How many here got there RTX 5090 / 5080 Out of Stock Edition

Just took delivery of the Astral, what a heavy girl! This thing dwarfs my 4090 FE. Waiting for my new PSU to arrive, I had to take a pic of this cute little shift key you get for your 3.3k. (I better have all my damn ROPs!)

That's pretty neat. I decided to replace my power supply as well when I got my 5090, just because my Corsair one was about 3 years old. I moved the Corsair to another PC and got the Seasonic PX-1600W to be on the safe side (I always over do it on the PSU side of things). Playing games my MSI Trio hasn't pulled near 600W, but I'm sure some newer games will push the limit eventually. Enjoy your card!

Good call IMO. I went with the ASRock Phantom Gaming 1300W, a cheaper Gold unit but it reviews well and comes with a thermistor on the 12V-2x6 connector. I’m a bit paranoid over meltgate and want to mitigate the risk, considering all the bitching I did on this forum regarding the issue. I know I’m a hypocrite for caving and buying a 5090, but my 20 year addiction to always having the top GPU won out. I can use the 25%! 🤷‍♂️

You and me both. I said I wasn't going to upgrade and here I am for the same reasons as you. I did some digging on the AsRock power supplies a while ago and they seem to be made by FSP (OEM). I see you have an FSP power supply already so at least you know it's good quality.

Lol trust me man you won't be the last person who said they won't upgrade but then eventually do it, as long as you are enjoying the 5090 who cares what others think. If people want to be salty about it and say crap like it's your fault GPU prices now cost as much as they do and people can no longer PC game or that you are financially stupid I say just ignore the non sense. Grats on the purchase!

I broke down and got a Gigabyte Aorus Master RTX 5090 during the last NewEgg combo drop despite telling myself I wouldn't pay over $2500. With more tariffs the pricing situation didn't look like it was going to improve anytime soon and my wife was waiting for my old PC to get up and running with a GPU. Based on the Hardware Unboxed review it seems like it's a solid card. The LCD screen is a bit overboard, but I'll take it.

This thing looks so massive in person. This is a North XL case:

I waited to get one of those Aorus 5090’s for a while but just couldn’t nab one. Funny thing is the 5080 and 5070 TI cards are just as massive. Happy with my Gaming Trio card even though it was my second choice.

I'm not sure where you get that idea from. It may not be a lot of people's first choice, but they sell out the same as everything else.
I said want. Need is a different thing. Zotac makes the noisiest cards I have ever used and also I have yet to have one without coil whine.

It might just be my bad luck but where I have used cards from all brands, Zotac remains the only one with 100% bad experience rate. Sample of 4 so less than others but it is enough for me to never look at it except pure desperation.

I am sure there will be Zotac believers stepping in here to defend and that is OK. I won’t have time to respond to them. 👀

I bought a Zotac 2080 Ti AMP from Newegg back in 2018 and the terribly built fan died just after one month. Had to ship it on my dime to Zotac RMA. Unacceptable for what was a $1200 card, brand new. Swore them off for good after that. The sight of that brand sickens me to this day. The only AIB I won't even consider.

I’ve only had one Zotac card which if I remember was a 9800GT. It was a good card that lasted a long time. Just never had an opportunity to purchase another card lately due to shortages. I’ve heard nothing but good things besides my good experience.

Yeah I think that particular AMP model had lots of QC issues. I've been re-reading the old emails just now, even Steve Burke of Gamers Nexus contacted me about it. I think I had complained in the comments section of his channel about Zotac not sending me a shipping label. I had missed the Newegg return window by a couple days. It just struck me as terrible customer service. So I end up buying an Asus Strix and selling the Zotac RMA replacement card. A year after that, I had to help the guy I sold it to get his RMA. So yeah, that whole charade just turned me off the AMP line and Zotac in general.

If I didn't buy things because of one bad product over the past 30 years, I could no longer buy anything from MSI, Gigabyte, Western Digital, LG, Samsung, Asus, Corsair, Seagate, Crucial, Logitech, Razer....

They were certainly within their rights to be petty and not do me a favor over a shipping label. And I'm within my rights to be petty and not buy their products again. It happens. Is what it is. Zotac does seem to elicit more negativity than other brands. Is it fair? I don't know, just offering my own anecdotal experience.

I loved the keycap that I got with my 9070 XT Red Devil LE - but this keycap doesn't fit the same keyboard that fits the Red Devil one (moved the RD card to my office rig so wanted to swap keycaps). Very strange. Have you used it or are you just showing it off? Just curious if it fits. It is about a half CM too big for my Wooting 60HE.

I've been using a old Corsair AX1000 (bought in 2019) and it has been fine. Official Corsair 12VHPWR cable. Can't beat the Astral's monitoring capability - now available in HWiNFO:

It doesn't fit my Corsair K70 Pro TKL, so I got creative with it. The RPM really get up there when dusting! :D

Well said.

Nobody wants a Zotac.
The truth.

Zotac has a bad reputation for a reason. Does every Zotac card have problems - no, of course not. But at the tech forums it’s staggering how many Zotac owners report completely dead GPUs after just a few months.

Although the AMP Infinity Extreme is super tight. Problem is it costs the same as an Astral OC now. At the prior $2600 cost...game on.

that price even after discount is profound
Walmart had a PNY drop today. $3600 for a PNY EPIC-X ARGB 5090. Still 4 left according to Walmart's site. It's sold and shipped by Walmart.com, not some "pro" seller. So that's where we're going.

Agreed, but the entire market is like this. I sold my 4090 to a member here at a very generous price, well below current market value. Still came out ahead of what I had originally paid in late 2022. And it covered more than half of the 5090. While it’s still possible we’ll see a severe macroeconomic recession and disinflation, current trend is upward. This 5090 was relatively cheap.

Now that EVGA is gone, I'm pretty brand agnostic since I'm just going to rip the cooler off to slap a waterblock on anyway. So far the Zotac Amp Extreme is the only 5090 I've had the chance to buy and I passed. Happen to be at Microcenter as they put 5 in the case. I posted it to the MC discord and they were all gone within the hour. I don't need a 5090 so If I can't get a reference model close to MSRP I just wont bother.

Great UPS' - I have like 6 in my house now, lol. HWiNFO can monitor it, too! So I get my per pin monitoring plus UPS all in one app...

Not sure why you need two for one rig but you do you!

EDIT: how cool is this - use GPU Tweak III v1.9.2.4 and you can show the status of the Astral 5090's accelorometer! It's disabled in the latest version so it may be worth grabbing this.

I got another 5090 order in on a Best Buy drop after the Gigabyte Gaming OC I had dropped dead after 20 minutes. Asus ROG Astral so the price is nuts.

I think an FE drop was running interference for my Astral buy. I got a message in Telegram from nowinstock.net, clicked it, ordered the ROG Astral. Afterwards I realized an FE drop was happening at the same time from the Telegram messages.

Luckily you can pick these up used (sans batteries) for relatively cheap on eBay. I spilled water on mine and replaced it for $50 with the better true Sinewave one instead of simulated. Just popped my batteries in and was good to go.

Why isn't just one of these adequate for a 5090? If you're mainly gaming it seems it would last long enough for you to do a shutdown if your power goes out.
