Let's Talk about Hackers

What amazes me is how easy hacking is for people to crack every game. Do anything they want in a matter of weeks. Truly smart people out their wasting their time with kiddy shit when they could be doing incredible things for man kind(The people creating the hacks).

while it takes some skill to make these things, it's not exactly rocket science either. Most of these 'tools' just look for variables in memory and change them on the fly. I'm sure most of these authors are in the programming and/or computer science field already (or going to school for it).

Yeah, right. Like I am going to trust my Social Security number and other personal info to a company that is going to give access to any and all game companies to said info.

At the rate companies are being hacked in today's society that kind of access is just asking for a massive identity theft problem.

I never said your social security number would be available to all these companies, only one gets it, RealID, like I noted ignorant fear mongering will never allow us to get over this, but sooner or later for various reasons everyone realizes that you must give up you personal information to numerous sources on the web. I find it funny so many people are so against having a system that could legitimately make tons of the time we spend on the web much better, but they will happily give hand over all their info to sony any any day only to lose it.

Your employer who may not even have an online presence can get hacked just as easily. And they have all your personal info.

I'm with most people on here. While I pretty much hate people who hack the games and make it unpleasant for the rest of us... the ideas suggested in the OP are ridiculous. If these steps are taken, then I would go to say they'll have 3 MAFIAAs.

I think disabling their ability to play on that game's online is fair enough. Only times that doesn't really work is when it's a free game that can have millions of accounts per person. But if not, then it works more than fine, just needs people to uphold it properly. Like Mav96 said, not a lot of admins actually care enough to do anything or use hacks themselves.

After years of playing games fairly and never using a hack or a expliot I feel like the
gaming industry needs to do something serious about hackers.
I would like to see what you all think about hackers and how can we put a stop or
minimize the amount of Hackers.
They are in every single game , but I want to talk about Multiplayer games were we
are affected the most.

I play with Soc-Squad.com and we have spoken about this topic alot lately since it's really getting out of hand. These are some of the ideas we came up with and please tell me what you think and through in your own ideas.

1 - Steam accounts should be required to play multiplayer games with a minumin of $100.00 of games. If you are caught hacking in any game your steam account is taken away with all the games.

2. Hardware killing. Currently If you are cought hacking with Xbox 360, your console is disabled and you need to purchase a new console. So for PC , lets disable your Video Card perm and you will need to go out and get a new Video Card.

3. Pass a Law to make it illegal and you will need to register with some type of Gov/State Website before you can play online. If you are cough hacking the state sends you a bill like an ticket that must be paid to the state if its not paid you can lose driving privilages and so forth.

4. My Idea - The Middle Eastern way - Cut your hand if you are caught hacking.

I would be willing to put any of these into effect cause I never hack EVER or glitch or any exploits that is going to give me an unfair advantage over another player.

Hacking is out of hand and I think we need a pretty drastic move to minimize their use.
I

Dude... lay off the bath salts for awhile.

As a competitive gamer, I'm a big fan of # 4. It does not address the Psychology of why people cheat in games. Cheaters generally suck balls in gaming ( sometimes even with the hack LOL) and they often have huge egos.

I got so pissed off at Rockstar / the cheaters in "Max Payne 3" that I wrote a letter to Rockstar, telling them that if Valve could produce an almost 100% hacker-free game like Team Fortress 2 then why can't they do the same?

They came up with an amusing solution: hackers were quarantined and forced to play with other hackers.

http://www.rockstargames.com/newswire/article/35441/taking-aim-at-cheaters-in-max-payne-3.html

Self policing doesn't work well, compared to anti-cheat software. Steam bans would be good.

Grammar and spelling ownage.

Why are you all afraid of these measures if you dont hack???

Because your measures are idiotic, stupid, and just downright the sign of someone who is more frustrated then thinking logically. The slippery slope that you aren't thinking of is what is the next step...how about spammers, or about online threats or bullying. What are you going to do with them? Remove internet access, death penalty, what? How will you prove who is guilty and innocent.

