Prenups can be and are ignored by judges.

Also they were married long before Amazon was started
 
New tax laws for 2019 also mean that ole Jeffrey doesn't get the tax deduction of alimony payments .. but on the other side.. the alimony is non-taxable ...

That's the only thing I think about. As I go up the business ladder, I will be presented with an opportunity to make more money,
by doing the wrong thing to a long time business partner. It's hard to get that rich in business without stepping on a few toes.

I just hope I'm satisfied where I am before that happens.

I am usually on the men's side when it comes to divorce but not in this case. She fully supported this little beta and encouraged his "dream" to sell books online. She is pretty damn smart herself, and apparently helped quite a bit to get "Amazon" started at the beginning. Guy becomes famous, starts juicing and falls for the first bit of strange he has probably ever had. She needs to bend him over in court. If he is smart he never marries again, but he will probably be married within the year.

Welcome to being married. Don't like it, don't get married (or live with a partner in the same home for 7+ years or get an ironclad prenup before marrying. She deserves half and I doubt he's contesting that.
 
Now she can hang out with Paul Allen's sister, and they can talk about all the hard work and sacrifice they put in to earning their billions.

This is only partly true. He doesn't think it will actually fail, he thinks it will have a massive drop as more competitors enter the market and the fad starts going away. Same with AWS. His strategy is to get in early, move fast, get what capital he can and move on.

To say that Bezos and Gates don't care about making more money is also incorrect. Gates still looks to find ways to make more money as Bezos does. Gates made another $4 Billion this past year. "B"illion.

And btw, Amazon is still making progressive profits year over year.

Both their online sales and their online cloud infrastructure control the large majority of their markets.

What I mean is, Gates doesn't have a desire to be worth 300B. He stepped down to do other things than become substantially richer.
Earning money from being on the board and stock prices going up isn't the same. I would say he's happier now. Jeff looks like he's taking the same route, albeit with his mistress.

It will be really weird if Amazon does a face plant after Wife #1 leaves and we find out she was really the brains of the operation.

True, I would say that neither cares about being worth more than they are now, but they both care very much about making more money. It is what they do with it now that has changed. Also for perspective Bill Gates isn't making all that money off of MS Stocks, he actually owns very little MS stock now, he makes most of his money off of other investments and real estate, like most of the wealthy tend to do.

Who needs a law binding contract to empty your bank account? Common law will do the same thing nowadays even without marriage. So, unless you want kids - it's best to have your own place.

Just a minor nitpick - it's not always gendered as you say. It's actually just the primary earner, whomever that is, gets the shaft. Where I live, the non-earner is entitled to 'maintain their standard of living'. Of course, that usually means the earner no longer will be since most people weren't making enough to support two full copies of their lifestyle.

Yes, I think the assumption is that both parties were contributing to the legal partnership (marriage). That's often a poor assumption in divorces, as a leading cause of divorce is someone being a deadbeat. Right up there with coke and hookers.
