Low Fps with 4890?

I definitely reccomend you DON'T do any gaming on it or use it as little as possible until you fix the problem. A CPU at those temps are erring towards totally burning up, and the longer you let it go the worse it will get and lower the lifespan of youre nice quad core.

One question.. are you using the oem heatsink that comes with the Q6600 or aftermarket? I have a feeling you're using the stock one that can fool you into thinking that it's fully seated on top of the cpu correctly because you didn't lock all 4 pins completely.

That's what I was thinking. Either that or clogged with dust heatsink fins.

Yea when i built the computer all 4 pins wouldnt go through only three no matter how much i tried and when i looked today only 1 was in and the heatsink wasnt even touching my cpu. I tried another heatsink/fan but only three pins go in. I want to invest in a good heatsink for LGA 775 but are there any that use special types of pins instead of the cheap plastic ones that stock comes with?

If you want one right now, then you can go to Best Buy and grab a new one. OR you can try one of these from newegg:

Xigmatek Dark Knight S1283 I have this HSF and love it. I have an OC'ed i7, and it keeps it to around 35-40c at 3.8 ghz.

Or, you could check out a TRUE120, or a Noctua. All 3 heatsinks are among the best 3 you can purchase.

+1 for the xigmatech. Its about half the price of the other coolers and cools just as well.

Those 3 both do, but its a lot smarter to use a product such as arctic silver 5. Or whatever is rated the best right now. I'm out of the thermal paste loop right now :p. I actually think there's a review of various thermal pastes on HardOCP, but I might be imagining things.
