When it comes to buying a high-end handset, I think it's more worthwhile to focus on software than it is on hardware at this point. Most high-end phones are within the same ballpark on the hardware internals front, but where they differ significantly is in software (and, to some extent, build quality). Rather than shopping on spec sheets, go to your local shop and play with different phones until they kick you out. Then put on a fake beard, go back in and play some more.
You can usually get away from Android skins and bloatware if you need to, but best not to bother and know what you're getting into before you take a leap.
