been using my G500 for a few weeks now, and it works pretty well. I have found that the mouse wheel is a little hard to use in games when using the "push down" function - I find myself always clicking the scroll wheel right instead of pushing down. Other than that it is a very nice mouse. My precious thumb has yet to become irritated.

THANK YOU! I was considering buying this since I'm a gaming mouse whore but I use the mouse wheel push function all the time and require it to be easy to click. I'll stick to my Razer Lachesis for now till I find out more about the Cooler Master Setinel. :)

The extra side buttons and the removable weights of the g500 seem nice, but I think I will be sticking with the mx518 possibly forever. Seriously. It just seem to be the perfect mouse for me, though I do like the shape of the older mx518 more so than the new version. The older one was more humped where palm rested, whereas the the newer style mx518 is is slightly flatter. I've tried to use a couple different Razer mice and they just feel alien to me. I don't feel comfortable gaming without an mx510/518. Perhaps when the time comes for me to replace my current mx518 I might consider the g500, by then it come down in price a little as well.
 
the third thumb button seems too small and too close to the other two thumb buttons
how the heck do you use it with the accidentaly pressing the other buttons

I found a simple solution: dont use the mouse wheel push down, just use the mouse wheel tilt buttons, they get the job done just as well
I first was upset with this but then I realized I get two tilt buttons in place of a single mouse button so its a good tradeoff
 
Question for those who have owned both the MX500 and MX518: Is the scroll wheel sensitivity and feel the same for both these mice?

I recently got the MX518 after wearing out my MX500 and I like everything but the scroll wheel on the 518. It's scroll resistance is too hard and is actually hurting my finger and wrist. I don't know if I have a defective unit or is that just how it is?
 
And a question about the G500. How is the middle scroll wheel button click like? I have the MX Revo and the middle button is horrible - it doesn't take half the time and I have to click twice to make it work. Hate it.

I'd say that it is most definitely defective. Mine is fine, scrolls and presses great.

Yep, that's what I thought too! It seems like the wheel is pressed into the mouse too much.
 
Sorta off topic, but I just got the Cooler Master Sentinel. It's very nice. Good size very accurate. The funny thing is with all the weights installed it's the same weight as my G9 w/o any weights. It's cool to be able to change the colors, but not that big a deal to me. Scroll is nice, but I don't think it has horizontal scroll.
 
Didn't have time to read this thread yet, but what do you guys think about the Logitech G500 vs the Razer Deathadder 3.5G vs the Razer Mamba?

I had a G5v2 and loved it, but I found the tracking wheel stiff to move plus the cord broke from abuse. It also frayed with that cloth covering. So when I replaced it, I went with the Razer Deathadder and loved that one, it had a nicer wheel, it felt good, but the cord was a bit thin, and the G5 did feel more solid, but the razer looks like something batman would use, it was cooler in that respect, and I liked the soft rubber grippy feel. I read about the Deathadder infared sensor's ablility to track better for general non gaming use, I believe that was the case for me, not sure. Gave my Razer away to a family member, so now I have an excuse to buy a new mouse!

It's between the Deathadder 3.5G and the Logitech G500, with an occassional glance at the Razer Mamba, but something tells me to stay away from that one. I used to own a G7, but that was not as good as the G5v2, lots of battery issues and lack of a back button. Loved the freedom though. Any thoughts to help me out? And does the wheel on the G500 move better than the G5v2?
 
I just bought a G500 and love it. This general mouse shape just fits my hand so well. I started with an MX510 (gave it to my wife), then moved to a MX518 (now used at work), have a G7 for my laptop (wish it had two side buttons), and the G500 on my primary computer. I have tried a couple other mice but find that this particular shape works very well.
 
RMA'd my G5 first gen, and they offered a G500 as a replacement. I'm liking the bigger thumb rest, and the third side button is a non-issue, anybody with half a brain can feel all three buttons.

I do wish that the DPI adjustment was behind the scroll wheel but I never change it in-game so it's cool.
 
What mouse's wheel does the one on the G500 most resemble?

I should've returned my G5 the moment I realized I didn't like the wheel, but I never did. I find it impossible to press it down as a button without scrolling one direction or the other. My deceased MX510 was perfect. I find the MX Revolution too sensitive as well.
 
Have anyone compared the Logitech G500 with Coolermaster Sentinel? Which is more comfortable?
 
can a LOW SENS fps gamer please give me a comparison to an mx518 / ie 3.0

i am interested in this mouse, but only if it performs as well as a 518 / 3.0
 
ie 3.0 / IMO 1.1 / WMO 1.10 iare not that reliable imo, they don't skip on my steelseries SP neither on my zowie G-RF but if i move my hand with a decent amount of speed across 40cm for a 360 it will actually register for 270 degree turn or less, that is with 250hz, you don't need more for old MS mice according to sujoy's test.

mx518 on the other hand is VERY reliable at 400/800dpi, i was using a 60cm/360 sens for months with no problems to report ( except kinda uncomfortable shape for my hands and slightly annoying prediction -> http://hardware.gotfrag.com/portal/forums/thread/306678/ )

Weird that apparently no one in the whole world have ever tested both Logitech G500 and Coolermaster Sentinel, i have been searching the net like mad but haven't found anything..
 
