So much for all the conspiracy people. As expected there was a reason beyond "evil Intel"

I don't think you read the same article I did. Intel's answers were horseshit. Improved overclocking? Up to DDR4 2666 speed? "Getting the max out of a 6 core processor"?
And that sure as he'll doesn't explain why you can't use a cheap KBL on a z370 as a "starter chip" for a later upgrade. Had z370 been out last month, that would have been my route since I needed a pc now, but decided to go AM4.
Yet they now plan on releasing an i3 KBLx for the x299...
Intel's answers to the Z370 "problem" make them sound ridiculous like we didn't already know it was a money grab. They wax eloquent about the new power delivery, but even VRM PWM controller manufacturer Richtek had the IMVP8 spec for CFL as late as May 2017 and not changing to IMVP9 until 10nm. New socket to support DDR4 2666? Funny, my "old" Z170 board supported DDR4 3200 without issues.
I'm not denying that. And I have no problem with companies making a profit. But they won't be getting my money this time around because of their lack of backward compatibility. Obviously I'm in the minority in the grand scheme of cpu buyers. Especially with how limited the z370 board is going to be going forward. I might as well wait for the 390 or just go X299.OMG, Intel is a business with shareholders!
WGAF since the 8700K is coming next month and will be the best all around cpu you can buy for gaming?
You cant just make generalizations like that as some games can most certainly take advantage of SMT/HT. Even on the Ryzen 8 core/ 16 thread cpu, Techspot sometimes had better performance in games when using SMT than with it off. With as long as we typically keep cpus then getting the 8700k makes much more long term sense for a higher end build as games will only get more threaded. And also think about how much faster gpus will get during those 4 years we typically keep a cpu.I am thinking the 8600k is going to be the best strictly gaming cpu. SMT is not needed for gaming these days. Maybe in 2 years time well see... consoles are coming out with more and more cores so as they port over the demand for pc cores will increase with time.
We are approaching the limits of moores law and the only way forward is some new radical tech or more cores. 5nm might be the technical limit for electron motion between atoms within a microprocessor as the Bohr Radius of a si atom is 111 pm or 0.111 nm. Of course 5nm might be possible but anything shorter than that and we may encounter quantum issues not sure ... well see.
The Bohr radius of Hydrongen is 5.2nm so once our processes get the transistors on the 5nm scale ... we are already forcing electrons to move between transistors where two of them can be within the boundaries of the electron orbit of a single hydrogen atom. This is some small scale stuff and really pushes the limits of stability on the atomic level. Not stability as far as explosive or anything, just where electrons go between point a and b might get screwy.

Who said anything about HEDT? And I have enough sense to look long term when I buy a cpu so 100 bucks spread out over 4 years of keeping a cpu does not mean squat and lets me get full use out of all current and upcoming games and take full advantage of any gpu upgrade during that time. And AGAIN I am referring to higher end builds not some lower budget build. We are talking abut the best all around gaming cpu... which means money is a factor. Not the best if you have no budget. ANd we are not talking about HEDT.
Of course SMT is always a benefit but for the bulk of people that have a $x budget... they are going to get the best bang for the buck and if it has to be within the Intel world it is going to be the best with out the extra fat on top. Just an opinion.
Like I said .. I have a Threadripper 1950x ... do I need an 8700K hell no. But I am thinking of building one simply for the IPC and to make a dedicated First person shooter machine.
My son can play Minecraft on it when im not using it type thing lol.

Not sure what your problem is. You were the one that said SMT/HT does not matter so I was pointing out that even right now it does help in some games and would make more long term sense if building a high end gaming pc.Good god man you just HAVE to start an argument over retarded semantics. Sorry to trigger your offense mechanism.
But seriously yes you are right ... read my above edit.

He wasn't combative. WTH are you talking about? Are you drunk?

But did you see the MEMES? You can't forget about the MEMES!The so called SKU leaked is a Kaby Lake X I5 ES... Pretty much debunked at this point.
Even if it was real we would see leaked benches by now, which we have none off, seems completely fabricated and false.
Bonus points, people who don't understand TDP in the comments.
It's a consequence of the upvote/downvote system. Only trendy comments have weight, and the truth ain't always trendy. That is the problem with the bubble world of huge open comment sections like reddit and youtube as opposed to a structured forum section. There is no on there to 'kindly' correct them.
I do wonder why they are being tight lipped on turbos and die size.
EDIT:
Wasn't their also a leak a while back stating Coffee lakes die size, if anyone has it can they share it?

I just really hope the price is comparable to the 1700x @ $299.00. $400 is just asking way too damned much when I can get a octo core for less.
Noted, but now that Intel has competition again, why not force them to cut the crap with out wallets?
It was easy for Intel to pull this in the past, but they have real competition so no point in letting them continue.
The are certainly still trying (backward compatibility, 'raid keys', gimped pci-e
Damn, trolling pretty hard are we?
The 8700k will not have any direct competition, so Intel will jack up the price again as always.
It's a nice placeholder with VAT, but it means nothing right now.

That's why Reddit is a breeding ground for fake news, misinformation, and clickbait. About half of the things you see there are misleading or outright false, and the average Redditor is about half as smart as he thinks he is. Anyone who gets their news and information from Meme subreddits even moreso.
WCCFTech and AdoredTV have built their entire businesses thanks to gullible idiots.
I won't argue with a child. Feel free to throw up your fruity pebble charts for the nth time. You seem pretty sad.
The R7 1700/x will compete with the 8700. The extra clocks will more than make up for the IPC advantage.
The 8700k will not have any direct competition, so Intel will jack up the price again as always. Yeah, the 1800x is in the same price range, but most buy the equally capable 1700 series.
