I’ll bet some heads are going to roll in Intel’s ad department after the company was forced to pull a “racially insensitive” print ad. For those of you wondering, this is the ad that sparked the controversy:

The ad, featuring a standing Caucasian man in casual business attire surrounded by six crouching African-American sprinters in a tableau many commenters found racially offensive, was pulled by Intel before publication in North America in all but one entry, a Dell catalog, said an Intel spokesperson.

Haha! I get it! It's because it's a white guy lording over black guys.

Whew! Glad they dodged that bullet!

Wait - Isn't that ad hailing the impressive athletic achievements of African Americans? I mean - If you put 6 white guys down in a running stance it wouldn't be as "athletically impressive". Am I wrong?

Not the best ad but I don't think its discrimination.

The bad:
All the runners are black.
They are all exactly the same. (They are supposed to be though to fit with Intel's other multi-core ads.)
The white guy's expression.
6 sprinters don't really get the point across to me.
The heads of the sprinters are down and not up, it makes them look meeker I guess.

The good:
The men are not bowing, they are getting ready to run.
The white guy is not holding a whip.
There are no watermelons or buckets of chicken in the ad.

They are sprinters right? When was the last time you watched a track and field event that it didnt look like that? A bunch of black guys lined up ready to race w/ the white coach on the sidelines.. :D

One way to look at it I guess.

Yea I agree I don't think it was the intent of whoever came up with it but I can see how some could consider it as racially offensive.

Intel failed to account for the fact that Black Rights groups will complain about everything, anything and never stop. They will look for things that are not there, and plain make crap up. If they had put 6 white sprinters, they would have issued a release saying it is racially discriminatory and if they had mixed it up with white and black they would have complained about something in the order, which ones were at the front, which at the back. Either placement would have some kind of negative connotation. You can't win, just stick by your guns and go with it.

You know, that only works if you recognize them as sprinters; 'cause I gotta say, when I first saw it, it looked like a bunch of black guys bowing to a white guy.

they didnt even look that black to me. i had to look twice really before i saw they were all black guys. but the thing is it could have been any group and someone would have complained: asians, hispanics, fat people, skinny people, gays, lesbians, muslims, jews, catholics, etc. thanks to political correctness nowadays the only group you could get away with doing something like that with is middle aged white guys.

Would it have been better if they had AMD's Systems as White guys slacking behind the intel runners?

I mean do an image search for 100 meter dash olympics or whatever and see what the results give.

I will say, it was badly executed, but its hardly racist, I think people just need to stop nitpicking...

I mean first the whole Black Zombies in R.E now this

Oh shut the fuck up!

are you fucking serious!? this PC shit is really pissing me off.

(no words in this post directed to anyone on this board)

At first glance it does look like they are bowing. The ad was great in threory but was terrible in execution like 99.9% things today.

Intel was a dumbass because they could have easily avoided this entire fiasco.

   INSENSITIVITY!! INSENSITIVITY!! THE ABOVE POST MUST BE PULLED!!

But in all seriousness, I'm absolutely stunned at some people (IE, the "commenters" mentioned in the article) can read racism against minorities into quite literally everything. A white guy is standing and there are six black sprinters crouching? THAT'S INSENSITIVE! White rice is just "white rice", while brown rice is called "wild rice"? THAT'S INSENSITIVE! Cutting up a Thanksgiving turkey and putting the white meat and dark meat on two separate (but equal) plates? THAT'S INSENSITIVE AND RACIST, and how dare that turkey's white meat be healthier than its darker counterparts! Hell, even mother nature is racist; have you ever taken a good look at the sky lately? Everyone loves the nice, fluffy white clouds, but nobody likes the dark clouds since they bring storms and destruction! MOTHER NATURE IS INSENSITIVE AND RACIST!

What's worse is the double standard that many of these same people have. I'll bet that if the guy standing was black and the sprinters were white, you wouldn't hear a peep. Well, maybe you would...since each and every minority wouldn't be represented. We've got to make sure that everyone down to the obese gay handicapped vegan latino community is represented, after all.

How to fix the ad: Four identical black guys (sporting Intel shirts) and two identical white guys in a fight. The black guys kicking the whites asses.

Under the picture: it always helps to have more guys on your team. :p
(So where is AMD's quad core again?)

What the hell? I had to look at it for a minute to figure out wtf was the big deal.. Even then, if I had seen it normally I wouldn't have even thought about it.. Who sits there day in, day out just looking at everything trying to find something potentially wrong about it?

To find something "racially insensitive" means you accept and acknowledge racism.

The world is so politically correct it makes me want to vomit.

Of course this was taken as white man over black man, when JUST AS EASILY it could be taken as athletic black man is genetically superior to loser white man. But because of how scared people have gotten (the biggest racists) we have this "reverse racism". It's a fucking joke. A low-IQ one.

That ad is as racially insensitive as an olympic 100m dash final.

Wow.

You know they could have used a black guy in the center. problem solved.
White people dont normal bitch about rasist stuff like all black guys

This world is so F up its not even funny. cant wait for the day when we breed race out

No, if you put 6 white guys down there it would be racist because there aren't any black people in the ad.

People are too sensitive. There is no way to win this one besides stop putting people in ads altogether.

You have got to be kidding me. This PC shit has gone too far. Ever notice that its fun to make fun of (fill in a non African American race) but if an African American is put in any position which even remotely looks derogatory the NAACP jumps all over it? Anyone ever watch BET? Yea, cause reverse racism is funny while any thing that looks questionable towards African Americans gets deemed racist.

I'm sorry, but the problem with this ad is what again? I see nothing racially insensitive about it. All the participants were there of their free will, I believe. I'm also assuming that they have all been paid for there services. So what's the big deal again?

Actually black people are too sensitive. If the roles were reveresed in the ad, nothing would be said.

Sadly blacks in todays world do nothing but look for anything than can possibly hint of racism and by doing so are making sure that it will always be around. I will even say that blacks are probably more racist than any other race, but that is ok in everyone else mind. I can guarantee you that if it was a black guy standing and white guys on the blocks it would have been just fine.

Wait.....people still think that way? How are we ever going to get over this racial boundary if around every corner someone throws up the "i'm offended" card? It's absolutely ridiculous and we'll never move forward if this continues to be the case.

It's a technology ad with crouching human beings and a guy standing in the middle. Holy jesus, that's so racist!
