i got a question. If im ordering a 9300 and i want built in bluetooth reciever, i.e. i dont need anything to use a mx900 with my laptop, what equipment do i need to add to my order? or is it automatically in the 9300

thanks

dont add it to your order. buy it from parts for $13 instead.

If you add it during build, they want 40. What a rip!

Yeah that, or just call and ask for a free one

BTW, just to add to this thread. There is an error in CPU-Z which has the FSB wrong under the memory tab. Everything is running normal. This is why some proggies are better not used to determine everything as far as how they are running...

I noticed that, too. I was wondering why CPU-Z shows 200MHz (DDR2-400MHz) and all other programs I tried show 266MHz (DDR2-533MHz).

GLSauron: i'm not going to make a separate thread. Everyone knows what a 9300 looks like by now. :p

can anyone tell me a program that will show the ram properly? Everywhere i look its either 200mhz or is vague, saying my ram is capable of running @266mhz but doesn't tell me the speed it IS running at. I tried everest, and that thing just seems to show what the ram's hardware specs are, not what they are running at. Thanks.

Try the bios

Boot from the memtest86+ 1.55 CD and you'll also see the correct memory speed.

Well, it says 533 but doesnt really specify anything. Thats dell tho too, so who knows, they might be lying :p

Thanks. i'll dl and burn that.

2.0
1G
good screen
abg
bluetooth (installed)
60 x 7200
good card
dvd*8
xp pro

$2250 w/ $750 off $1999 coupon

Compared w/ the 2 year old unclocked 2.5 in the .sig should be rocking... desktop replacement me thinks...

Spending that kind of $, can I get something better in the other computer line (XPS GEN 2)?

Or is this a pretty sweet price-point right now...

Same basic set-up but with
6800 go ultra

$2693

Sorry to be noob, but what's going to be the difference?

Thanks

Ultra, thats the biggest difference. After that, its the gigabit networking, and the different looks, as well as External LED's. From there, i don't know that there is much else different. I love my 9300 and wouldn't spend the extra bucks for the XPS2, personally. Check out notebookforums.com for some good info too

Ok, besides the vidcard memory speed.

Anything else for the difference?

I'm reading up as fast as I can...

EDIT: ok thanks. I can't quite see spending the difference for the ultra given the amount of time I'm gaming these days (read: less). Bang/buck seems a little out of whack for my needs / uses / budget.

(the reason I'm moving quickly is a) coupons and b) wife saying, "Well why don't you get one" when I said I need a laptop.

Also, while the 2.0ghz is great, its quite honestly a bit overkill imo. Mine runs at 1.60ghz with the 533FSB and is plenty fast to play all the latest games and programs. This thing really does bench close if not better than the 2.8GHZ P4's that are NOT the M's. The only downside is no HT but then again, the 2.0 doesn't have it either. If you want my advice, unless you're in need of some seriously hardcore processing power, save your money and stick with a lower chip speed as well.

I can crush this down under 1700 by dropping processor down and the display down. Hrm.

Unless you'll be using it outdoors, i recomend going with the wuxga screen. It is bueatiful. Though, some are having lots of problems, so dpending on price difference, and what you consider risking with issues etc... Either screen will probably be fine.

I agree on the CPU, the 1.6 kicks butt.
Order with 256 Ram, hit up newegg and get a 1GB stick for $123
You can also get the DVD +/- burner from newegg for $109 (nec 6500a)

Most (maybe all) of the 60gb hard drive's make a loud "click", i went through 3 of them and then requested a different brand, got an 80Gig 5400 RPM drive to replace it :D

For the display, the WUXGA is AMAZING!!!! Pictures don't do it justice.

Mine doesn't click loudly. even if it did i'd rather have the speed than worry bout a lil noise

Just got mine today
1.6 ghz p-m
256 mb ddr2 (just bought a gig)
dvd rom
64 mb radeon x300se
17" XGA+
40 gig 5400 HD
wireless 2200 card
quicksnap cover charcoal
don't know what else to list

anyway I got the above for $570 on dell/outlet. Plan on adding a dvd burner memory and doing the socket mod with a 1.7 ghz P-M to 2.26 ghz

Oh and a quick question does any1 know if a similiar mod could be done on the 6xx series p4 to go from 3 ghz to ghz ie 400 fsb to 533 fsb

there is also a thread over at notebookforum.com on this for the 9300 it is true you have to buy a new dothan, but you can probably sell your old one, so for around $50 upgrade to a 2.13 to 2.26 ghz processor not bad in my opinion

NewEgg has Transcend 1GB 200-Pin DDR2 SO-DIMM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Notebook Memory - Retail for $119.99 each (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...N82E16820208024). Does anyone know if it's any good?

If I add 1GB and take out one of the two 256 sticks (I have 512 - 2 x 256), will it still run dual channel?

Yea u lose dual channel, but who cares, u lose maybe 3% from it, not like u will notice it anyway, Im doing the same, my ram will be here the 11th, as with the nec dvd -burner. to replace my current dvd/cdrw drive.

Its good cheap ram, buy it up.......

hey username what are u doing with your cdrw/dvd drive? I would not mind making your dvd burner purchase a little cheaper :)

I'm looking to upgrade the memory in my 9300 from 512MB (2 x 256) to at least a gig. I was thinking of buying a 1GB stick and replacing one of the 256s with it.

Two questions:
1 - Is there that much of a performance difference betwen 1.2GB RAM and 2GB RAM?
2 - By mixing the sticks with two different amounts, will there be much of a performance hit by not running dual channel?

Thanks.

1. only in very high memory usage applications like huge photoshop files etc, then, yes, anything that makes your pagefile usage less = better.
2. It took alot of convincing for me to believe this, but there is only a marginal 3% +/- difference in speed with Adding dual channel on the Pentium M's as bandwith is not currently a factor at an already 533 FSB.

Unless you are using onboard video, dual channel is just a gimmick on the P-M.

Question: Can you use the DVI or DB-15 as a secondary monitor output? I tried on my sisters HP and the DB-15 can be mirrored, but couldn't find a way to enable the output as a second screen...

edit: nevermind. played with it a bit more. But it wont let me set the same desktop background with the secondary display enabled :(
edit2: lol. I deleted the source background, i think. Lets try putting those files *back* on the lappy and see if it'll do it...

Just got my 9300 today and I'm loving it so far. Where do you change the brightness of the screen? It's a little dark at the moment, and I can't seem to find the settings. Any help?

Hold down the FN key and use the up and down arrows, should be apparent once you look at it :)

Onboard video as opposed to... External video on a laptop? Maybe i don't get what you're trying to say there.

Edit: are you referring to the new desktop motherboards that work with pentium-M chips?

Glad you got the video problems figured out. Dual displays is fun. Especially when they are running at 1900x1200 and 1600x1200x85hz :D

Thanks Ultima. I'm laughing at myself right now for not noticing. Laptop looks a lot better now though.

onoard = using shared memory for video ram. On single channel the video uses some of the bandiwdth going to the CPU, but on a dual channel you have half your bandwidth being unusable by the CPU. does that make sense?

And it'd be 1920x1200 and 1600x1200 (2000FP, but may have to sell to get a good laptop, would end up with a 2001FP or a 2005FP, or possibly a 2405FP (!) later on).
