Man Cave Project

What kind of switches are those? They look like maybe 2000 series? Just curious. Also you have alot of switch ports are you wiring the whole house? I wired my whole house exactly the same however I have a wall mount rack in my basement instead of in the house.

They are 3550's. They are not just for the household connections but also for sand boxing and playing.
 
The desk that I planned to use for soldering and such is getting an addition. My Brother In Law was out and brought his machines to reload. I had to bring out a monitor, keyboard, mouse, power etc and put it out on the desk. It complete filled up the desk is a huge mess. I end up doing more of that than I care to admit so I decided I would put up a single monitor on another pole. Because it's a single monitor it can be set much further back and I can retain a lot of desk space for soldering iron and such. I have a spare 23" ultrasharp monitor that I will use on this mount

I usually don't get much done during the week with work being insanely busy. I have the other monitor mount ordered a it's due for delivery on Friday. The LEDs that I ordered are coming from China so who knows when those will be delivered. I may try to stop by Radio Shack today and pick up a battery box. We'll see if I get a lunch or not.
 
I just got a nice camera and plan on posting some shots of my mancave. What was originally planned as a 2 week buildout turned into a 6 month project but I am really pleased with the outcome. Your updates and ideas have got me thinking about other improvements I'd like to make.

My single monitor mount should be in today! Let's home I measure the depth of the flange the pipe correctly when I mounted it to the desk :)

I did the same thing for years. I've used completely unfinished basements, old outdated basements with wood paneling and rooms built in the garage. All worked well and were a ton of fun. I just happen to get lucky this time around :)

I got the other monitor mount in and mounted it with the monitor to the other desk. I'll grab some pictures this tonight.
 
I may tackle hiding the TV wiring behind the wall today. I finally got around to ordering a 120v PDU for the server rack too. Speaking of servers, there is a very good possibility that I will get my hands on a Dell R900 with dual 6 core CPU's. May be a month or two though.

I didn't feel like screwing with drywall so I decided I would cut down the existing extension that I had to bridge the gap between the desks. I'm not all that great with wood work but it turned out pretty well. I think it looks much better now.

I agree, I should have done it earlier.

I cut down the frame that came with the extension I had. Kind of hard to see in the pic but you get the idea.... you probably get a better idea of the crappy cut I made with a hack saw :) I prefer to use the chop saw at work but I had the kids so I did what I could with what I had.

That definitely looks like the best way to attach it. I might do something similar in the next year or two so thanks for making me a tutorial :)
 
Picked up the rest of the stuff that I needed to get the LEDs running off the steel cables. Also did a quick test to see if it was going to work or not. The test was successful so now It's time to wire it all together. I will work on that later today and post some pics.
 
Pretty sure it was posted, but could not find it for the life of me. What monitor arm are you running?

The "cave" is coming together well, can't wait to see the finished product.

No problem, it is a Chief KTA325B. It is attached to 1.5" steel pipe that is threaded on one end and screwed into a floor flange. Most hardware stores will have the pipe and flange.
 
Its pretty straight forward to move a 794x from SCCP to SIP in my experience, you just need the firmware from Cisco...

Installed an aluminum poker table drink holder into the desk. I will get some pics tomorrow.
 
Very cool man cave. You just need a mini fridge or something for beer and a stripper pole.

Mini-fridge is in the utility room right behind me and I just can't find room for a stripper pole. Maybe when the kids move out of the room next to me here :)

Look Ma, no wires!

LOL, took me long enough to get around to this project. Finally got the TV wiring hid in the wall. I removed the wireless adapter from the TV and hard wired it. I also put in an HDMI cable. Its currently hooked to the machine sitting on the desk which needs to replaced by something smaller.
