HTC One (M9)

I think the 5.0" is the perfect screen size, the M8 felt just about the right screen size when I used it for a bit.

Upleaks seems to have doubled down and claim 'confirmed 5"' on the Hima.

As for China, looks like your hardware will be different:

Hima - Snapdragon 810
Hima_Ace (China) - mtk
Hima_Ultra (China) - mtk

I'm assuming the MediaTek SoC in question is the also 64bit octocore MT6795 with integrated LTE modems, aka the Snapdragon 810 killer.

Looks like it will be using the camera sensors from the Xperia line, which is nice. Hopefully they can do a better job with the image processing software.

I would be shocked if the screen size remains at 5". Typically HTC and most phone makers, enlarge the screen on a new generation device. I could see it going up a little bit to 5.2", maybe not 5.5" which seems top be the new popular screen size, but at least a little bump up.

But please keep it at 1080p, there's no reason to go 2k, it kills battery life, and really not even that noticeable.

Look at the iPhone 6 Plus, or OnePlus One, both 1080p 5.5" screens, and they look great.

It seems the Hima is a Verizon exclusive. :(

It has the model number HTC6535LVW, which is one number from the DNA's model number HTC6435LVW. So screw this phone if it's an exclusive, even if I am on Verizon, I'm not falling for it after the Rezound and DNA dropping support a year or less after release.

Hopefully the M9 is pretty much the same hardware and still on Verizon. I don't want QHD or a Verizon exclusive phone. Figured HTC would have learned its lesson from that crap.

This makes sense then, no pun intended ;) The Hima maybe being a Verizon exclusive.

Then to me, that means this is NOT the One M9, which I wouldn't expect to be announced until Feb / March. Not as early as CES. No One series phone was ever revealed that early.

It would also make sense that Upleak has been refusing to call the phone the HTC One and even correcting others when they do.

But the specs are basically what everyone expects from the next generation flagships. So it might not make as much difference. But if it really is Verizon exclusive, good luck getting updates from any phone other than Apple or Motorola.

I sure hope the next generation One would get a display with lesser bezels, but I doubt HTC wouldn't be screwed over by S-LCD, who is owned by Samsung.

Samsung's component units actually treat its mobile/PC divisions like any other customer, on purpose, It wants to attract customers who'd otherwise be worried that Samsung would intentionally short or refuse them. Remember, one of its biggest chip/display customers is its archnemesis, Apple -- if Samsung is still willing to supply the company that's hurting its high-end smartphone business, it'll certainly accommodate HTC.

Allegedly leaked pictures:

Smaller speakers? Not sure how to take that photo.
The current M8 also has 4 rows of holes in the speaker grill. But the alleged render/leak M9 photo shows maybe a longer width soaker as well, but it could be the proportion playing tricks on my eyes on that angle. Hopefully the top and bottom bezels are the same sizes this time around.

Maybe it's angled away to lessen the bezel.

Looks like HTC is only announcing the new Desire in CES. HIMA is no where in sight yet.

On another note, LG will make the announcement of the G Flex 2 with snapdragon S810

I call fake. Staring at my M8 and it, literally nothing changed and it looks identical. There's no way they're keeping the exact same design on the back and keeping the gimmicky duo-cam.

I have 2 m7s and they are loaded with problems. back to samsung I go

Delay rumors coming out of Korea again. Rumors suggest that the Snapdragon 810 is overheating in the LG G Flex 2. This might bring all flagships this year a delay or looking for other alternatives. We might be stuck with a S808 or even Intel Atoms, etc.

Per "spec" wise I think the 808 makes a lot more sense then the super power hungry 810 most likely will be. I hope we get more competition in the phone SoC race, Qualcomm stinks.

Another bad news, it doesn't look like many of any flagships this Spring will use USB 3.1 Type-C.

Does anyone know the HTC release pattern? My contract is ending in March and I was thinking of either an iphone6 or the HTC one M8. The iphone6 is a little lackluster although I wouldn't mind seeing what the 6s or whatever they call it is like. That probably isn't out until September.

The HTC one M9 looks good on paper if the rumors are true and if it hopefully is released in March. I wonder if they'll offer a Windows version as well.

