i will make the far right one a little straighter :)

"Went and picked up the parts for a new desk tonight.
- Vika Furuskog Table Top
- Vika Curry Leg (x4)

Omfg I had no idea you could do that. I've been in a market for a desk that can hold a 24 and a 22 but the ikea prebuilt desks are too expensive. Thanks alot now I'll have the option of a longer desk for only 70ish.

Look around on Craigslist too, I got my Galant desk for $275, its the left corner part with two of the bigger pieces, one turned sideways on the wider side, the other piece to extend the narrower side and three T feet with three cable manager hangers. Whole setup I believe is $450+, so yeah it is expensive but keep an eye out for them.

That wood looks pretty nice in that pic.
I know, I'm pretty impressed with what I got for the super-low budget. It looks absolutely amazing! And my room smells like fresh cedar :)

I know! Same here! My buddy called me up and wanted some help to go to IKEA cuz he was getting a bunch of stuff for the new house, so we were walkin around and I started puttin some pieces together in my head and realized that my dream-desk was actually a lot cheaper than those pre-made ones that I don't like for $300 lol
I'm also planning on maybe adding 2x 4" legs on top towards the back and a 6" deep bookshelf that's maybe 3 or 4 feet wide, and using it for my monitors so I can slide my keyboard/etc underneath it when not in use. I got the idea from someone who did it here on the forums.

Might want to check the depth of your dell stand if you care about overhang, mine's about 8" deep.

yeah, my dell stand is just under 7" deep, so I'm not too worried about it. The only thing keeping me back from doing this is that I don't want my displays to be too high up, I like them at the height they are at right now so I may end up just leaving it, if not just for the sake of simplicity.

Man I love Ikea. About a year ago I found a jerker posted on craigslist in San Diego. I lived in vegas but had plans to move there eventually anyway because I had a friend in the area. So i went ahead and wired him money to get me the desk ($75 for desk $25 for gas & storage). A year passed and I totally forgot about the desk but was making preperations to move to san diego and room with that very same buddy. Well what a pleasant surprise to arrive in sunny san diego and have a jerker waiting for me.

Unfortunately its the older style jerker base with the slide out shelves. But it did come with the oversized monitor shelf, two extra over head shelves with two extenders in addition to the main T leg. And 4 of the side mounted swivel shelves. I'll get a picture posted up later today if i get a chance.

Long live Ikea

you lucky bastard!

lot of extras for only $75

Ok here is a pic. Bad camera and the desk is really not cean. But I just moved here and we are splitting 1 room till the lease runs out so clutter to be expected.

One of the swiveling shelves is not setup at the moment either. I really want the 36" deep base shelf. Thinking of trying to nab one if it goes up for ~ $50.

I know total score. ;p

i would love to have that VIKA FURUSKOG table, its only $55 but shipping is $290
i think i could order a granite tombstone and have it shipped for less then that? :-(

Dang! Where are you located? Any chances of picking one up at an IKEA store?

It's like 50 bucks in gas round trip, just make sure to get everything you need if you go. Definitely worth the trip though.

i wish it were that easy cause there are 'extenuating circumstances' which involve me
having chronic pain and arthritis in my back, hips and legs. so a trip of any length gets
to be painfully restless.
if i could find someone in the minneapolis. mn area that likes road tripping maybe we could
work something out to meet in sioux falls, sd or part way there. that would make me a
very happy person!

2 24 inch pmva soyo's, and 1 37 inch westinghouse. The soyo's are mounted onto the sides of my jerker desk with monorprice mounts, $12 each :D. I drilled 2 extra holes in the monoprice mounts to make sure it would be more stable and lined the holes up with the holes in the jerker arms :)

props to quique55 to mount it onto the jerker arms by drilling additional holes ;) :p :D

Could you let me know which mount it is. Is it this:
http://www.monoprice.com/products/p...=10828&cs_id=1082802&p_id=3323&seq=1&format=2

I was planning to do the same. I have a HP 24" 2408h. It it stable?

yep thats it but i drilled 2 extra holes at the bottom to match the top holes :)

On their website, I don't understand the prices for the Galants. There will be the same desk, just reversed, and a $80 difference. Little things like that where I can't see a difference but there is a $20 gap. Whats up with that?

Which desks are you specifically talking about? We need examples before we can tell you why.

I am talking about....
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S89807037 (corner desk right $210)
http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/S99852114 (corner desk left $170)

so like, WTF?

Also, another question for IKEA owners. I might be buying soon, would a large Galant desk fit in a small car like a Mazda 3? Also, do they dismantle easily when you move in the future?

Im not sure of the Galant. But the Jerker when disassembled fits easily into the MZ3, with the rear seats folded down.

IMHO, if the jerker can, then the galant can too.

EDIT: Maybe not, I'm not sure, since the galant has a curve.

I put my Vika 59" x 29.5" into a 03 honda civic sedan but I don't think it would hold either the right corner or left corner.

The biggest thing about my decision to buy the desk wasn't the money, it was getting it home. I'm was really surprised it fit into a civic.

The prices are different because you linked to two different coloured tables. One is the birch-veneer finish ($210), the other is white ($170). The prices would be the same if you got the colours proper.

oh wow, i really didn't think paint would make that much difference. What kind of paint do they use?

Alright, well I decided I want to get a corner Galant, black-brown, with A frame legs. Found one on craigslist and the guy still has it! $60. I am deployed to Africa right now, so my dad is going to get it for me.

He says he has the corner extension. I don't know if that is it on the table or what, can anyone tell me what that is on the table? And you think this is a good deal to jump on?
http://austin.craigslist.org/fuo/1126738090.html

of course its a good deal to jump on it, and the thing on the desk is a rubber or leather mat

has anyone looked at the new broder shelves from ikea? i was checking them out and thought they could make a pretty awesome desk/rackspace. it's completely customizable which opens up sooooo many possibilities for configurations.

thoughts?
