Mass Effect 3 Discussion Thread

I never had this problem. What's the first thing you do in any game when you've cleared an area of hostiles? You LOOT THE BODIES! I don't care if it's a shooter, an RPG, or whatever. All gamers should do this automatically, and nearly, if not every time. Do this and you will almost never find yourself out of ammunition, weapons, or supplies. With Mass Effect 2, I only ever had to really ration ammunition or go find ammunition during a shootout once or twice and only on the insanity difficulty.

I agree and this is what I do in games, but there were a few times that bodies left no ammunition. I never completely ran out of ammo, but I ran out of shotgun ammo somewhat regularly.

It also helps to consistently get headshots, I suppose.

So I ordered the PC collectors edition from target a little while back. When I ordered there was no mention of it being on back-order. I didn't want to pay for the launch date shipping so I just chose to get it on the 7th. Hasn't shipped yet so I called and now they're saying it's on back-order with no ETA.

How can you take orders for something that you don't have in stock and then won't be getting in stock?

Yeah, never preorder from Target. Try to cancel, and order from Amazon (back in stock).

Ah good thing I check this thread often! Just ordered from Amazon, but now it won't arrive until Thurs. That's fine though. I still need to finish my ME2 play through. (lost my old saves, didn't want to use one of the already completed ones)

Thanks man.

I've always managed to scrape together enough ammunition pickups to get through about anything. Few games have ever left me feeling like supplies were just hard to come by. At least none of the good ones did. And yeah, headshots help conserve ammunition.

Holy crap, the muscle guy is annoying. I feel like he's going to break out a six-pack of natty ice, a gamecube, and a backpack full of black dildos covered in Axe body spray.

Brorape.

LOL

Just purchased on Green Man Gaming, got it for 49 bux, DLing through Origin now. I feel like I am going to play this game like a paranoid asswipe knowing that some of the side missions are timed (but not knowing which, and not knowing the timer length).

So, general consensus? Good, bad?

If you liked the others, you'll like this. The game plays a lot like ME2, but they fixed a lot of the things that people were sore about. For example, the inventory, while not quite like it was in ME1, is a lot better. Weapons have stats, as well as upgrades. Same goes for armor. Grenades are back also.

The graphics leave a bit to be desired (some textures look like crap), but that's to be expected. My only issue with the game is that the controls are frustrating as all hell. I don't understand why I have to have the same key bound to run, cover, dive, and use. Just let me bind these things to separate fucking keys. I've had quite a few scenario's already where I've died because I've been diving around when I don't want to be and get stuck somewhere. It's incredibly annoying, and it's mind boggling how anyone thought this was an ideal control setup. Same goes for grenades, which are bound to the number 7, and cannot be rebound. This means I have to move my hand away from WASD, and therefor am unable to (easily) throw a grenade while moving. It's completely retarded.

Those annoyances aside, the game is fantastic. I'm about 11 hours in, and I think my wife is about to kill me if I don't take a break. I don't think I've hardly made a dent in the games content, which keeps me hopeful that there is a ton of time to be invested here.

LOL, Save the game before you talk to the reporter on the citadel!

oh lawd, i didnt do this..

Is there a thread for Graphics tweaks? Ive never worried about this in past Mass Effects, but I'd like to be able to turn AA on, turn up filtering, turn off VSYNC, etc..

I looked in the config file and only saw options for filtering. Does anyone make a tweaking tool or are there command you can add?

I have my grenades in my 8 "quick slot" which I bound to one of my thumb mouse buttons. Not sure why you can't change it.

I'm also really enjoying it, not sure what all the nerd rage is about over this game. I've played through ME and ME2 7 times each and I definitely like ME3 more than ME2 already. Not sure if I'll like it better than ME but with that game I had no expectations and it completely blew me away, so it'll be hard to top.

Like you said, if you like the ME2 this is definitely worth a purchase.

I'm wondering the same thing.

Also, did anyone else find they had to turn their volume up just a tad higher than normal for this game?

I'm using high dynamic range from the audio menu. You have the choice between high and low. Everything's maxed out there, too. Certainly no big deal.

Does anyone know if there is a separate entry in Origin for M55 (pre-order anywhere rifle) or Shotgun (pre-order Origin Only, I think)? I'm not seeing it on mine, just the Gamestop pre-order "N7 Warfare Gear". I assume that all the in-game Collector's Edition items are included in "N7 Collector's Edition Materials". "From Ashes" is also present after inputting the code from the leaflet in the CE.

Now, the "Online Pass" is NOT listed in the Origin "Game Details", but if I go through the social.bioware.com stupidity and check my authorizations, it seems to be there. Its silly that Origin is required for ME3 yet ALL its stuff doesn't seem to be there - for the leaderboard/galaxy campaign thingy I had to auth and create a Bioware SocialNetwork account and link my ME3 on the Origin network to it.

Did anyone also find it strange that further DLC is given for playing the Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning Demo? Well, at least its the demo this time as opposed to the full game like was done with Dragon Age in the past. You get armor just for having played the demo once and a special weapon if you complete the demo and watch the ending cinematic, it seems.

