HTC One (M9)

I was waiting for the Apple watch announcement too, but I'm over watched trying to be smartphones on your watch. I want more wrist bands like the Microsoft one.

I've been using a 360 and I like it, but one part is fairly terrible- it's the heart rate sensor. It's decent at a resting rate, but who cares what that is? When i'm working out, it never seems to be able to determine the rate- I suspect this is more of a problem with the optical sensor that's used- I wonder if any band that uses optical sensors would also suffer from this problem? Someone suggested shaving my arm... right. The UP3 has my attention since it uses electrical rather than optical sensors.

Welp, I think those don't really help htc much but unless they are official lets not put much faith in those.

Nah, they're legit. You'd have to be very, very clever to fake what was in those clips (they've since been pulled), especially since they show off features that aren't in Sense right now.

So it's an evolutionary update... not that I'm bummed, since the One M8 was one of my favourite phones from last year.

That's exactly what most complained/bitched about with the S5 even though it was actually a pretty good upgrade over the S4. HTC can't afford to publish the exact same phone again.

face it, it'll still look better than the GS6...

Although I still hope that is not the M9 but the M8i

There is that concern, for sure. With that said, the GS4 faced more criticism than the One M8 did -- there's less pressure on HTC to make a dramatic leap forward than there was on Samsung. The big question is whether or not the average phone buyer can see past the One M9's similar looks.

Not really true from a business perspective. HTC is operating at razon thin profit margins. They're the ones who can ill afford to lose momentum and release a phone which is labeled iterative. Even if it's still built better than the S6, people will flock to the S6 because it's shiny and looks new.

That's why I'm hoping that HTC has purposely been releasing dummy mock ups to throw people off for the announcement on the 1st.

True, but then again I'm not sure why looks matter so much. I guess I don't understand WHY it has to matter so much, seeing as the devices screen is possibly the biggest factor. Just my opinion.

Yea but look what Johnny posted, HTC can't afford to be riding the coat tails of their prior success design. They have to take cues from Samsung, they tried the same thing and it backfired regardless of how nice of an upgrade it was.

If the screen is the biggest factor than the S6 wins as its QHD and Samsung screens are typically considered as having the best screen. Smaller bezels than the M9 so more screen real estate for phones that appear to be about the same size.

Samsung will market the crap out of it and their change in build so I don't see how HTC can win this round if the leaked images/videos of both phones are accurate.

Sense is much better than TouchWiz but again if the rumors are true then TW will be scaled down compared to previous releases.

I only say this because we buy these devices for what is displayed on the screen. We don't admire the looks of it.

Well some of us might :p

Haha, his comments are much like those click-bait titles...

"they opened up the meeting with half a cup of coffee and IT CHANGED MY LIFE!!!!!"

Yeah, Samsung has the edge with displays. But HTC has an edge with audio. For me, the display is still nice enough and I benefit a lot more from the speakers than I do from the display. I don't think I want a phone without front facing speakers now after having the M8. Sony and Moto have picked up on this too fortunately.

More GS6 pic leaks.

I don't understand the big hype around 1440p phones. Anything over 1080p on 6" or less screen is just a waste of battery consumption.

If these new leaks are the real deal, and it's the same phone three years straight, HTC is doomed :( Only Apple can do two years of the same exact phone design and get away with killer sales.

HTC can not afford to keep the same style for three years straight. I mean the M7 and M8 were already similar design, the M9 now being the third year of the same thing yet again.

I really wanted this;

Evan Bass (aka evleaks) is still sticking to his leak. Saying things like "if the cyberport leaks were real, wouldn't htc have taken them down?" And also that we know HTC is deliberately passing out bad leaks for this generation to surprise people (on the subject of the videos). Evan has just asked us to wait and see.

If HTC successfully pull this off, I will forever call them the hipster troll company... It would also be funny if the carwash trolls got up on stage at the announcement.

I do hope the leaks are false and there is a departure from what has been leaked. Of not, then wait on battery reviews on S6 and if less than expected, I'll just stay with my iPhone 6+ until something better is released.

