Homefront - March 2011

That video is interesting. Very much not a AAA title, but it looks like it could be fun. The stuff with the Goliath seems frustrating though. A really poor way of doing what they were attempting to do. The animations aren't great, but I've seen worse. Middle of the road seems like a good fit for it. I don't think releasing for full price is going to help them. THQ should have priced it at $30-$40, it might do better at that price point. I'll probably pick it up at some point but I'm looking forward to it a whole lot less now.

i agree, and i don't think it will be long before it drops down to that price range.

Yeah. I'll probably wait until then to pick it up. Probably somewhere around summer, which is perfect. Speaking of which they probably should have waited until summer to release the game. Too many other big titles releasing right now, its going to get lost in the shuffle.

I don't think this game will catch on.

Ohh geez. That was kind of hilarious really. I could see this being ok if the video was showing something that was 5-6 months before release. The repetitive/lack of textures in some places on the video, the pretty mediocre animations, and the run and gun all just add up to something that I won't pick up until steam drops it below $10.

Does anyone notice how easy the game looks as well. I feel like the game will have two difficulties, really easy and annoyingly "cheap shot" hard. Also, nice Tiger Direct plug.

I wonder if they were playing the game on easy or if its just that easy in general. I kind of like that they're using real world places, adds to the game. At least its in-game advertising that serves a purpose, despite how very obvious it is. Now if the characters keep referencing that they're in a Tiger Direct shop yeah thats a problem.

Hyperbole much? They're not great but come on. They're still miles better than the animations in Fallout 3, New Vegas, or Oblivion.

At least they have gameplay to make up for it, this is just bad and 80 dollars worth of badness to on australian steam

look at the truck as it drives away that looks terrible.

Their price is wrong for the game. It looks like it'll be a fun game to play between big releases. The price and release date for this are all wrong. The animations are the least of my concerns about the game. Animations generally don't bother me, I enjoy a good chuckle from bad ones.

Game is to be released tommorow.

Anyone interested? Steam give metro 2033 free with pre-purchase

Where is the hook in playing a shitty cod4 (not that good by itself) ripoff in an again shitty tom clancy scenario?
It's like taking away the dumb bulky marines and violence from gears of war and then making all the greys and browns you are left with even worse by stamping it with a lulz invasion on the stats, it's like a modern nicolas cage movie.

just got done watching this youtube vid and this one of people playing MP on console. parts of it look really fun, and other parts look a little generic. i have a feeling the MP player base will dry up after a week or two on the PC...otherwise i'd probably purchase this game for the multiplayer.

Tigerdirect and other billboards in game? lol

The gameplay looks pretty bland to me, wasn't gonna pick it up anyway. The lack of textures is VERY noticeable. It looks like they haven't progressed since Frontlines imo, maybe even a step backwards

Kind of glad I didnt pre-order the game after watching those videos. The game looks kind of fun, but not $50 worth of fun. Maybe some PC gameplay will change my mind, but I doubt it.

I'm interested in the storyline. It's a definite departure from what we normally see. However, $50 for a 5 hour game? No, thank you. This one will have to wait until it goes on sale on Steam for $15 during the 4th of July sale. WTB vaule for my gaming dollar.

I remember reading something about how THQ was going to sell all games at 40$. Like the CEO said it or something. I guess they lied?

grenade indicators? Oh god.

The tiger direct billboards are terrible. Just huge white billboards with their url on it. It broke the little bit of immersion for me because my eyes kept getting drawn to the out of place ad. That's probably the point, but I think the game suffers for it. The TigerDirect prices inside the building aren't really a problem though and are probably how they should've done it in general.

I was really hoping this would be a sleeper hit. Oh well.

And the guy from Kaos studios looks like he's selling us bullshit and knows it. Just my impression, but he doesn't look very enthused and looks a little guilty.

It is disappointing.

Most of us here don't hope for bad titles. Still, I need to see for myself. I don't want to bury something unless I've had some first hand experience, or the reviews are just shockingly bad.

