Those sharp-eyed folks over at Tech Report caught an Intel mistake in the latest microcode update documents that possibly revealed some ninth-gen CPUs. If you take a look at the picture you will see five i5 9xxx series models mentioned. However, what you won't see is anything about the mythical 8C i7 9xxx models mentioned. I suspect this is for one of two reasons. The 8C doesn't exist or since this list was for Spectre microcode updates, the 8C is already fixed. Pick your poison.
Sadly, this slip of the PostScript pen doesn't confirm or deny the veracity of recent rumors suggesting range-topping Core i9-9900K or Core i7-9700K chips to come. Those parts might rely on as-yet-undocumented 8+2 Coffee Lake silicon, and given that the company has said chips with Spectre mitigations in silicon are coming this year, the 8+2 parts may not require a microcode patch to protect against the vulnerability and therefore wouldn't be in this document.
