Ah, yes!! I can see that with the LG here. It's like they tried to make the screen a cross between glare and non-glare. Maybe they wanted to have that extra pop that glare screens give, without the harsh reflection. I brought it into work, and it's clear to see the difference between this and the 19" samsung sitting beside it. I couldn't see a difference at all when I was at home with them in my darker basement. Interesting...

Jim R - just a quick question. It seems that you would recommend the LG as long as you plan on using it as a PC monitor to play games and such. Is that your recommendation?

Well, that's what I was thinking... Only I just realized that I made an error on the LG, and corrected it on my review, as well. It seems you can only use Full and 1:1 mode while a PC is plugged into it. I just set the monitor up at work, and that's the only options it will give me, even if I put it in Video mode. If you run at native res, or a widescreen res, then I'll say the LG is a good unit. If you run the PC in 1024x768 or 1280x1024 for games or something, then it's only good if you have a video card with a driver that will scale for you. *sigh*

But, remember, some of the stuff on my review is personal preference, so I don't want anyone yelling at me later. *grin*

    Hello all,

I have been reading so much on these monitors. I plan to buy next month after waiting out the waiting game. I want a 24inch were I could also play Star Craft. This game on my current LCD gets all screwed up because I think the game runs only on low res. Which would be better, this LG or the Benq for that game? Yes, I would also play CoD2 plus 4 when it comes out. I would be using this monitor just for PC use. Money is no concern since I want this to be the right monitor.

I have some questions to ask you. You said the Xbox 360 plays well at 1080i with VGA, but you didn't show any in game screenshots. How does it look? Are the colours all washed out? It's unfortunate that your HD-DVD player didn't work properly on the LG.

One last thing is if you select 1:1 for the dreamcast, xbox, and gamecube, will the screen be really small sine its resolution is around 640x480? If so, how does it look though? Are the colours washed out?

    Thanks!

I just ran a video on the 360, and popped into Geometry wars, and it seemed decent. I didn't get to play really on the 360, but I wasn't seeing any flicker or blocky pixel edges. That's mostly how I was checking. I have it it work now, so I can't hook the 360 up to it again. Sorry man. The colors seemed fine on the Dashboard via component video, btw.

I did actually play some Sonic on the Dreamcast while it was hooked up via VGA. And, as I mentioned, it did stretch it wide. I did try 1:1 also. There is a pic in my review already: http://www.bexox.com/images/LG/LG-VGA1to1.JPG It isn't a great shot, but it was clear, just very tiny. I don't think I'd want to play any 640x480 games via VGA.

I didn't hook the the xbox or gamecube up, as it was already like 2am and I had work the next day. If hooked up via component video, those consoles should be able to use Original mode, just like the 360, and scale up with the correct aspect ration and look decent, as well.

I took the LG to work, as it wasn't too bright, and is very easy on the eyes to stare at for 8 hours a day. Not as many scaling options, but a good PC monitor, and if you only need to keep aspect scaling on component video, then you should be good to go. Later.

Hmmm... I notice that Best Buy only lists the warranty as 1 year for both parts and labor. This contradicts the LG USA service website, which says that all LCD monitor models carry a 3-year SWAP service warranty (they always exchange for a new/refurb monitor, they pay shipping both ways, etc). The future shop website also lists the warranty as 3 years (though granted this is in Canada). Can one of you guys who has this monitor verify whether the manufacturer warranty is 3-years, or if it is only one? I'd be very disappointed if this monitor only comes with a one year warranty, as I've heard LG's service is pretty good on their monitors and I really wouldn't want to pay an extra $100 at Best Buy to extend the warranty to 3 years. :(

Has anyone here figured out which panel the monitor is using? S-PVA or S-IPS?

Does it support 92% colour gamut or it's in the 70%-range like all existing 24" LCDs.

Edit: Also does anyone here know which version of HDMI-in connector the LG is using? HDMI 1.2 or 1.3?

Inputs : D-sub, DVI-D, USB, component video and HDMI

Warranty : 3 Years swap exchange.

I thought it didnt have a DVI connector ?? It says it does not on LG's website,Jims review also said it did not.Does it come in more then three different varities then ? Can some
shed some light on this ?

Edit: its 72% as far as I know.

No, it doesn't have a DVI input, just HDMI. It comes with a DVI-HDMI cable, so I guess some stores feel that that's sufficient enough to advertise that the monitor supports DVI. Also, the color gamut is definitely 72%, as this monitor uses the same panel as the BenQ FP241W.

Just out of curiosity, Manny, which store did you get that info from? Was it in the US or Canada? As I asked above, I really want to know whether Best Buy's listing that the warranty is only 1 year is just a typo or if there's some other reason why it would only be one year from Best Buy but three years from other places (maybe it's different in the US and Canada?). Thanks.

Damn, this LG looks like a great alternative to the Dell 2407. Anyone know of a 20% or 30% off coupon that will work with this?? ;)

If I find one that works it will be time to upgrade from my 22" Westy. :D

I purchased the LG246WP last Thursday at BB for a new computer build. Tonight, while working on the system, I could not verify that this monitor was HDCP compliant from the included materials. At the LG site I was also unable to verify this and ran a comparison between the L246WP and the L226WT-BF. The L226WT-BF showed as HDCP compliant and the L246WP showed as not. I also noted that a comercial 24 inch monitor L245WP-BN is listed as HDCP compliant and as an aside has a S-IPS panel too. I find it difficult to believe that the L246WP is not compliant. Has anyone been able to verify the HDCP compliance?