After wasting my money on Frontlines, once I saw Kaos was doing this one I said no way. I wouldn't waste my cash on this even if it was on sale for 5 bucks.

Kaos is not working on the pc version of this game... Digital Extremes is the one.

I sure hope you're not including Half Life 2 in that.

No. Half-Life 2 was great to play and great to look at...in 2004. Source really doesn't look significantly better now than it did back then (compare HL2 and Ep2 to L4D2), the improvements are minor but there has been no improvement in textures at all.

I am a believer of "gameplay > graphics" and a believer in pushing graphics and tech, but I find it really annoying how Valve gets a free pass with the Source engine because of a game from seven years ago, whereas games like Homefront (and a little while ago, Fallout NV) get hammered for not bringing Crysis-level advancements in graphics.

That's because PC games give Valve a lot more leniency, being that they're one of the few big studios that is PC centric. As soon as Valve started putting more focus into consoles that the PC you would see all that change. The vocal members of the PC community make sure everyone knows exactly how they feel about consoles and companies that focus on them.

That being said, I love Valve's art direction and I think that makes up for some of the technical deficiencies of the Source engine.

lol, those videos are both from the xbox 360 version, the lack of first person view in vehicles is a dead give away, not to mention it showing the B and A buttons. why is everyone whining about the graphics on a console version on this PC sub forum, what do you expect. look at games like bad company 2 and cod on 360, has low res textures just like this game. they are shitty looking compared to the pc versions.

Wait a minute - is this third person or first?

First-person.

Except Valve has shown no interest in reviving and finishing the game that cemented their supposed PC crown - Half-Life 2 - leaving an unfinished story for five years and counting, and is now trying to romance the PlayStation 3 userbase. I wonder if the PC crowd as a whole has even caught onto this yet.

Why does anybody consider this to be a shitty storyline? It wasn't that long ago that a single tiny country was able to nearly take over the European continent and could possibly have achieved it if we didn't join in after being sucker punched.

A united Korea could achieve a similar affect, especially with China's backing.

It really annoys me when people act so smug and secure. The Roman military was the single greatest fighting force the world had seen, right up until it rotted out from within and fell apart. We have states that can't even pay their own workers and a national debt that largely belongs to China. If we can't pay our military, there will be no military. And I am a veteran so I am not just talking out of my ass.

All I am saying is that nobody knows what the world will look like tomorrow. What would the Japanese have said the future was going to be two weeks ago? Who knows what the world will look like in a few years?

It's fiction, enjoy it.

I don't care what the game looks like.as long as it plays well. I don't understand why companies cannot build on the improvements from previous games. We have had cover systems implemented well yet nobody builds that system into their own games. We still trip on or get blocked by stupid walls that don't even come to our knees. We have had games at least partially implement damage systems that allow us to destroy buildings and track bullet damage through thin walls yet nobody continues to improve on this.

If each game took gaming technology just a few steps forward with every new release we would have not only photorealistic worlds but worlds that reacted realistically, with physics applied to every object within.

Our games are not advancing at the same level as the hardware running them. Personally I blame the consoles and the greed of the gaming publishers. Why create something new when the old stuff continues to break selling records? Why take advantage of the increased processing power of the PC when the majority of their customers use the old tech present in the consoles?

This rant went on longer than I meant it to. I bought the game mainly because I got Metro 2033 in the deal and I am somewhat enjoying it. Between the two games I believe it was a good deal. There are things about this game that I really hope Battlefield 3 implements, such as the ability to spawn your own vehicles based on how you are performing in the game. This could be a massive improvement on the Battlefield 2 method of waiting for a vehicle to spawn and getting shot by a teammate.

It does look somewhat amateurish in some of its animations i'll say that much. The knife melee looks like some kind of superspeed poke attack.

Ya i watched this morning that guy on justin play a bunch of mp and sp and I'm not buying this. It's too cheap looking in every way. The production values just aren't there. Maybe if I catch a deal down the road on it sure why not but this game isn't worth 50 bucks.
