Mafia III

The more I see, the less I like. It really does look like a generic open world grind fest like Mad Max with a bunch of power fantasy gore porn thrown in.

I guess this is the series' first time doing open world, so we shouldn't expect much???

The reviews will be mixed/mediocre just like Mad Max. Hopefully the campaign/story will carry it!

Mad Max was the most fun I've had in awhile, the vibe and ambient sounds put it over the top. I know I clowned Mafia II, but I don't think Mafia III is going to even come close to Mad Max.. I mean, there's not much for me to blow time on waiting for BF1...

Watch the Easy Allies preview from yesterday. It seems each district has to be captured and relies on completing dozens of the same activities over and over. Most of which involve killing a boss NPC or destroying a single objective.

I liked Mad Max but only because you pimped out your car as a reward. "Killing all the racists" isn't really fun enough to keep me playing for tens of hours. Needs some kind of meta game.

I agree that I'm liking it less after seeing more videos put out. will still try it out though, maybe the story will be compelling enough. I am also waiting for BF1.

Looks like I may be passing on this after all, does anyone have any leads on cheap codes? Seems like everything is for the EU.

I'm interested. Considering on buying the deluxe edition. I mean for $80, it's literally $20 cheaper than pretty much any other game with a seasons pass. They promise four DLCS throughout the year.

I'm interested, but won't buy until I see some reviews.

30 FPS LOCK CONFIRMED BY PCGAMER

Mafia 3 appears to be locked to 30fps on PC | PC Gamer

We received Mafia 3 code this afternoon, and I've started work on the review. But I noticed that the controls felt kinda sluggish, before realising that, if my Fraps readings (and my eyes) are correct, the game is locked to 30fps.

I thought maybe my PC just couldn't handle it, so I shifted down 720p and the lowest graphics settings, but it was still locked to 30. I'm running a GTX 970, an i5-6600K overclocked to 4.5GHz, and 16GB of RAM, which should be more than enough. And it still happens when I disable the in-game vsync option.

So yeah, not great. Whether this is something that'll be fixed in a day one patch, or will be sorted via a forthcoming graphics driver update, remains to be seen, but as it stands it feels like Lincoln is trudging through sludge as I walk around the (very pretty) city of New Bordeaux. We've reached out to 2K to see what the deal is.

It's worth mentioning, I still see other YouTubers and even the Mafia 3 devs themselves confirming 60fps SHOULD BE possible but we now have 2 separate sources claiming a 30fps cap. It could just be a bug with their copy (specifically, review copy).

Stay vigilant.

Same. I was going to pull the trigger on this tonight, too.

I was waiting for GMG discount. They sent an email yesterday morning and the discount never worked or they had a very small batch that went real quick.

An incredible amount of research went into making the new 'Mafia' game feel ultra realistic

LOL. "Realistic" except for the sluggish and molasses like 30fps cap on any game in the year 2016 on any platform.

I really shouldn't even see 30 fps on the XB1 and PS4 these days let alone the PC. Ridiculous. No excuses.

People hope on /r that this was only early copy lock and will be removed with tomorrow's release patch. So hell no I'm preordering. I'll wait till it's launched, patched and reviewed. If it's true that it's 30 FPS locked then no way I'm buying it. And from what I see on /r all the collecting things looks garbage, AI is stupid, there is not even physical damage on cars, and lots of things is repetitive. Looks like reskinned Godfather.

So far, looks like bargain bin purchase.

Same, guess we'll wait and see. Fuck. I'll be pissed if this is locked to 30FPS and GoW4 is still jacked up from the Win 10 AU update issue, I want something to play this weekend.

TotalBiscuit's Twitter account said 60fps support will be coming "soon" but there are no details on exactly when. He's waiting on a statement from 2K.

Glad I didn't pre order lol.

Ditto. It is this kind of thing that's the reason I will never pre order again. I'll probably look at buying it once they've uncapped the framerate and depending on if the game itself gets some good reviews.

Statement from 2K:

A message to our PC players 10/6/2016

We know how important having options that best suit your PC’s performance capabilities are. The team has been hard at work ensuring that Mafia III’s performance is consistent across all platforms, and right now the game runs at a solid 30 frames-per-second. We are currently working on an update for PC that will give players the option to play Mafia III at higher framerates. We’ll share more details about the update, and when you can expect it to arrive, very soon. In the meantime, the team welcomes feedback and would like to hear from you about what performance adjustment options are important to you. We’re actively considering a number of additional post-launch improvements on PC that would give players more control over how they can tailor the game’s experience to suit their rig’s performance. It’s been an incredible journey developing Mafia III and we couldn’t be more excited to get the game in your hands and hear what you think!

Well I guess you'll have to wait until you unlock the framerate to hear what the PC community thinks then, won't you?

This statement screams to me that there will be little to no graphic options in the game on PC, much like Bioshock Remastered.

same, I'll be waiting and since Battlefield 1 will release very soon along with Civ 6, this game will be pushed back until whenever to never for me. Short sighted developers saved me some money.

You show me the patch 2K, then we can talk about me thinking to purchase the game. Luckily there is quite a number of decent games being released, so I'll play something else. Not going to spend my hard earned cash on that game right now.

All because of locked framerates?

God forbid a game has more important things, like content, story, game play etc... Because if it's at 30 frames, it's the devil!
o_O

As long as this game has controller support, I'm still interested.

No way am I playing this with KB&M

This is actually the Tweet I was referencing:

I just forgot to link to it.

it's 2016 and developers are still releasing games at 30fps on PC with a later patch adding 60fps support??...

A shame they made a bonehead decision to lock the frame rates for PC. Really shitty of them to do that especially to those that pre-ordered. I'll wait for a full review of game play and performance and then decide. Not feeling really confident at this point and the decision to lock it to 30fps doesn't help. Read that 2k! (they probably don't see look at this site though).

UPDATE [10/6 / 6PM PT]: We currently have a patch running here at the studio that includes 30, 60, and unlimited frames-per-second options in the video menu, among other improvements for the PC version of Mafia III. We’re verifying the patch now to ensure everything is working as expected. If everything goes well, we expect the update to go live this weekend. We will be keeping the PC community up-to-date on the status of the patch throughout the weekend and thank you for all the feedback!

Cool. Well, that's a relief. Honestly they should know better anyway, PC gamers are not stupid and this would tremendously limit their sales on PC until it was fixed anyway. And for people who didn't read anything out there, all it would have taken was them launching the game and they'd be asking for refunds on Steam immediately. Not worth it to 2K to attempt that kinda shit.

Fuck 30 FPS games on PC, period. There is really ZERO excuse for that shit.

I'm not too worried about the 30FPS (it sounds like a bug to me), but you might try reaching out to GMG Support. They hooked me up with a 22% discount redemption code just because I asked since I literally had not had the email for 24 hours when I saw that it was at full price. Worst case scenario is that they say no.

I think it would be grossly negligent to write this off as a bug. The fact that they are having to patch in a 30/60/unlimited FPS option in the menu tells you this is not a bug.

Kind of baffling that 2K thought that it could include a 30 fps cap without anyone noticing or complaining in the first place.