Those promo videos were definitely legit. Let's see what the hands-ons are like first, though! Also, who'd have thought that people on this forum would say "nah, I'm probably keeping my iPhone" in reaction to HTC and Samsung flagship launches?

Normal, non fanboy types? :p

Ha, I'm surprised they even exist on this forum! We have more than a few brand loyalists. (For reference: I lean iPhone, but I'm entirely happy using some Android phones and even some Windows Phones).

I just can't get over the same design, now 3 years in a row. The M7, then the M8, and now the M9, all pretty much the same wrap around metal design, with silly HTC logo bar at the bottom

I don't think HTC can do well, by keeping the exact same design three years in a row. The M9 will show it's age quicker, and look stale after awhile.

What happened to this ?

This is really a hard sale to me. I'm typing this on my M8 and I can't really justify getting a "M8S"

I will look forward to the production camera reviews, but unless that camera is amazing (which its beta currently is not), I'm expecting to get a GS6/GN5 or iPhone 6S this year.

That said, if all I had was a M7, I could see that the M9 could be a good upgrade... But I would still imagine that the iPhone 6S to be better...

Am I the only one who thinks this phone is hideous? The only phone that is gorgeous, is the Z3.

Hideous? Naw. HTC have a good formula. Device that runs well and you never hear complaints about build quality.

Enough better to sell over M8 or M7? That is the question.

HTC’s One M9 is the world’s most beautiful disappointment
http://www.theverge.com/2015/3/1/8126431/htc-one-m9-hands-on-preview

The design is still gorgeous, the camera is still mediocre. The first time I saw the new device, I confused it for the old one

Verge hates anything that isn't an iPhone. I'd be shocked if they liked the device or its camera TBH.

Both the S6 and M9 are great pieces of hardware and nice designs. But man both UI's are just not as nice as stock Android. At least Sense is actually pretty good, and Tocuhwiz just blows, but still prefer the option to install stock Android.

The S6 running a Nexus stock Android OS would be amazing, and a must have to me. Same with the M9, would love to see another GPE version from HTC and Google on the M9, but I think that program has dies :(

I like that both the S6 and M9 are still in the smaller 5" size, that are easier for one handed use IMO. But I want the option for stock Lollipop version, with no manufactures UI.

This is a cool looking case, and the M9 does still have a premium design, and nice feel in the hand I'm sure. I just want to know if this thing is a battery beast ? it does have a bigger battery than the M8, now being 2,900mAh, and still a 1080p screen. So hopefully the M9 is on par with like a OnePlus One battery stamina.

I personally prefer vanilla stock Android, but of any other UI, Sense does it best.

If HTC exec's are reading the tech forums, they must be quaking in their boots and second guessing themselves. I have read like a dozen different tech forums and it seems like 75% are very disappointed in the M9 not being a bigger jump, or looking like the leaked renders from last month. Even FaceBook posts are bashing this M9 big time.

But it is funny, the iPhone S versions, are exactly what the M9 is to the M8, and the 'S' versions somehow sell like hot cakes with record breaking sales, better than the year before.

So why is it ok for Apple to just make a better camera, and faster hardware and more RAM, but keep the exact identical design for two years and get away wit it ? But HTC does it, and people say their done, this thing won't sell at all.

Well, I for one applaud the M9, I think it looks great. HTC took what was already really good and improved on it, kind of like how Apple does with the "S" models, if its not broke, don't fix it..?

Not trying to start a flame war, but what are people really expecting or wanting out of it? It's a phone.. I think it looks good.

Three years without a design refresh is way too long. Can HTC no longer afford a designer? At least change to the Surface Pro 3 style speakers to clean up the front and make sure the parts line up since there's probably still a customer base for stereo speakers.

The concept photos above were gorgeous, I agree, but not a deal breaker for me. They could of slimmed up the speakers and bezels and made it smaller, but I'm fine with how it looks.
