For weeks now I have been trying to "register" for my rebate on SOYO's rebate website, www.verifyrebate.com. For the longest damn time the SY-P4I865PE DRAGON v1.0 didn't even appear under the board choices. (imo, this board was a disgrace to the "DRAGON" moniker SOYO used to have. I think the O now stands for Onboard, as in "Damnit, Raid, Audio and Graphics are Onboard like Network")

So now the board finally appears under the choice and I select the date I bought the board, September 03, 04. It says it can't find a rebate for that time. Whatever the hell ever. . .

SOYO better not screw us or I'll hold TEH EGG responsible because it was a "Newegg only" rebate, hense I bet newegg got some kickbacks.

I don't even know if its worth fighting for really.. I havn't decided if im going to persue my $70 or so back.

Maybe I am the only "poor" person here, but $70 would at least qualify a few phone calls.

If something happens and SOYO screws us, I'll be very upset. $70 is a LOT to a college student. I did eBay the board for around $60 (I got so much back because the dude was from Canada and REALLY wanted this board) so in essence, I'm not really "out" anything but I'm still ANGRY. I want my $70.

I sent my Dragon KT600 Ultra 110$ rebate in two months ago and it still doesn't show up. I'm with you, if it doesn't come back I'm going to make a lot of trouble.

Me too. I got one of the 865PE's from Newegg too. From what I've been hearing, it's taking about 6 months for people to get rebates from Soyo which really sucks.

If you ever visit bensbargians they will all tell you that SOYO and Tiger Direct never pay rebates. SOYO is pulling (or has pulled) out of the MB business.

Soyo has (in the past anyway) made some pretty crappy motherboards. I bought one a few years (P2 days) back for a friend of a friends computer I was building. It didn't last 6 months before it just died for no reason. First and last Soyo that I ever bought. No wonder that have quit selling boards under the Soyo name. Sorry to hear about your rebate woes. :(

If Soyo screws me from the rebates I will make it my personal mission to DESTROY this company. Soyo has sold so many motherboards via Newegg, Mwave, and MicroCenter by using this FAR method. If they don't pay out, they will have then defrauded thousands of people. Many state attorney generals will be after their ass and you can bet all the nerds ripped off by Soyo will band together to use their collective powers of retribution.

I predict Soyo USA will fold in less than 6 months. There will be nothing left to destroy.

They dug themselves into this deep hole with desperation rebates, are historically slow in paying ANY rebates much less the massive scale that's happened in the last couple of months.

I've been saying this is another cyberrebate fiasco in the past couple of Soyo "deal" threads. Overpriced items with huge rebates = many people burned. How can anyone think that was sustainable?

Post a link.. I have a friend that is planning on buying a combo from TigerDirect with rebates and I want to let him know.

Newegg can give me $70 GC and I'll be just as happy. . .

SOMEONE is going to give me SOMETHING for those rebates, and not a kick in the ass either.

i think you are all prematurely bitching. the rebates stated 12-14 weeks from the date of latest possible submition. thats makes late dec. or jan.
hold your horses

Same thing happened to me and lit... your wrong we can't even submit it so how shoud we expect ro receive it in 12-14 weeks?

Yeah, who the hell registers for a rebate? That's just ONE additional step they can say you fucked up on to deny you your rebate.

I'm TRYING to do this the LEGAL, CORRECT and HONEST way. I can't expect 12-14 weeks if SOYO hasn't gotten my registration for a rebate!

I sent mine in for RMA. UPS showes it as delivered but the RMA was voided after 30 days because they had not recieved it.

I didnt even bother sending my rebate in. It was a friend's computer and $70 wasn't too bad a price to begin with.

after I read about the hassles (post purchase), I put the whole idea aside.

my loss.

I bought a case from Tigerdirect with a $30 rebate. It took forever for it to come through, but it did in the end, took 5 months though. Their rebate site onrebate.com now offers rebate payment via paypal which should speed things up (in theory).

How quickly does onrebate.com show arrival of rebate info? I have an outstanding rebate that the UPC and information was sent on 11/8 but they are still showing "Awaiting information"

Soyo has been, and probably always will be, one of the WORST mobo makers ever. I still have a board of theirs that the keyboard connector died after 2 days, and they refused to RMA it.

