with armor.

Well, the patch goes live today- so I'll start a second male Ryder on the next difficulty level and see what happens with armor etc.

I think I used the Helius armor throughout- it made sense, but I'll try to focus on biotics this time and see what I come up with.

You answered your own question: "Why EA hasn't come out with a package that includes all the DLC for a single price or something is beyond greedy." This is exactly the point. Also, the system they have in place has a psychological impact of hiding the costs from the consumer. You figure your still getting a deal because you got the game for $5. Before you know it you paid full price for a 5+ year old game. Outside of the ending, it's actually a good price for the time you can sink into it. The game is a lot of fun despite some issues. The DLC's for it are fucking fantastic overall. EA knows it and this system allows them to make money on it. It works more often than you might think so they'll never tear down the paywall for it. It was many years after release before ME2 had it's DLC go on sale.

I completely agree. Other than the Omega DLC so far I have had a lot of fun with the DLC especially the Citadel one.

some have complained about losing NPC control and also the loadouts. Frankly I think that is one of the best things they have done. The game is not so hard that you really need NPC control, and the NPC loadouts has always been a clusterfuck of a mess in bioware games. I mean you have to continually take shit and evaluate what you have against what they are using and repeat with their old gear on the others. That was just a monumental time waster. Not missed.

I haven't really solidified my thoughts on this- in the first three games, you took control at least of your NPC teammates because you needed them to use their abilities on certain enemies in certain orders. However, you also used cover exclusively, and had the ability to pause and set stuff up.

MEA is different here because you no longer have that pause ability, and it seems that your teammates are intelligent enough to use their abilities when they make sense. I imagine that this wasn't very hard to set up, and so far I can't find fault with the system.

I'll see if it gets better or worse as I turn up the difficulty.

LMK how the update is if anybody gets a chance, I will probably get back on tonight

I see two all too common problems exemplified in this article:

The negatives and whining are way overstated and the expectations of what the patches can and will do are also overstated.

People like that have been and will continue to be disappointed no matter what happens and my advice to them would be go play something else and move on.

No Man's Sky is an Early Access Game at best. Not this. Let's get real here.
Polygon is best ignored.

EDT, not EST. All US states and territories observe daylight savings time at present. EDT would be GMT-4.

May have had maintenance.

Early impressions: I feel like my performance has improved slightly... courtesy keyboard numbers on dialog choices...certain graphical glitches fixed... I could be kidding myself but I feel like my overall PQ is a smidge sharper.... some eyes look more natural and better shaders...saw a press Tab option to skip certain flying animations... going to test to see if banter is restored and some other things.

Eos Podromos terminal with exclamation point now has missing side quest/task.

Hearing an uptick on banter...

I never had the banter bug as far as I know. Then again, it may have only been a problem with certain companion combinations. It seems to me that if there were issues they might center around Cora and certain combinations with her. As far as I know she's just quiet and no one wants to talk to her. Any other combinations I've had seemed to generate quite a lot of dialog. Some combinations seemed more chatty than others. Vetra and Drak seemed to be quite verbose as is Jaal and virtually anyone. PeeBee rarely shuts up etc.

I'm on my second playthrough and I'm early on in the game. I haven't had much time to play but I specifically avoided doing any exploration of the galaxy and only went to specific worlds with missions on them waiting for the ability to skip the animations. I didn't know anything about keyboard numbers being on the dialog wheel. If so that's fantastic. BioWare did that on it's Star Wars the Old Republic MMO and no where else. It seemed pretty damned stupid not to do it. It's especially painful in ME3 where the HUD doesn't do any scaling. At all. I watched my frame rates quite carefully since getting the game. I'll be interested in seeing if they have improved at all. I have seen a fair amount of graphical glitches which can sometimes be fixed by alt-tabbing out and back into the game. Flickering textures can generally be fixed that way. I've also seen the occasional rocks here and there with no textures on them at all. The biggest glitch I saw was with the destroyed craft at the main Kett base on Voeld. Instead of smoke, I got flickering fire and black polygons going ape shit. It's literally the only place in the game I've seen a glitch like that. At first I thought it was my graphics cards artifacting but its the only place there.

