I am curious to see what kind of machines forum users like to build.

Technically speaking, my current main system is closest in description to your mainstream system. However, I doubt an E6400@3.4 is mainstream.

And while I would love 4 gig of RAM, 2 gig suffices for now. For the most part, my graphics card is what is holding me back since it's a midrange card from the previous generation. However, it does do what I need it to do for now.

Possibly by this Spring, I might move up a bit on your list. I'm hoping for a quad core with 4 gig of RAM and maybe a new video card although I'm not going to go nuts on the video card. I'm one of those people who can't justify spending more than $250 on a video card. Then again, I game on a 19" CRT so I don't need the biggest and baddest video card since I don't need to worry about native resolutions.

In between Extreme and Powerful.

Though I only have one video card at the moment I am upgrading pretty soon.

Already have the Quad and 4GB of memory, so more than half-way there. :D

I would rate my rig in the moderate class. Hope to upgrade to a higher end card soon.
