HTC Touch Pro 2

I fuckin want as high as possible, the less scrolling side to side and up and down the better. resolution happens to be important to me, if you don't care thats good for you.
Well, guess what. That's as good as it gets outside of Japan.

I'm interested to see a phone that bests the touch pro 2 screen without getting ridiculous in price or size.

I thought nvidia was coming out with a phone that had 720p res or something like that

The only thing that would stop me from getting this phone is a Zune Phone and I know that Microsoft is working on it as I speak.

Man, I would love either a phone or an MID with at least a 10x6 or better resolution.

Me too. I have the Touch Pro on Verizon and the screen is fucking tiny for 640x480. It's pretty cool to run a desktop Terminal Session without scrolling but it's tough as nuts to read anything for a long period of time.

I should have held out for the TP2 instead of getting the TP early this year. For those of you looking to purchase this thing and are not tied to a provider, I would wait a bit before jumping in. See what the carriers do to the devices first. Verizon has a habit of cutting features, Bluetooth functionality, memory and processor speed from the devices and then charging the full price for the hardware. I really hope they don't do it this time around. I don't see a logical explanation for it.

That TP2 is a sexy little device. Hopefully the slide out keyboard is a bit more rigid. The one they put on the TP has a bit of give and it gets a little worse over time.

Why did you bump the thread three hours later then it was already bumped?

Ok, here is some new info...

1. The CDMA devices.. and POSSIBLY the USA version GSM devices are getting a 3.5mm headphone jack! This includes Verizon, Sprint, Telus, US Cellular. I'm not 100% sure on T-mobile or AT&T.

2. Still no EXACT release dates for Sprint, Verizon, US Cellular. I've been following the Sprint release strictly. Apparently the program Sprint stores use to transfer phone numbers and info from an old phone to a new phone (Cellebrite) now has an entry for the Touch Pro 2. Seems like the release may happen sooner than later but this is all still speculation. But still is a positive thing to see.

I'll post things as I hear them.

my phone already has a standard size 3.5mm jack with Dolby Digital Mobile output, was not aware this was an exclusive new feature

HTC likes to put audio/video output in the USB connector (they add 6 pins and call it ExtUSB) instead of a dedicated 3.5mm jack.

ah...ok, i had a HTC 2025 and 3125 back in the day...they were pretty good, slow as heck, but after some modding and software tweaking they worked pretty good

HTC has said that CDMA is the dominate network in North America so there will no GSM phones in North America. GSM is stricly Europe/Asia

I work for t-mobile and the august 15 date is listed as the release date on our computers.

Been watching the TP2, but Ill stick with my diamond until winmo7 level hardware (buttons, sensors, multi-touch) is available.

Not quite sure where you get you information from but this is a seriously misinformed post.. Some BIG NAME GSM providers in the US include AT&T and T-Mobile.. the latter is getting this phone in 2 weeks.

However the exact opposite of your post IS true.. and that there are no CDMA carriers outside of North America.

I'd love to know if the 3.5mm headphone jack will be on this phone since the overseas GSM providers apparently do not have them.

I don't see why not. The only carrier that would take the jack away would be Verizon
:D

Any idea on prices? I upgraded to the Touch HD earlier this year while overseas and they are wanting about $760 US for an unlocked Touch Pro 2 overseas. Since I am a T-Mobile customer here, I'd rather snag a decent deal rather than pay for the phone over there.

Granted my Touch HD was a $70 upgrade, but unless Orange carries the Touch Pro 2 I'm SOL.

*Edit*
Looks like newegg has the Touch Pro 2 unlocked for $670 shipped.

Looks like the Sprint's leaked release date for the Touch Pro 2 is September 6th. Lots of people that have seen the sales playbook are confirming it. Obviously nothing official from Sprint.. and obviously things can change in over a month.. but it looks pretty legit. Too bad it is not August, but thank god it isn't October/November like other people were thinking.

I hope this thing comes out soon, I just gave up my Touch Pro recently and well, I can't seem to make use of a regular flip cell properly.

I just bought the regular Touch Pro a month ago, so I won't be upgrading until the TP3 probably.

Although I might not want to; all they did was make the screen and keyboard bigger, add some conferencing features I would never use, and take away the camera flash (which I do use). With a built in flash(light), there's no mobile technology bragging battle your phone can't win. :D

same here... 'upgraded' to a TP through someone who sold it to me

screen bigger is good... 640x480 on such a tiny screen? (my dell x51v had 640x480 on a 3.7")... no flash is a bummer...

too bad the TP only has a mono speaker (my previous BJ II had stereo speakers that were louder)...given xda developer's chefs cooking WM6.5 roms, don't think TP2 is worth it...

EDIT: looks like the TP2 uses an older processor than the TP1?... lol

I would get it, if it ran on Android.

wait for someone to get android running... someone's making (slow) progress for android on the Touch Pro, no guarantees if it'll actually be released thoug

EDIT: hm... though it'll auto merge posts... no delete post button?

EDIT: looks like the TP2 uses an older processor than the TP1?... lol

This is what I got from a user at ppcgeeks.com

"As to the processors, what we got is:

7200 (TyTN II, Touch Cruise, etc)
7200A (Daimond 2, TP 2, X1)
7201 (this one does not actually exist, I think)
7201A (Diamond, TP, HD)

Now, AFAIK the only difference between the 0 and 1 variants is the Broadcom patent that has been worked around. Apparently this did degrade performance in certain specific areas, which is why the 0 variant has preference over the 1 variant, and the Broadcom vs Qualcomm fight has since ceased, so the 0 variant can be used again.

The A variants vs the non-A variants is the die-size. The A variants are 65nm and go to 528mhz, the non-A variants are 90nm and go to 400mhz.

7201A was produced before 7200A. So in fact, the TP2 has both the better and newer processor compared to TP "

What? They are out of their minds. CDMA is a dwindling protocol.

Say what? Maybe you are thinking of TDMA... CDMA is present in many countries such as US, Canada, India, South Korea, Japan, South America, ... Not saying it is bigger than GSM, but it certainly isn't dwindling... especially not in the US. Where did you get this theory from? The only good thing to me about GSM is it's ability to be used around the world since there are GSM providers pretty much everywhere. When I get my hands on this TP2.. I won't have that problem seeing that it is a world phone and has a sim slot for foreign GSM. But seriously.. CDMA was made after GSM.. and it is my personal opinion that the call quality is better, and network is faster the majority of the time.

Just need one with AT&T's 3G bands now...though to be honest, after having my Touch Pro for almost a year now, I kinda wish they would have upgraded the hardware a bit at least (minus the screen). It's showing its age compared to many other phones.

Woot, it's coming for Verizon on the 11th, per engadget and my own calling to Verizon's 800 number to ask :D. $299 minus 100 rebate = $199, minus new every 2 50 = 149, and any retention discount I can get since I am already out of contract :D. Can't wait to upgrade my XV6800/HTC Titan to this thing!

The custom ROMs are already cooking, but it looks like the stock ROM is actually quite good already from what I'm reading.
