Love your socket 754?

Not mine yet, but its what i'm planning to order at the end of the month :) I sold my P4 rig for this, it better be good! ;)

youll be happy with it, and s754 is a nice home, we are welcoming.

There we go again.

Unfortunately, hereis the part where I explain how useless it is overclocking HTT bus alone, and using dividers to keep everything else stock. Hell, almost anyone can do ar ound 400MHz. Some can even go up to 600HTT. Pointless, though as it yeilds no performance gain. Hell, if you UNDERCLOCKED your HTT to... say, 100MHz x2 = 200MHz (it's not actually possible) you wouldn't suffer any performance loss.

Good lord, I know all of this.
This just stemmed from an argument with Epicenter about Socket 754 boards not being able to do high HTT's. Thanks for reminding me of something I already knew though and have known for a long time :D

quick question: how much does the lack of dual channel affect s754?

Very little. The effects of single channel can be all but negated when using a CPU with 1mb of L2 cache.

So its minimal, I was just nervous as I am coming from P4's where your crazy if you don't run dual-channel ;) Thanks for clearing that up.

On the A64, you're "crazy" if you dont have tight timings. But its not a big enough deal to lose sleep over. If you have the money/voltage, then go for it. If not, then get that memory divider going and get the core speed up :D

Hopefully my memory will be able to overclock nicely :D Whats the minimum PSU I should be looking at to power this rig? Would this be good enough?

it might be, but i wouldn't push it. i'd look for something with >20a on the 12v line

huh???
my 16 amp antec does fine with a oc'ed 754 and oced 6800........

Antecs are probably better than Enermax's to begin with. What's the voltage right now on your 12v line?

Pfft, Powerstream 520 ownage :D

Yeah, I like my Powerstream 420W a lot. It's plenty of PSU for a non SLI system. OCZ makes (or rebadges, as some would say, but the easily adjustable rails with LED's are a unique feature) a great product.

I would have gotten the 420 watt but they were out of stock so I said fuck it and paid the extra $60 for the 520 watt.

all i care about is the rock solid rails and adjustable rails. green fans are an added plus to match my color scheme

ahh, PSU ownage huh? i got a 34a on the 12v psu, made by Rosewill none the less :D. it came fully sleeved, and the only thing that drops is the stupid 3.3vrail. ill vsense mod it someday.

I like the finish on the Metal too.
Oh and if anyone is wondering, I went to Markham yesterday and got a Viewsonic E90F for $150
And I also got a Chieftec Matrix Black tower to match the monitor for $37!!!
I love both of them :D

ohh i hate you! i love the chieftec anytihng cases, the dragons most of all though.
They had Dragon towers (Red, Purple, and Blue) for $50 :)

EDIT: Rearranged my Signature for Most to Least expensive items :)

haha nice. i really want one of those chieftech dragons, remember when tigerdirect had em for 20 bucks a piece? i really shoulda jumped on it then.

DFI Lanparty UT NF3-250
MSI K8N Neo Platinum
Asus A7N8X
1x1gb crucial value
2x512mb crucial ballistix
2x256mb kingston hyper-x (BH-5)
1x128mb crucial value
XFX 6800GT
Apollo GF4-mx
Gainward GF2-ti

FANS FANS FANS FANS FANS!

see? definitly over the 10 line max. i couldn't deal :p ;)

woot woot i'm hopefully getting my money back on a mobo that i'm returning since it died, if I do i'm probably going to order my DFI NF3 LP today

Haha, (cf)Eclipse, too much crap, just put your Main rig, because I have 3 computers I could put in my sig too :)

Nice, DFI board is definetly a great board, anyone who says it is finicky is nuts, it never whines about the settings I use.

it is the 3700 claw or newark, depending on if you think the 90nm = faster thing, then the newark is. te 3700 claw has DROPPED soo fast, it useda be like 350 now its 280.

I think that once you're around long enough and people know you, the whole "everything i own in my sig" goes away....now I just keep the important stuff listed. Someday, I might graduate to eclipse's style and link imporant stuff. :p

Yeah i've been warned that DFI boards are not for the faint of heart so i'm ready to get my feet wet ;)

you'll be fine until you try to figure out what all the dram settings that are normally left on auto do.. hell, i'm still working on that myself :p

You're such a noob

haha, someone called (cf) a noob! good news folks! my watercooling supplies are finally all here! the great race to the great blue, or maybe green if i cant get blue antifreeze, sea is on! i hope to be done by the weekend. pics soon!

*cries*

:p

the problem i have is that they effect each other. when i change one setting, it seems like 2-3 other settings optimal point moves.. and lower isn't always better for performance. it's creepy :(