Whats the texture like on the side of the G500? I like the "rough" feel of the g9 precision grip, or is it more rubbery?

It's rough plastic not rubbery. The top surface is similar but slightly smoother, though not slick like the MX510 or MX518. Pretty much the same as the G5.
 
Ordered up the G500, cancelled my order for the Razer Deathadder 3500. Feels like the right choice. Still ordered a Razer Megasoma though, that mousepad looks killer.
 
Can someone with a G500 help me with a problem I am having?

Of the three buttons for your thumb, the one in the middle cannot be assigned to key bindings is pretty much every game I have played. I am pretty sure I installed the drivers for this mouse. Is there anything else I need to do in order to get that button working properly?

The game will not recognize it as a button. You will have to program it in Setpoint as a keystroke or something. You can have setpoint recognize the game you want to set it to so it has that keystroke just in that game.
 
After a month of forcing myself to use the G500 (wasn't about to let $80 go to waste over a few nitpicks) I believe I have finally become accustomed to the feel of the mouse. The textured grip no longer bothers me, and the mouse now feels even more comfortable than the MX518.
 
I just picked this mouse up after I lost the blue-tooth adapter for my MX Revolution. It's really, really responsive. I particulary like the additional weights supplied; it adds a measured degree of precision. I realize the weights are 2nd gen, but it's the first time I've bought a mouse with them being supplied.

I also like the rough/non-slick texture. I have naturally sweaty palms, so it's nice to have that... 'feeling' like my mouse isn't going to slide out under my hand. All in all, I'm quite please with it. Doesn't hurt I had a 12% discount on one item, but yea. Well worth it; espcially with Dragon Age coming out tomorrow... I have a feeling I'm going to be spending some serious time attached to that peripheral for a few weeks ;)
 
for those with the g500 how does the position of the laser affect your movement? i notice the laser is pretty far forward instead of the center like most mice and that can mess up horizontal movement.
 
I just bought this at BB and noticed too that there is play in the left and right buttons.
Could you all verify this? My G5s click when you press the buttons. This G500 has movement before the click - making MORE effort to click the left/right buttons than on the G5. And like someone else posted, it's worse in the right button.

Also, mine didn't come with any software. Had to go on Logi's site to get the Setpoint for this mouse and it didn't recognize my G500 at all. Read you have to uninstall all Setpoints and run a driver cleaner. Bah not gonna bother if the mouse buttons are like they are.

So unless I hear that the play in the buttons is a fluke, it's going back to BB. Could you all verify this today for me? Thanks.

There is a separate and distinct SetPoint for the G500, and 1 or 2 other mice; you can't interchange these SetPont's any more. They are changing the internal structure of the mice to accommodate internal memory, etc.
 
I appreciate the reply about the Setpoint software, but the major issue is the left and right mouse buttons. You're telling me that only one other guy on this entire forum has noticed this issue?

It's already gone back to BestBuy. If I hear it's a fluke maybe I'll pick one up again.

Could all owners of a G500 on this forum tell me whether the left right buttons of your mouse click instantly when pressed or is there play in them before click?
 
The increase sensitivity button on my G5 v2 stopped working a few days ago (I used it for switching tabs in firefox). So I called up logitech and they sent me a new one. I should get it tomorrow. Looking at pictures of it, I'm not a big fan of the button placement but maybe that'll change once I actually get to try it out in person.
 
Thanks guys! Good to know mine was a fluke. I've already taken it back, but will consider getting it again. (I only got my G5s a few months ago, still much enjoying them.)

The brief period I used the G500, I didn't mind the button placement. I personally pick a dpi setting and stick with it. So for me, moving those buttons really didn't add anything. I did read complaints about the extra thumb buttons... that in the throws of intense gaming, it was hard to press the correct one. Maybe. Under normal WoW play, I could hit each button without any problem.
 
I got my new G500 mouse in yesterday, and it's working great, except I hear a rattling sound coming from inside the mouse when I move it around or shake it a bit.

Is this normal or did something come loose. I have this with or without the weight cartridge and when holding all the buttons and scroll to prevent those from moving.

There is also a very high frequency sound coming from it when I hold my ear against it... now this is a new thing for my with a mouse, haha.

Anyone else has this problem? Or can anyone confirm if shaking the mouse produces any sound or not?
 
Nope I just shook mine and I dont have that problem. Just take it back if you can and get a replacement.