I'm going to make a list of in-game DLC that I know of....tell me if any is missing (This is for the PC version only, USA distribution of DLC)

ALL PC games, all version = one "Online Pass" similar to the Cerberus Network pass in ME2. Since the PC version of course can't be sold as used, every copy will have this included if purchased. It is unknown if there will be any free DLC for Online Pass holders, but it looks favorable according to many. Required to play online/multiplayer.

Pre Order Anywhere = M55 Argus Rifle
Pre Order Origin Only = AT-12 Raider Shotgun
Pre Order Gamestop Only = N7 Warfare Gear (N7 Valkyrie Rifle, N7 Defender Armor)

Collector's (physical) or Digital Deluxe Edition of the game = N7 Collector's Edition Materials
1. Weapons - N7 Hurricane SMG, N7 Crusader Shotgun, N7 Valiant Sniper Rifle, N7 Eagle Heavy Pistol
2. Squadmate Outfits, exclusive, 1 each for the following characters - Ashley, Kaiden, James, Liara
3. Shepard "casual" outfit - N7 Hoodie
4. Bonus non-combat Companion aboard the Normandy - Robo-Puppy!
5. Access to "From Ashes" DLC , detailed below (included in Collector's Edition

Purchased Separately ($9.99) or INCLUDED With Collector's Edition (Digital Deluxe as well?) - From Ashes DLC =
1. Special Mission
2. Special Squadmate
3. Special Weapon
4. Special Squadmate Outfits (Unsure who's)

"Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning Demo" BONUS ME3 Weapon and Armor DLC =
1. Reckoner Knight Armor - Log into Kingdom of Amalur:Reckoning Demo with the same EA/Origin Account that ME3 is upon
2. Chakram Launcher w/Explosive Rounds (Rifle?) - Unlocked after viewing the trailer at the end of the Demo

M-90 Indra Sniper Rifle = Alienware Promo-code Give-away only! How bloody frustrating! However, if you go to www.alienwarearena.com and sign up for a free account, they currently have 9000+ codes left! I expect them to go quick, so get yours soon and drop it into Origin before they're gone!

Those are the Single Player/general DLC I know of so far, now the Multiplayer...amazingly enough

1. Online Pass - Necessary to play online, but PC users are all covered
2. Veteran Supply Drop - Multiplayer-character gear, mid-leveled. Details available in game I remember from the demo. Can be earned with IN GAME CURRENCY and purchased for $0.99 . The Recruit and Basic packs are ONLY offered with game currency, not real money
3. Spectre Supply Drop - same as above, but high level gear with possibly "rares/epics" included. More in-game currency or 1.99
4 Battlefield 3 Pack - Sign in with an Origin account that has BF3 Online Pass (full version game, on PC) authorized. Not sure you what you get, aside from its said to have "BF3 Aesthetics"
5. Collector Assault Rifle - Pre-Order "The Art of Mass Effect 3" from Barnes and Noble ONLY if I recall, OR get codes with ME3 Razer Peripherals. Apparently, these can "stack" to make the rifle better and better.
6. "Premium Collectable Pack" - Unknown content. "A special bonus for dedicated Mass effect fans". Anyone know how to get this or what it contains? HYPOTHESIS: There are going to be physical toys/figures/models of ME3 characters that retail for around $20, that are said to come with DLC codes. Perhaps this is what they mean.
7. Recruitment Reward Pack - Unknown content. Given to those who participated in some sort of Facebook game in the run-up to MassEffect3

and people didn't believe me when I said they were going a little overboard on day bloody one...

I can however, confirm that even the Collector's Edition of the ME3 Prima GameGuide does not seem to come with any sort of in-game item code. Though, there is something I can turn on Prima.com for what appears to be digital maps and such.

So far, I've noticed that there seems to be a LOT less conversation options than there used to be. (Not counting the 'other questions' section, which is just as lore-filled and wonderful as always)

But in important scenes, story-based scenes, it feels MUCH more like I'm watching a movie than I was in Mass Effect 1 or 2. Hell, I think the Paragon/Renegade options have only come up 3 or 4 times so far, and I'm 7 hours in - and mainly focusing on the main storyline! (Ie. no surveying, minimal 'side-quests')

So is it just my imagination, or did they cut a LOT of interaction out of cutscenes?

Ugh, that's no good. There were few enough good dialog options as there were.

Just wait until you see the endings.

They're basically Deus Ex 1's endings

My amazon order arrives tomorrow. It will likely have a return request generated for it immediately. After DA2, SWTOR and now ME3, I'm done with Bioware. 3 strikes, you're out.

Regardless, I'm thoroughly enjoying it. I've played this Shepherd (Krista Shepherd - named after my fiancee and chosen because Hall has a great voice and I hate maleshep's voice) through ME1 and ME2, and it still feels like a culmination of all my efforts. I'm seeing my previous choices highlighted all over the place. And even if they're only cosmetic, it still adds to the immersion. And the choice I had to make between Liara and Garrus (romanced Liara in 1, and Garrus in 2) was so difficult. Because I genuinely like both characters so much. Well done, Bioware.