Your plans, if at all serious, will cause legal pileups, congestion, and frustration for the whole system. The easiest thing for politicians to do, if you wish to bring them in, is to remove the ability to game period and make sure everyone has a college level education because it is quite obvious people aren't able to think rationally or coherently and it has now become their job to make sure the population is educated the way they feel is best for society.

So just to reiterate. There is no logical way you can be serious about your ideas. They are moronic on every level that you are either a complete imbecile or you are just a forum troll. Perhaps both, but your ideas have little to no thought behind them nor have you considered the long term ramifications of your proposals and are just concerned with the short term immediate gratification you would get from it.

irrelevant. 0/10. go troll elsewhere.

a good solution.
if a certain person is reported so many times, an investigation should begin on that person from the games publisher/developer.

i do agree though if your caught hacking on say steam or origin, your whole account should be banned.
and you should lose all your games.

i find it ridiculous that these "pay for hack" websites are allowed to exist
and not even just exist but are advertising on youtube and other sites.

i would put the name of the site, just because its a good laught to watch their ads and read the forums
but i dont know if id be banned from this forum for posting it.

so here is a quote from their forum
120.00 for the membership plus aimbot and all the support from leet and the crew at "this was the name of the site" is DEFINATELY worth the price of admission.
Being in the IT field myself, it is very obvious to me that there is a TON of thought and effort put into this. It is well executed for a bunch of folks who have day jobs, families, angry girlfriends/wifes....whatever as well. My hat's off to you all!
Keep up the great work!

ive never hacked, other then diablo 2 map hack. but who didnt use maphack in d2?
although is seems now a days 9/10 people being called a hacker really aren't hacking.

for example i can't play crysis 2 multiplayer because i always get vote kicked for "hacking"

5. Hacker should be held at gunpoint and required to insert one of his hands into a garbage disposal. The other hand shall be used to turn on the switch for the garbage disposal system, to unzip his pants and place his penis into a meat grinder and operate said grinder, and to douse himself in gasoline and light a match...but only after inserting a hand grenade into his anus and pulling the pin.

Seems about as reasonable as any of the OP's ideas.

Speaking of more people calling me a hacker. Hell bound soldiers.. anyone heard of that clan? Pretty scrubby and thought I was walling in CoD.. LOL.

Edit: here is a link to the scrubby clans website: http://www.hellboundsoldiers.org/

What a bunch of crocks. Played a game of FFA, 7 of them in there, and calling me a waller cause I know where people typically hide in certain maps. Too funny. I saved the video cause this one guy from HBS was getting so butt hurt.

Currently every MP game is flooded with hackers, its just the reality of the times. Private servers or single player people.

What about those who hack the planet?

The ratio of "hackers" to "network smoothing winners" and "betmore knowlegable players" is probably more than 1:1. You can get accused of "hacking" for using "the wrong weapon" (usually anti tank against infantry...or when you shoot people through cover). When people aren't as good as the opposition they usuallly claim that it's some unfair advantage...and more often than not, it probably isn't (plus games like Quake have whole "pro gameplay" things based off glitches...).

its really not that bad...
i rarely come across hackers

same here, I dunno how this people see hackers everywhere.

I mean, I definitely have come across some for very obvious reasons but when its not obvious I dont call people out.

You need to keep in mind that most people who cheat actually do it subtly because they want to give the impression that they actually playing at a high skill level. Of knowing this it also does than contribute to the paranoia that everyone is somehow hacking if they get the better of you. People who are actually running around with aimbot fully on and headshotting everyone across the map instantly or other extremely obvious hacks are just doing it to grief other players than actually trying to cheat.

Hack development itself is actually an industry. Even for a relatively unknown game like Red Orchestra 2 on the first day of launch there was already someone in the servers advertising and showcasing their hack for sale for example.

so how are people so well trained that they can call a hacker out vs someone who is really good?
Oh that is right, they are not because like you said, a good hacker can probably go so subtle that no one will dected that he is cheating/aimbot/whatever

Exactly, I regularly get called a hacker and I'm not even that good in BLOPS 2. Some idiot said he'd beat me 1v1 in CoD, and I was like CoD is so casual it means nothing. I'd much rather 1v1 in CS.