I got the SY-P4I865PE Plus Dragon 2 v. 1.0 from Newegg that was FAR. This is my first Soyo board (and my last). Everything seemed to be fine with it at first. But now, when I first turn on my computer, it powers on for a couple seconds, then completely shuts off for about 3 seconds, and then powers back on. I know it's not my power supply because I've tried 2 different ones with it, and still the same problem. It doesn't happen with every boot up, but still is going on.

2004-11-30 09:30:10 Units Received/Processing
2004-11-30 09:29:37 Reopened
Notes: customer sent in after 30 days

Well thats good news. To bad UPS delivered it with a week to go in the RMA window.

I stayed away from the Soyo / MIR deals because it's all over the web how bad their company is doing finanically. I believe (someone correct me if I'm wrong) they declared, or are expected to delcare, bankruptcy protection. If they declare that, you can definitely kiss all thos MIRs goodbye.

If I were in charge of a company AND I was dishonest (of which, I am neither), it would seem like the perfect scheme to bring in a burst of money just before going under. Bwahahahahahaha!!!

Do you have any experience in company destroying? If not, I can't imagine Soyo is shaking in their boots. :p

You have to remember that the entire point of offering rebates is that the company simply does not plan to give the full rebate to everyone who purchases the product. They simply can't, or they'd be losing money.

The entire rebate game is about NOT honoring rebates. Companies that handle rebate processing openly admit that they count on the fact that not everyone will send in the rebate, will not have the proper documentation, etc.. What they don't admit so openly is that they are in the business of making money, and every rebate they can deny, lose, or forget about is more money in their pockets. Financially, it's in their best interest to do everything they can to keep you from getting and cashing that rebate check.

Yes, some companies handle rebates more reputably than others - but in the end, the entire game is about NOT giving out money.

That's funny you should mention if I have any experience in company destroying. As a matter of fact, in my own little way, I helped to destoy Easy-To-Buy-PC, aka ezbpc. It was a small company out in City of Industry, California that was peddling barebone computers on eBay that was legit in the early years, thus buiding up a huge positive feedback number, and they used the ensuing trust resulting from a large positive feedback number to rip off hundreds of eBayers later on, never delivering on paid orders. You can check them out, their eBay id is ezbpc. I was ripped off of $200 and so I immedietly called up the credit card company so that they would be aware that ezbpc was fraudulently charging me and made eBay aware of the seller's actions. Those two early actions lead to me getting my money back and eBay eventually delisting them. Then I emailed other eBay buyers who were ripped off by ezbpc and we collectively on our own notified the CA state attorney general office and the FTC. Almost immedietly ezbpc went into banruptcy. A lot of people did not get their money back, but at least ezbpc won't be out there ripping people off anymore. Now Soyo is an even bigger case with many more people being ripped of. There are many more plaintiffs numbering in the thousands . If Soyo hides behind bankrupcy protection, I could see a huge backlash, maybe even a collective suit being filed against the retailers like Newegg, Mwave, and MicroCenter for peddling Soyo products. They have a role in this deception too as they made it look as if Soyo might fulfill their rebate obligations. One po'ed person can indeed make a difference especially if that one person reaches out to other people who have been ripped off in the same way. So yeah, Soyo better keep their shit straight or I am going to destroy them.

I bought a soyo 802.11G router w/ a G card for $150 off of tigerdirect alittle over a year ago. It came with a $100 mail in rebate. 10 months after my rebate was verified by them I emailed them and they told me I would receive it in 10-12 weeks.

They must have forgotten about me and now want to send me my rebate.

Everybody I know who has bought a soyo has ended up unsatisfied...

I guess thats pretty much why I stick to Abit/Asus boards... imho they are >*

So, if I'm reading this right, your definition of destroying a company is to force them into bankruptcy proceedings via various canvasing of information tactics that get consumers and agency officials informed of a company's practices. I fail to see how this method is going to 'destroy' a company you're mad at for hiding behind bankruptcy protection... They'd be bankrupt already and it's not like you're about to make them go double bankrupt.

Also, I don't think you're going to get anyone to say they can't go belly up either. No one is going to go: "Hey, Soyo, you punks! You can't go bankrupt until you pay off your debts!" I think they got rid of that whole debter's prison concept a long time about, about the time they realized prisoners who can't get out of prison until they pay off their debts also can't pay off their debts until they get out of prison.

