Ikea desk gallery

my semi old ikea jerker setup. soon to be selling the jerker and building one to fit better in the nook in my office and to wall mount the lcds plus an lcd tv above.

anyway, enjoy.

p.s. the monitor stand was custom built from an old corner desk i had a few years back, i added an ipod dock to it and some cable holes. can see more in my flickr set:

matrix563,

How do you like the monoprice arms? I was thinking about getting them but wasn't sure about the build quality. Is there any flexing/sagging due to monitor weight? Are the joints easy to rotate or are they stiff. I'm curious because my bed is next to my desk and I like rotating/swinging the monitor around to watch movies. Also why does it look like you have pieces leftover :) .

Thanks.

lol cause i used some other monoprice mounts but since i don't wanna put holes in the wall i bought these new ones that clamp to teh desk :)

you may need a block of wood to get the clamp to fit on the desk. the jerker was not thick enough. i also used a rubber mat thing to keep it from sliding. it is somewhat stiff but gets easier to move and i got it so it won't sag :). a very good deal at more than 75% off what an ergotron arm costs :)

*snip*

I see you have those monitors mounted portrait but do you think those monitors mounted landscape would still hold up? I saw the two comments on monoprice.com that they sag a little under 24" monitors which is what I have. :( Looks like a good product though and nice setup!! :)

well i would think its the same weight either oritentation. both of mine are 24 inch monitors :)basically you have to tilt it up then when it sags its even. at least thats what mine did lol :D

Since we're all here talking about desks... specifically IKEA. How is it that you all survive without any storage drawers/space? In my basement office I have two identical corner desks (Bush?) I bought on the cheap from Shopko for me and my wife. They have a full hutch with storage cabinets on each upper end with bookshelves inbetween and also a full file drawer down low with a smaller drawer above that on the right side. Left side is clear for the tower to sit on the floor tucked in all nice like.

I use all the storage for CD's, nick-nacks, cables, everything, etc... it would look like complete hell if I didn't have that storage space to keep all that stuff there. And yes, I do have a cabinet/closet on the opposite side of the room to keep stuff in as well, but when i'm gaming and want to switch CD's or just need handy stuff from nearby, I don't want to have to head to the cabinet across the room each time.

I love the simple clean desks like those shown throughout this thread, but I can't possibly fathom the thought of having no storage space nearby. What do you guys have/use to put everything in?

I'll try to get pics uploaded so you can visualize my setup.

Thanks

There are drawer addons under the desk, I'm gonna put a 1u or 2u drawer under 1 of my shelves actually. I need it bad.

Raised the shelf an inch and a half to accomodate bigger reciever:

Desk is frederik with custom made shelf

i'm so glad i finally got this crap done. whew i had help this time and it was alot of work!!!

my major noticeable improvement is to get another light birch colored desk that matches my other 2 jerker versions as well as build it by sliding the top 2 shelves back about 1.5 inches so it sticks out of my closet even less compared to the other desk :).

Lot's O jerkers! I just picked up my second last night. I have all my computer equipment on one of them and will use the other for all my tinkering, soldering, etc. There are a couple more available in the Northern CO area and I'm holding myself back from picking them up :)

can anyone tell me what the width of the pictured desk top below is?
and on the jerker desks, what size are the tubular uprights? 1x3?
how far apart are the holes drilled?

i want a jerker desk really bad, but it isnt big enough for what i want,
i need some extra length so i can pile on all my extra shit i have.
thanks

i like that type of desktop cause it looks wider then a jerker desk, i thought the jerkers had the side legs (uprights) that went up the sides of the desktop, yours are underneath and it looks like the top is much wider then a normal jerker? is there two different types of jerker desks??

the last style jerker is similar to the original style but is like a revision 2.

hope that helps :)

the main difference of the table jerker is that its wider, but doesn't stick out as much as the revision 2 jerker.

i love the looks of the jerker desk and the width of the jerker table and thats why i wanted the dimensions
of the leg uprights (thanks matrix563 for those desk plans) and now i can also see what the bottom side
of the table looks like and how it mounts.
i think i can use those plans to make a much wider jerker desk so that i can have a lot more room for all
my shit i need to pile on a desktop! lol

I get to drive to Atlanta tomorrow and spend some money on some IKEA, can't wait.

you know whats awesome. when UPS reschedules a delivery for no reason. Monitor arms would have been here today but UPS rescheduled the delivery for Monday. WTF?

don't forget to try the galant as well ;)

i have a galant 63x31 and love it, the customization with this desk is endless. perfect if you need a ton of room

Yeah, the Galant is king when it comes to expansion. I just added a couple more pieces to extend mine to over 140" of massiveness from left to right. :p

I have 87 x 119 to work with. :) I'll post build pics. Might need two trips in my station wagon.

140 inches??? WTF??
you got to get some pictures put up of that monster!
LOL... It's not quite a monster. Basically, I just added a 31" section to each side of a 63" main desk and then capped each end with a rounded corner. My camera met its untimely demise when it got tossed into the washing machine with a load of jeans. I'll post pics when I pick up a new camera next week.

heres my simple set up at my parents house. I visit them in the summer so it doesn't need to be super nice.

it works quite well all things considered. lol my dogs favorite place to sleep isnt the most convenient for me.

also thats a new chair. the old one broke so i went to office depot to get a new one. It was on clearence for $60 (originally $150) and came with a 1 year replacement warranty and an HDMI cable lol. not a bad deal imo.

Welp, IKEA was overwhelming and I will have to go back a second time because I ran out of time. Was there literally 6 hours and still didn't get it right. Started to panic when they were closing because I didn't realize we were in a different time zone. Loading it in to my Mazdaspeed3 was a whole nother episode.

lol, that's really funny. I was kinda in the same boat as you. Me and my girlfriend went to the IKEA in West Chester Ohio about 2 hours from where we live. We left at like 7 in morning. When we walked inside we both about crapped ourselves. The most amazing store I had ever been in. We were there for 5 hours and realized I had to be at work at 4. Needless to say I called off work that day, lol. No way I was gonna go to work and not build my new desk that night. lol