I think it depends on the game you play, it makes a huge difference. Some games just invite hacking because there are more motivations than usual to hack. BF3 is a great example and the hacking was worse than I have ever seen it in any game in BF3.

They have progression which is directly the result of performance, Kill X people unlock this, so the fastest way to progress which would give you upgrades that would make you even better was to well use an aimbot and just kill like crazy. On top of that it was a client side game in too many way, giving hackers alot of tools that would not work. All of this is on top of the typical problem with realistic shooters where the only skill that determines winners and losers is aim. So in BF3 you either aim well and win or you dont and you lose, its no surprise some people who cant aim well just decide to cheat. Next up the speed of killing, the first shot is critical in any realistic shooter because in most cases the first shot wins the fight, so having a wall hack or aim bot that gets you that first shot is just all that much more critical.

If you play BF3 you wont beat a decent hacker, unless you are one of the best players in the world.

Now contrast that to a game with a low hacking incedent like tribes ascend, lots of projectile weapons which not even an aimbot can perfectly predict. Once you know if someone is hacking you change up your flight pattern and their bot falls apart. your progress has a performance component but that is only about 25% in a perfectly ideal situation which does not exist it could be 50%. So why risk losing your whole account when the vast majority of your unlocks just plain come with time. Team element allows for players to succeed without directly killing, so even if you have bad ping, or you aim terrible there are other jobs you can do to help the team.

If I learned one thing from this its that leveling up and progression, which I hate, can be done very poorly and encourage cheating, or done very well and discourage cheating. Hopefully more games in the future will try to discourage it. All the problems with realistic shooters, realistically cannot be solved its just the reality of that genre and if you play in it you just have to accept a level of cheating that is higher than normal because of it. IMO this means that companies that make realistic shooters need to focus on the few things they can change, like the progression system, and not making moronic moves like client side hit detection.

Having a cost associated with hacking such as losing your account is good but now days it is common for hackers to already be paying for hacks, for this reason cheat makers are more prevelant than ever they can actually become millionaires making cheats. People are dropping $20 a pop for cheats for games like BF3, given it sold millions of copies it seems very reasonable that 10s of thousands of people paid for cheats. If they get their account canned they will make a new one, buy the game again and come back and cheat to level right back up to turd kernel.,

The fact that people care enough to cheat often means they are motivated enough to pay for new copies of games. This is interesting because people like to blame F2P for cheating, which sure it can allow for people to test them and such, but it can also fight it, for instance in tribes players under level 10 can hardly play with higher level players, and if there are alot of cheaters there alot of them are getting banned before they can get up to the higher levels.

What's a waller?

What's a waller?

someone using wall hack

@OP turn 16 and you might realize how stupid this is.

also, this might blow your mind... apply your logic to any other public "problem" and you're still nuts. for example, graffiti

I think many people think of hacks as mostly aimbots or wallhacks but really there are much more subtle methods. For example back with CS people would do things like white wall (basically solid colors for all surfaces) and/or ESP and/or other cheats that applied modifications to player models visually. Basically this makes it so player models have a very high contrast with their background. This conveys a rather large advantage in how fast you react and notice someone. As you can imagine this would be near impossible to discern from whether or not someone just legitimately had higher reactions times and better perception naturally. I haven't really looked into whats available for more modern games but I would think something like this would be an even larger advantage today as graphic fidelity has gone up immensely and thus background "noise." It is rather common for people to turn down graphics effects to lower "noise" if they want to be ultra competitive, well doing something like this has a much larger similar effect.

Using an example with BF3 let say someone used a hack that removed the suppression effect (I don't know if this actually exists), something like this would give an advantage yet be extremely difficult to discern. Someone doesn't have to be usually something more overt like aimbots or wallhacks to be cheating.

so how are people so well trained that they can call a hacker out vs someone who is really good?
Oh that is right, they are not because like you said, a good hacker can probably go so subtle that no one will dected that he is cheating/aimbot/whatever

Just because it is unnoticed however does not mean it is not occurring.