I had that glitch. In a Kett base on Voeld. Near the top, you get into this situation and then if you faced in a certain direction in that one room it was this flickering and disturbing white outish effect. I would have thought it was my GPU had it not been specific and controlled.

I could be kidding myself again here but I feel like my videocard's fans aren't having to work *quite* as hard as they were before.

It's possible. Some games seem to heat up GPU's more than others. Star Wars the Old Republic is notoriously bad for this and used to overwhelm some GPU coolers for unknown reasons. The visuals in that game never should have caused any modern GPU of the day or since that level of stress.

What's the word on the update? Improvements? Also, I haven't posted this before but I remember not being able to play Andromeda fullscreen. I basically had to play the entire thing as a borderless window which is fine but it's strange that I had to do that. Fullscreen would just launch the game as a black screen. After I beat Andromeda I loaded up Mirror's Edge Catalyst and it was the same story. Is it just Origin games? Mass Effect 3 doesn't have this issue and that's from Origin too.

From what I've read so far it looks like multiplayer balance is even more fucked up now. They added a new class (Salarian Architect), though!

Andromeda will run full screen. You need to set it up for full screen in the options menu. If it's already set, change it to windowed mode and then change it back. It worked for me.

Glad to see a patch, I picked the game up today on GMG. It's already a lot cheaper than buying straight from origin.

Big improvement.

What I told to myself after Dragon Age: Inquisition (which I enjoyed) was that I'd give the next Bioware title at least a month's worth of post-launch patches before diving in. I'll give it a little more time but things are looking good for waiting.

Her eyes aren't open to the point where you can't see her eyelids. She looks a lot more natural now. Nice improvement for sure.

I think this patch is a winner!

They did also make remnant decryption keys easier to come by and you can even buy them now.

You could always buy them. They used to be 3600 credits though and for much of the game that's quite expensive.

Thanks bioware. At least until now I could play. Now I can stare at a blank screen if I put the game into full screen mode.

For grins, verify files or hit the update option again if you haven't already.

I just looked up the solutions online. There is a list with pictures of every solution and just kept that bookmarked on my phone for whenever I ran across one. I hate Sudoku and that's the last thing I want to be doing when playing a game.

This is fucked. Tried repairing didn't help, says up to date.

I can only run it in windowed borderless but it looks terrible and I get mouse lag I didn't get before. HDR is disabled everything looks too bright, and plasticy.

Plus who was the idiot that put those texts to conversations ? NUM1, NUM2, etc? It's goddamn distracting, and ugly, and doesn't go away even if I unbind all.

I can get rid of all but one of them. For the last (lower left) one I just make it NUM1. That seems to stick. I'd like it to be blank too, but no luck so far. I prefer to just click on the dialog wheel with the mouse.

does anyone do soduku? I don't find the puzzles to be that hard. Just the characters are strange. The main thing is that the characters have to be unique on x, y, and per block. You typically have to look where 3 different characters cross onto a square and then choose the missing one. Alternately you can look at each character and see if they are represented per x, y and block. That method is often easier.

I do the puzzles, at least so far. I've done the first 3 planets without problems. They are getting a bit tedious, so I'll likely start skipping them at some point.

After resetting the game to default settings by deleting the settings files from the save directory I was able to unbind all of them and they're gone. Hopefully permanently this time.

Deleting the settings files also fixed my full screen issue, because by default the game starts fullscreen for the first run. It still showed a blank screen at first, but after waiting about 20 seconds the normal picture did show up. So now I'm able to play with normal graphics again.

The lag seems smaller in fullscreen as well, but not compltely gone. Strangely if I disable motion blur in graphics the lag gets much larger.

I don't get this shit. In Star Wars The Old Republic, you can just hit a number. The number is marked but that's it. You don't have "NUM1" etc. hanging out next to the option. It isn't as though the company can't fucking do it right. I prefer hitting a number to clicking on options with the mouse but that's me. Eitehr way, it's total amateur hour up there at BioWare.

Open your keybinds, reset to default, then scroll down and you can either unbind all the dialog options to get it the way it was pre-patch or you can change the keybinds to whatever you want.

Good deal. I'm glad the choices are there for people to dial that in the way they want.