First off, if this monitor is on sale for $799, you should get it from best buy, its $699.

Second of all, I think any monitor with HDMI is HDCP compliant.

$799 Canadian ;) Just picked one up, the lazy A$$ sales reps were too busy playing games so I had to go to the TV section to find a sales rep, really nice to through away sales comission huh?

Thanks, Manny. I wrote directly to LG to ask; a representative confirmed that ALL of LG's LCD monitors have 3 year warranties in the USA. Specifically, she wrote
So it seems that Best Buy is incorrect here. For the hell of it, I sent an email to Best Buy customer support to see what they have to say. I notice they also list the 22 inch model as only having a 1 year warranty, which I believe is also incorrect (at least, Circuit City also carries this model and they show it having a 3 year warranty).

OK, I have a question about the L245W that I can't find the answer to - is it supported by the forteManager software to control the OSD via the desktop? The only other downsides for me seem to be the two side-mounted USB ports and apparent lack of aspect scaled PC modes. Every other 24" I've considered have the following drawbacks:
Samsung 244T - input lag issue, price
Fujitsu P24-1W - no pivot mode, pricey
Acer (various models) - not sure if they can be controlled from the desktop like I believe the above 2 can
To be honest, I have an LGF900P 19" CRT which is an excellent monitor that takes some beating, but I'd like a bit more screen space and to see DVDs in widescreen...

Checked with LG today to confirm HDCP compliance and they confirmed what ascarytiger said that all monitors with HDMI are HDCP compliant. The rep was not sure if the monitor was HDMI 1.2 or 1.3 but thought it was 1.2. Said that he would get back to me. He also confirmed that the L246WP and the L245WP-BN are basically same monitor and that both have MVA panels not S-IPS panels. The specs on the lg web site for the L245WP-BN showing S-IPS are incorrect. The three year warranty info was in the box from my BB purchase of the L246WP. So far the monitor is great. No dead pixels, no backlight problems or banding. :D

Haven’t installed forteManager yet but will soon, I thought the USB ports on the side would be a problem as I am picky about that too but they are 2” in from the outside and any cables can be routed behind the monitor no problem. I even have a USB receiver plugged in and its totally hidden from the front view. I am actually rather pleased with this monitor so far!

I originally bought the lg 226wt and enjoyed it but had to ship it back to ncix due to about 4 or 5 dead pixels. The lg226wa went on sale at futureushop so I went and picked one of those bad boys up. It was ok but the images just werent as good as the wt and i got tired of the narrow viewing angles after awhile. I splurged and picked up a 246wp and i'm very impressed. Very little ghosting , sharp images, huge size, the viewing angles are very good since it is an mva panel so it will work quite well as a tv. I was wondering if anyone had a chance to properly calibrate one of these bad boys yet ....... I can't seem to get the settings jusssst right.

so the coating on the screen of this LCD is like in NEC 20? This mirrorish thing that is reflecting everything?

So it comes with the forteManager software? It's not listed as one of the supported models on the LG site or mentioned in the manual for the L245W, but it's a feature I need. As for the USB ports, it sounds like they'll be OK if you route the cables like you said - however, does it impede swivel and pivot in any way?

I don't believe this monitor has forte manager. The coating on it isn't that bad and is only noticeable from certain angles and if light sources are on a bad angle and shining directly on the screen.

I should have a full review next week on the LG 24 inch LCD. I have finals this week. If I bought this monitor, there would be no way I would get any studying in. So I hope to have my unit by the weekend(Last final is thrusday and I think this will be my reward this quater;) ) Then some time next week post a review and try to help others to awnser questions. My tests will consist of DVD's, HD Content from trailers in 720P and 1080P, XBOX 360 using the componet and VGA, PS2, and a varierty of PC games like FPS, RTS, and a simulator or two. Eveything will be tested in native res on the PC side as I have the computer to drive native res and still provide full details.

Thing is, if you look on their site they mention forteManager all over it. It would be pretty dumb for the L245WP (or L246WP which seems to be identical) to not be compatible, but there's nary a mention of it. You can download forteManager V2.73 here: http://www.lge.com/products/sidemenu/list/lcd%20monitor_PRD|DWN_down|list.jhtml, so if anyone has tried using it please let me know their results

So far ok monitor as far as LCD's go..

The only problem I'm having so far is the monitor will not come out of standby-power saving mode when the PC is turned on. I have to press the power button off/on. It will not come out off standby mode even when the PC is on but has powered down the monitor, moving the mouse-pressing keys does nothing. If I can't figure it out soon it's going back to the store. for 800.00 bucks a monitor should be next to perfect imo.

I had the same problem but when I hit the spacebar it recovers fine. Fortemanager works on this, I had to do a fresh OS install for other reasons but have managed to play around with the monitor a bit, need to work on dialing in the colors still. concerning the USB ports when rotating, the ports are on top when in portrait position and I have no problems with the cables. HDMI works perfectly with this monitor!

I have one stuck pixel colored red centered on the screen which bugs me a bit and noticed that the screen has clouds on mine top right and bottom left corners while the top center of the screen remains black, the clouds only show up on a blank screen though, my brightness is set at 50.

I decided to exchange the monitor and I liked the way LG customer service handled the call. Saying if there is a problem we will exchange it. Well the store warrantee is still in effect ( 30 days in store) so I returned it to Future Shop and picked up a perfect monitor, and got a price match to boot. NCIX has the L246W on sale now for $779.98 CDN