Really though if you are dead set to never run into hackers then play privately or solo. Otherwise don't worry about it too much and try to enjoy the games yourself for what they are. Personally for instance I don't play public games competitively in any serious way, I find the concept somewhat silly for myself, so it doesn't really bother me what other random people are doing in general.

You know, it's been a while since I've played multplayer... I'm guessing Wallhack is seeing through walls or shooting through them? Last hack I ran into was rampant in APB, and that was autoaim so I quit. Not to mention all the griefing that you couldn't do anything to because they weren't part of your mission. Ugh. And the car piling to block your objectives....

Anywho... It's really too bad that hacks aren't better managed as APB was really awesome before the Hacking went rampant, but OP's still stupid.

I been around the [H] community long enough that once we get through all the

Egotistic/post to post/add my 2 cents/Grammar whores...etc we can actually have a discussion about the topic at hand.

There are some peeps with some really good ideas and of course thats what these are ideas.
Most good ideas are not accepted at first, until implemented and some good comes out of them.

I have played Pro and guess what peeps hack there too.
There is not a single MP out there with out hacks and its getting worst.

So for peeps saying that they dont see it...well your blind my friend..
Let me enlightedn you - http://www.ilikecheats.com/
Thats just one of the many sites that allow you access to cheats in MP mode.

I work alot and the little time I have to play I would like to enjoy it with fair players
thats why I purchased the game. I didnt purchase my property to play with fucking hackers period.
Yeah its your property and so its your car, but there are laws that say you can't go over the speed limit, that you need insurance/ you cant go run peopple over with it... etc

Steam already has all your CC info and name and address.. they could hack those servers.

I have played in private servers and community only servers , but its get boring I want to own
other noobs as well. So hacking is out of hand and so its the gaming industry.

Video Games MP needs to be regulated and some serious consequences needs to be applied or else every fuckign retard with fingers and PC can hack.
I know alot of people in the gaming community and every one is feed up already. You can't enjoy the MP part of the game you paid for...thats my point.

I didn't read through this thread, but I like Steam's VAC system where if you get caught cheating they just perma-ban you from the game. That seems like a good enough punishment since some people will spend $60 on a game, only to never play the multiplayer mode ever again.

most hacks are untracable...
Now if steam would ban the entire account and you need to purchase your entire
library.. we can cut down on the amount of hackers by A SHIT LOAD!!!

Wouldn't they just make 1 account per multiplayer game?

Even if Steam did magically decide to implement that idea, there would still be the problem of false positives. Anti-virus programs are a good example of this.

So if a user installs a mod thinking that it's all good, only to find out that it's blacklisted and loses the entire Steam account of $1,000 games, lawsuits will fly.

Well the account would need to have over $100.00 in games to be be able to play
on MP servers. there could also be a different server for peeps that dont want to put up their
account because they want to hack.

The way punkbuster works now , it takes Screen Shots of your game. So you can see a hacker if you can see his screen. The issues is looking over all those pics.
Its not a perfect system and thats what we are trying to discuss.

You guys speak of Lawsuits, but dont realize that you most likely have entered already in a Mandatory Arbitration..
check out your Bank contracts/online account...etc
Meaning that you already cant sue for shit.. why should this be different.

Again the system is not perfect, but there is a way my friend..

Those weren't ideas, those were chunks of poo stuck to the side of the toilet.

I don't really understand the car analogy either. I don't think I'll get my arm lopped off or lose my vehicle itself if I go over the speed limit.

The fact is that hackers will always be out there. If you ban an account they can just purchase another game and start right over, as if they care, mommy and daddy can just purchase another copy in seconds for them. That, or let's start to see some IP banning.

You dont lose you vehicle, but you pay a fine!
The more expensive it becomes , the less likely you will do it again.

Also for MOD's... you guys have heard of unranked servers right????

Also IP bands dont work.. VPN's or Proxys can take care of that!
