Love your socket 754?

Something that would be a bit interesting to know...how many members went OEM Bare CPU and how many went Proc. in a Box/Retail?

I went PIB/Retail.

i went oem because it was $25 cheaper at the time, looking back i wish i went retail since i spent about 15 on the first hsf and then another 30 on a better one, and i would have had the longer warranty if i went with a retail cpu

i went retail, that3 year warentee that i voided the first second i put it in my rig was too great to give up. heres a pic of my beauty!

Eclipse's is very similar to mine, but my suicide was a bit higher......

:D

Max benchable speed so far is 2.6GHz on 1.7v with some cold air in it's face...

Yo, i'm in! I've been running a 754 processor for a good eight months now, and I've been nothing but impressed! I've ordered the parts to begin building my next 754 system! Coming soon: Athlon64 3400+ Newcastle, DFI Lanparty UT nF3 250Gb, 1GB Corsair DDR400, all on it's way!

Yay! I don't have any pics of my proc, but it is a 3200+ Newcastle. I was going to get the 3400+ Clawhammer with the 1meg cache, but I didn't have enough money to get it at the time, so I just went with the Newcastle.

i decided to try battlefield 2 today, and after playing for about 35 mins my cpu overheated and my PC automatically restarted, i decided to clean the hsf and apply some new arctic silver. here are some pics of how nasty the hsf was under the fan, the first pic is my CPU

What are you guys running for heatsinks? even with mine clean and a fresh application of AS5 i am idleing at about 52degrees C on my dfi lanparty ut according to cpufan. i dont really want to spend more than $50 on a hs with a fan and i would rather not take my motherboard out of the case, but will if it is necessary.

edit- i just got the 250th post in this thread woohoo!

i had that heatsink fan. it LOVES dust bunneis, and its sooo hard to clean. i was runnign the xp90, which is SUPER cheap right now, and will get those temps WAY lower then that 52ºc idle.

heatsink? what's that? :p

i have a TDX + mag3 + '77 bonneville loop. keeps temps below 35c in a 25-27c room

and im not using a heatsink at the moment at all, im in the long long process of setting up watercooling, it takes soo long when your lazy at buying parts. my loop will soon be ehiem 1250 > RBX > maze4 gpu > 77' bonnevile core.

there is a compatibility list at thermalright. the xp-120 does fit though, but i believe covers up one of the dimm slots a bit

i might pick up the xp-90 and a tornado for the summer, then back down a little on the fan for the winter since my room is alot cooler in the winter

http://www.crazypc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=50960 that seems to be the cheapest i could find with price watch.

does the xp-120 fit on the dfi lanparty ut? or is it too big? (http://www.crazypc.com/Merchant2/merchant.mv?Screen=PROD&Product_Code=50980 with the panaflow)

http://store.yahoo.com/svcompucycle/xp-90-21.html - $24.99 I have used them before. They're pretty good.

XP-120 here with a Panaflo....burning in my damn CPU. I thought I had the "perfect" amount of AS5 on my CPU, but once I yanked it off I found out otherwise...even with the recommended size of AS5 it was too much, so I did even less this time. Temps are high, but I think that's the damn burn-in to blame. I primed for 8 hours today and the load temps went down...I'll shut it off tonight and turn it back on tomorrow and do that all week for it to "cure"...hopefully my temps will be good by then.

I hate the thermal sensor for this board, so damn inaccurate.

max sig length here is 10 lines, sorry bud.. and it still doesn't say that you're a member ;)

i would go for the 3700+ clawhammer, and oc it. you should be able to do 2.7ghz without too much effort.

um yah now that we have this club we should do cool club things or something like go make fun of all the 939ers they suck yah!!!

wussup guys

I just got parts for 3 systems that I am building all with 754 cpu/mbs and etc etc  :)

I want to be in the 754 club!

Gigabyte board cost me about £70 and CPU was £150 about a year ago. Now added 1.5Gb RAM and a 6800GT. Its sick how much performance you can get now for a relativly small price... I remember what I paid for my first P200mmx self build back in 1997. Now my VGA card has x4 RAM than my whole PC did back then!