It's excellent. I don't like that it requires Origin. I don't like their day one DLC bullshit. But it's a great game if you enjoyed ME1 and ME2.

Sidenote - I was always more interested in the story than the 'game mechanics', so it's up to you if you like the changes between 1, 2, and 3 - I'd be happy with the same story and ME1's mechanics, but the new mechanics don't bother me in the least.

Thank you for both!

Got the M-90 sniper rifle and going to get the armor shortly after.

Folks, make sure your spoiler tags actually work.

My tags do not work. And, it has never worked for me honestly.

Unless... it's a different BBcode... :(

Dont have much time this week, took the time to watch the intro, I'm going to love this game, I can tell already. I feel like its going to be a Michael Bay movie that I actually like and care about. For once, I care more about the story than the actual gameplay, really excited.

Folks, if your spoiler tags don't work, at least put some space between the word "spoilers" (which ought to be in caps btw) and the text that follows. Don't do this:

spoiler
the ending sucks...blah blah blah

the way Rampantandroid did above.

for spoiler tags, you must use the format:

Code:
[ spoiler=]Hidden Text Here[/spoiler ]
(spaces added in the brackets to make the text show)
which shows up as:

Hidden Text Here

You have to have the "=" there or it doesn't work. You can put text to use in the button if you'd like, but the "=" has to be there.

Folks, make sure your spoiler tags actually work.
Yeah, that sucked.

Found another issue. It appears anyone who made their original face in ME1 (PC, at least), Imported it into ME2, and wanted to import THAT ME2 finished save game into ME3, is shit out of luck.

There are bugs both in getting the game to see 1) your save at all. A couple of ways to fix this. This is more likely to happen if you used a save editor because it probably took the last string of numbers, representing the date (11292011 or something) off your save folder and 2) Your face graphic.

The second right now, there is no easy fix, according to Bioware - a HUGE clusterfuck all over the forums. There are apparently save analysis tools that can try to bring forth a code, made by 3rd party users, but this is major egg on EA/Bioware's face. The same problem was there at the bloody demo and everyone was told "oh yeah, don't worry about that when the retail gets hereyou'll be able to import your saves and appearance no problem", but... NO!

Again, this seems to be only those who are using a basically "ME1" face that was imported into ME2 and thus has no "Code" numbers, trying to import that into ME3. Honestly I don't feel like going back from scratch and trying to craft another George Takei Shepard, so I really want to see this fixed ASAP so I can begin.

Also, anyone trying to play the Kingdom of Amalur: Reckoning PC demo, but isn't allowed to connect to Origin/EA in-game (ie. to link your rewards etc..)? Mine keeps saying check your connection or try again later, sometimes after longer times than others. I'm wondering if their server are just overloaded fro ME3. I got to play once, the first time, before realizing a horrible graphics glitch so I went out to update my GFX drivers and haven't been able to get the thing to let the in-game login work yet.

all screen shots are 1920x1200
Non-combat FoV

Single player FoV

Multi player FoV

dont think they think its cheating i THINK its a performance issue on the 360 and PS3 and were just lazy

God that vision is so narrow. Another reason I dont buy 16:10 monitors. Dev's don't know how to add proper 16:10 support. What I find funny is people always pull there FOV back. Which is what 16:9 already does.

Why aren't people bitching about the textures?

LOOK AT THIS SHIT

The 3rd party tool fix for this was mentioned two pages back:

Ok since everyone else is going to run into this.

http://fuckyeah-masseffect.tumblr.com/post/18171019818/importing-your-me1-sheps-face-into-me3

If you go through those steps you get the facial structure imported. A few things wont be right...hair, nose, scars, complexion, some others. But you can get close.

I too say that the textures suck. The armor and clothes stand out the most for me, they look like 640x480!

The graphics are worse than ME2....

The Dragon Age 2 is already a big disappointment, now ME3 ......

Console really ruins the game quality....

I don't understand it, the developer already has the high resolution textures originally used with the game, they strip it down for console version but leave the shitty textures for the PC version! It wouldn't have taken them no time to include them since they are already been made.

I can't really understand why the clothing textures are so awful in this series. It's really saddening.

The lighting is worse as well. There is a lack of HDR and color correction that was present in ME2 that is why everything looks dull. I took some comparison shots from the demo earlier http://hardforum.com/showpost.php?p=1038412152&postcount=368 and i seems the only boom/glow effects from the lighting you get is prescripted lens flares and certain weapon effects.
RE5: Green filter
Deus Ex HR: Yellow Filter
BF3: Blue filter (plus bonus vignette effect!)
CoD and game made by Epic: Brown filter
ME3: Gray filter (plus bonus vignette effect!)

What the hell is wrong with colors?! Why do these companies hate color so much? Is color too crazy of a feature to ask for?

Has anyone else who bought the CE noticed that Clint Mansell's name is only on two of the tracks?