If Soyo goes under, they go under. The best people can do is file their paperwork, hound them in a polite, non-ranting, manner until either Soyo gives them their rebates or dies. Speculation about the company's future and tirades about beating a dead horse aren't getting anyone money back. Dot your i's, cross your t's, be active until the sky really does fall.

I just bought my first Soyo board from newegg. $35 shipped with no rebates for an IGP9000 board. That should say something about the state of liquidation that Soyo is in. :D

This really sucks. We're all out our money ::throws hands up and gives up::

Not really... but.

Although this is a part of it, it is not the main point of rebates. The way they make money is by using the time value of money. The extra money you spend, they keep for 1 - 2 months and invest it, the money they invest earns money, then you are mailed your rebate. It's entire goal is not to screw over customers.

And a note on the SOYO mobo, I have had no problems with mine at all. It's been put in my server and up for 2 months now.

You have to understand something my little minded friend. When you go after a company that is already on the path to bankruptcy like Soyo is, you are not trying to get them to go "double bankrupt". What you are trying to do is to accelerate their pace towards bankruptcy because otherwise they will go toward bankruptcy very slowing, stringing along many more suckers who will finance their shittly little company for a couple more months via the infusion of rebate money. They could probably prolong the comapany's lifespan by more than a year with this rebate scheme. Their workers and officers will continually be paid and the company will stay afloat, even if the financial fundamentals look very bad. I agree with you totally that if you have already given money to Soyo, it will undoubtedly be very difficult to get it back due to backruptcy protection laws when they do go into bankruptcy. (You will probably be on the very last part of the list on the long list of creditors) When I go after Soyo, it isn't necessarily so I can get my own money back; it is important to go after them now to hasten their bankrupcy so they will stop offering these phoney FAR deals and thus finding new consumers to rip off. Why I even saw Soyo FAR deals as recently as a month and half ago. It is important to stop Soyo now so no more new people will get suckered.

Oh the passion...Oh the self-righteous belief. Have fun "destroying" companys. I understand your frustration and I even applaud your desire to prevent others from being taken in. However in your zealous posts, you come across much more as a "look at me" type pretending as if they have some great power instead of someone actually capable of doing anything.

Try removing the self-promoting hyperbole out of your posts and it might be a more interesting read. Next time do your research and stick with legitimate companys that have a strong reputation instead of chasing bargain prices. You know that saying about quality costing more? Well there tends to be a good reason for that.

Everyone gets screwed out of something in life at sometime. There comes a point where you should realize that whining about it isn't going to help and learn a lesson from that error so it isn't repeated again in the future.

I have a funny feeling that you are the type of person we read about one day who feels they are wronged in some manner by a business or whatever when they truly weren't and ends up being bankrupted by said companys lawyers for libel. On top of that, I truly doubt you have any idea what exactly it would take to destroy a truly large, INTERNATIONAL, corporation.

Enjoy the Crusade and just think...it could be another beer commercial..."Here's to you Mr. Internet Company Destroyer". I'd call Budweiser on your behalf but you'd probably "destroy" them for getting something wrong.

Obviously from what you have written Khem, you are somebody who has not been ripped off by Soyo, or maybe you have, but you take being screwed over in stride as you say, "Everyone gets screwed out of something in life at sometime". I see that you like being bent over and being violated by a "truly large, INTERNATIONAL, corporation". It is quite normal in life to be screwed over sometime, but it is not normal to accept it or to take it lying down. With your attitude, you would be walking kind of funny after Soyo is done with you. Forgive me if I seem "self-promoting" when I mention my successful example of engaging in consumer action after I have been wronged. I just wanted to point out that even one angry consumer can start a meaningful series of events that can lead to the death of an irresponisble company. Granted, Soyo is a much bigger company than ezbpc, but you also have to realize that there are many more plaintiffs in this situation. If we collectively do our part, we will exert a great amount of pressure on Soyo or the government agencies to do something for the consumers and put Soyo in a world of hurt. Giving Soyo a free pass on this sets a dangerous precedent to other electronics companies who might be tempted to engage in the same course of behavior in the future.
You can roll your eyes all you want kid, but the fact is one person can indeed make a difference. Also you might want a read a book about what actually constitutes a "libel" instead of watching Budweiser commercials once in a while.
