Mass Effect: Andromeda

The OT had good alien variance but you never saw them in combat. How is an Elcor or Hanar supposed to hold a gun?

EDIT: The internet delivers.

It’s been two weeks since the launch of Mass Effect™: Andromeda and we’re thankful to the millions of you who have already joined us on this journey. And though the game is now in your hands, it’s really just the beginning.

Since launch, our team has been poring over your comments and feedback, looking to discover what you like about the game, as well as areas we can evolve or improve.

This Thursday, we’ll release a new patch that addresses technical fixes (crashes, improved performance), but also adds a number of improvements we’ve heard you ask for, such as:

  • Allowing you to skip ahead when travelling between planets in the galaxy map
  • Increasing the inventory limits
  • Improving the appearance of eyes for humans and asari characters
  • Decreasing the cost of remnant decryption keys and making them more accessible at merchants
  • Improving localized voice over lip sync
  • Fixing Ryder’s movements when running in a zig zag pattern
  • Improving matchmaking and latency in multiplayer
There are many more adjustments being made, all of which you can find in our patch notes.

Over the next two months we’ll be rolling out additional patches which will go even deeper and look to improve several areas of the game:

  • More options and variety in the character creator
  • Improvements to hair and general appearance for characters
  • Ongoing improvements to cinematic scenes and animations
  • Improvements to male romance options for Scott Ryder
  • Adjustments to conversations with Hainly Abrams
These upcoming patches will also address performance and stability issues. And we’re looking at adding more cosmetic items to single player for free.

For multiplayer, over the same timeframe, we’re going to continue to build on the APEX missions that have been running since launch. We’ll be adding new maps, characters, and weapons. On Thursday, we kick off the first of three new chapters centered around The Remnant Investigation.

This is just a taste of what’s in store as we continue to support Mass Effect: Andromeda. And as always, you all play an important role in that. We want to hear from you about your experiences, both what you love about the game and what you’d like to see changed. We’re listening, and we’re committed to partnering with you as we continue to explore the Andromeda galaxy together.

I could put down ME:A and go through Witcher for 2 months while they patch it. No mention of DLC yet, strange.

Good job Bioware, so in 2 months we will have the game we should have had at launch.

Pretty much confirms what I (and others) suspected: This game wasn't ready to be launched yet and if they had delayed even another "fiscal quarter" I think it would have put it over the top.

Good. They shouldn't bother until the main game is fixed.

Work has kept me from gaming for the past couple of weeks, and for some time ahead. Looks like I'll come back to a better game when my time finally frees up. (y)

eh, no game is ever ready to be launched if you are expecting 0 defects. That just is unrealistic. Some shit that is obvious upon release isn't noticed because of testing blindness. so they shoot to get the main defects cleared up and then have to push the product. Nothing in the list is common "game-breaking" occurrences.

ME:A was not ready for launch, though. It wasn't properly tested and there's a lot of unfinished/unpolished content itself in the game along with plenty of bugs.

I'm not a game dev but I'd say it needed another 6 months at least. Even the patch notes and blog give that vibe, "We launched the Beta version 2 weeks ago and we'll continue developing through the rest of 2017."

Added option to skip autopilot sequences in the galaxy map

It didn't take long for me to tune out the dodgy animation, but that's something that should have been in from the start. I never thought I'd long for the ME2/3 "micro machines" galaxy map, but navigating the cluster in Andromeda (not helped by all the missions that make you travel all over the place) has been painful.

That said, I'm 60 hours in, still haven't finished it (but I can't be far off now), and overall it's been an awesome game. Bugs? Yes. Unpolished in some areas? Yes. Crappy UI / menus? Absolutely. Shouldn't have been released / utterly broken / #biowaresucks? Not in my opinion.

I for one am enraged at the lack of volus representation on the initial nexus. What are they trying to say? That Voli are useless creatures? Unworthy of space or the energy used to freeze and thaw them?

Probably wouldn't fit in the pods.

Wasn't there mention of the Volus being on the Quarian ark?

