It's a necessary evil in order to make money.
He's had too much and sneaked several ads in his videos. I hate ads in the middle of something. This is why I refuse anything TV.

It's great that Linus has done so well. I remember watching his Logitech G13 video and thinking this kid is just hanging out in his living room making youtube unboxing videos, hell I could do that. And yeah, look at him now.
Ahhh I was scrolling too fast and missed the fact that the 2nd pic was the one from eBay posting. Wow!
Sigh..had my hopes up..
"I'm retiring just kidding" is just the latest YouTuber meta. Pewdiepie did it a few weeks ago but he wasn't the first. Everyone with a decent size channel is running this gimmick. Idiocy always comes in waves.more hype to his channel, publicity
doubtful on PR stunt, but who knows, if intentional sure is effective i bet

Maybe I'm missing something here but... why does anyone on this site care? If you're [H]ard you passed the "LTT" level a LONG time ago.
He's got a purpose, but that purpose is mostly teaching fortnite players which mouse his sponsor told him to promote. I've watched a handful of his videos and EVERY time I was left thinking that he really doesn't really know what he's talking about - not saying he's talking BS, just feels like he's probably got staff who know what they're talking about (and who told him what to say) but HE isn't talking like he understands it. Like someone working at Best Buy - they've been told by Monster how to sell that cable, but it just rings false in the store.
I'm not a fan of Pewdiepie but I'm going to have to defend him here. He just said he was going to take a break for a couple of months and then the idiots in the media went wild with clickbait articles. Pewds did nothing wrong.
Same diff. Taking a break, not taking a break,
the circlejerking end result is the same. Dude is savvy enough to know it would cause overreaction for clicks.
Wait... explain to me how the video title "I've been thinking of retiring" is what he's "supposed to do" when he's taking a vacation... I mean I'm really struggling here - what else could he have done?! And don't give me some obvious answer like drop a video with the title "I'm going on vacation - see you in 2 months"... that would just be... logical? What is he supposed to do? Just up and disappear for two months without saying anything and leave his millions of fans wondering what happened? That would be a bigger shitstorm and you'd probably accuse him of something stupid for doing that too

please read carefullyWhat PR stunt or hype? The video title is completely honest. He has thought about retiring and he explains why in the video and what he's currently feeling. The only people who thought he was retiring were the people that didn't actually watch the video and instantly jumped to conclusions. If you, you know, WATCH THE VIDEO you can see why it's titled as such and it makes it pretty clear that there's no act or anything being put on. It's very real, very raw, emotion.

i very clearly articulated that "doubtful", plus why sohuld we be sympathetic for an individual who's clearly successful? he's not dealing with a situation anywhere near the gravity of UFD Tech with his Son's profound illness. i'm not at all sympathetic for Linus getting emotional. That helps nobody

That was a long video that amounted to rambling, Linus does this type of thing at times. He should learn to have better PR in this particular aspect imo. This industry (as mentioned above) overreacts to everything.
All he needed to do was post a 5 min video stating clear goals and intent. I’m not watching someone ramble for half an hour trying to figure out what they want to say.
i'll believe it when it happens.. he did a stream talking about it last year and the year before that and surprise, he hasn't given Alex, Anthony, or James any more solo video's then what they've always done every year.. why? because their sponsors refuse to sponsor video's that linus isn't in and until he tells them to piss off or deal with who ever is making the video nothing will change.
You're expecting a guy that is clearly in a very emotional state to make clear, concise, and logical choices in an off the cuff livestream?
Yes, he runs a business not a reaction channel. At 10 million subscribers with the hundreds of sponsors, business partners, etc. releasing off the cuff rambling/emotional videos about retirement, time off, etc. needs to be handled with some care.
It was obviously done wrong if 80% of the customer base/viewership thought he was retiring. He has been very careful in other aspects like the multiple you tubers whom got caught up in whatever the latest outrage that happened.
I’m not saying he shouldn’t post personal videos thanking everyone like he tried to do here in general. But the messaging was terribly muddled along iirc the title.
It really wasn't though. He was pretty clear. The problem is people didn't watch the whole video. That's not really his fault.
Half the stuff he talks about he honestly doesn't have a clue on. This is very apparent when he starts getting into the enterprise world of equipment.