Typically HTC release their flagship phone in the Spring of each year. They officially announce and reveal it in late Feb / early March, and is on sale in U.S. Carrier stores in April.

If a Windows version is made available, I'll bite. Otherwise, I'll probably hold out for the 6s+. My 6+ is still backordered.

Torn on this one. I really liked the M8, but the camera pushed me away. The E8 was brilliant in my mind (same specs as M8, but 13mp camera, micro SD and polycarb body, so much lighter than the M), but only on Sprint. Here is to hoping this is a contender.

After the N6 not delivering what I wanted in a phone, I am still looking to replace my venerable Nex4. Still more than a month away for a full reveal, it will be interesting to see what else is coming out Q1 this year.

Strong rumors from the people in the know.

One M9 will have an overall smaller footprint compared to the M8, it will be a little narrower, and shorter, and a hair thinner. Will still have a 5" screen. Will have a larger a 2850mAh battery, and 3GB RAM, and Snapdragon 810, and 20MP Camera.

HTC is said to want to polish up the One phone, and just be a better overall phone, with longer battery life, and faster performance, and great Sense 7 based off Lollipop. It won't be ground breaking radically different, but will be a better phone than the M8, and supposed to be a beast and one of the best Android flagships for 2015.

I'm curious about that 20MP camera, assuming the rumors are true. It's clearly not just a recycled camera from other HTC phones, and it sounds like it might be a Sony sensor. Maybe it's the phase detection sensor the company unveiled just a couple of months ago... which is good, because it could end up being a best-of-all-worlds camera.that has both fine image quality and a high resolution.

Unless Microsoft can pull a new Lumia out of its ass that is revolutionary, I'm looking at the Hima when it finally comes out.

Youg uys realize that the speaker does not take up the whole grill in the current M8 right? About 2/3 of the holes are just for looks.

So HTC is giving us...........THE EXACT SAME PHYSICAL PHONE AS LAST YEAR!!! Yeah, and there was much rejoicing throughout the land. And people give Samsung crap for it's iterative updates.

But hey at least HTC is fixing (albeit a year late) the most glaring defect from the M8, most notably its bad camera. And maybe HTC is saving a lot of cost here. They can just use the same molds and what not from last year and just pack in updated internals.

I am surprised and not surprised at HTC here. For one reason I can see them pulling an Apple, keeping the same physical phone design / shape for two model years, which works just fine for Apple, they keep selling the S model like hotcakes, which is always the same size and design as the previous years phone.

But I would have liked to see HTC go to like a 5.2" screen size in almost the same size body as the M8, by getting rid of that bottom HTC logo bar, and shrinking the speaker bezels a hair smaller, and just making everything smaller while making a larger screen. Follow what LG does on their G2 and G3, they get a lot of screen size in a very tight small footprint.

And would like to see a flat back, like the Galaxy S line and iPhone. i really like the lay flat on table design with no bulge rocking the phone back and forth.

I can't hardly fault HTC for not getting rid of that bottom bezel because they do not manufacture displays. I would blame HTC for not finding another display supplier. If they want to stick with SLCD, they have to realize that Samsung just plain doesn't care all that much about reducing the bezels for HTC.

As for HTC retaining a similar design as the M8, I ask you why not? The M8 is still the best looking android device right now. Samsung is even rumored to be making a significant design chance from cheap looking and feeling plastic to look more premium like the M8.

HTC needs major work on redesign especially the back side. Until they do they won't even register in the top ten marketshare and will continue to be eaten by newcomers like Xiaomi with much better design and quality.

I don't think they need to work on design at all, it's already better than most (if not all) phones on the market and was praised for it consistently from most reviewers and consumers. Hell, the M8 was one of the highest rated phones of the year last year (was MKBHD's phone of the year actually).

I think what they need major work on is marketing. You don't see carriers pushing/advertising them nearly as much as Samsung and Apple phones, or see nearly as many commercials for them, not sure I've ever even seen a commercial for the M8.

But show me marketshare outside of China, because I don't think anyone outside of China has ever seen any phones from half the OEMs on that list.