I know you're being silly, but the Volus along with the Elcor and others are on the missing ark. Hopefully we will see some SP DLC that plays that out.

Figured they would announce a Patch, but after labeling it as "exciting news", I was expecting more. At the very least more bug fixes. Nonetheless, I'll take it.

I finished the game last night with all planets scanned, all missions and side quests done and sitting at rank 64. I will not spoil anything, but the ending did have some nice teasers. There is lots of room for DLC and sequels, but for that discussions I'll break out the Spoiler tags.

  • The Sourge: Never explained, nor its origin discovered; yet a major story device. This should spawn more... something.
  • The Quarians: This one is only found in some text logs and inside one random's dialogue after finishing the last story mission. This will definitely become DLC (at least).
  • The Khet: We have not seen the last of these guys, and more importantly, the Archon wasn't even the leader, just a major player in this galaxy. There is a lot more to come from this race, and I imagine it spanning a trilogy.

I may try out some MP, but otherwise I'm shelving this game until it has been patched into a MUCH better state.

"Improvements to hair and general appearance for characters"

so they are going to work on the character models...nice...also glad to see them work on the character creator...too bad it's going to take up to 2 months...now I'm debating whether to start the game this Thursday when the first major patch hits or wait even longer...

That ark, is the quarian one, launches later than the initial wave of 3 arks.

I haven't gotten that far in the single player, yet, but what I gathered is that the Quarian ark would be delayed by years or decades to finish the logistics of caring for so many disparate species with varying needs. So it's not missing, it just won't show up in the Heleus Cluster for awhile.

I'm trying to wrap up the random tasks but done with the storyline and will wait a while for the NG+. Played this time through as a combat/guns guy. Will do the next go as a biotic charge type build and skip most of the side stuff.

Overall enjoyed the game, still think 2 was the best but got my money's worth out of the game already and the second run will add to that. Hopefully the streamline things a bit and fix the obvious issues.

It's not really a spoiler because it's mentioned very early in the game how many arks there are, and at some point it's mentioned that other races are on one of the missing arks.

for the people that finished the game, how long did it take you?...I'm a completionist and love exploring, doing all the side missions etc

I find the website How Long To Beat to be fairly accurate. Seems like 20 hours for rushing the main story, 54 for story + main side quests and good exploration and around 90 or so if you want to collect every space pebble and stick. :D

If you exhaust every dialog option with every NPC, complete every quest and Point of Interest on every planet, probably 80-100 hours.

EDIT: HowLongToBeat shows 91 hours. I looked it up after I posted the original message! Seems accurate.

So upon arrival in Androameda, it's stated that beacons were placed to reestablish contact with the Milky Way galaxy, but no response has come back. Found something sad about that.

They actually had a Hannar spectre in the third one- for a show, that was being filmed, that Shepard got pulled into. And he held guns just like your image ;).

There is an audio log from the Quarians that you receive- I'm forgetting how- but it is played among various leaders, with the conclusion being that the Quarians are close but stuck and that they're dealing with something that they don't want to bring to the rest of the Initiative, so they're going to be left to their own devices, for now.

Yeah I vaguely remember hearing that in a convo but thought I heard wrong since it seems impossible.
Everytime someone mentions 600 years I wonder to myself how things are going in the Milky Way. It's an insane amount of time:

People back in the Milky Way can actually see how well the AI is doing by using their FTL Telescope. There is a small delay on it (unspecified) so who knows how delayed it actually is. For all we know, the Milky Way can actually see the Scourge.

Then I start wondering how many people in the Milky Way put themselves into Cryo for fun, ya know? "I don't like today, wake me up in 600 years."

Also while we're on the subject, I think it's weird everyone in Andromeda wants to wake up, too. If it were me, I'd ask to be left in Cryo until everything is up and running smoothly... Wake me up for that! But I guess they all joined the AI to be pioneers. Most of them probably want to get woken up ASAP.

The mayor on Eros mentions that they will open the area soon for staking. I'm sure there will be a few in cryo annoyed about that.
