Anyone else play this? Don't think I can really explain it better than the Steam store page, but this game is pimp as fuck and has all but consumed my last couple weeks of game time. Basic premise almost reminds me a bit of Rogue Legacy, except it utterly outclasses it in nearly every way.

Honestly fantastic, ton of fun.

Picked it up at a steam sale. Seems like it's come a long way since it's EA release on the Epic store.

Picked it up a few weeks ago. It's a great game already even though it's still in early access. I've escaped with every weapon and just completed the PoP with 4 skulls. The "cast bow" is broken as all hell.

Just escaped for the first time yesterday with the shield.

The upgrades for wall slams are hilarious. I was knocking things into walls for over 500 damage at times. That plus the bull rush replacement where you fire a shot is insane.

It was hitting for over 200, and you're practically unhittable while charging it. I'm tempted to say it's bordering on broken since it's like the bow except it blocks fucking everything.

The problem with wall slams is that they're practically useless against bosses. If you take the cast bow and take Dionysus' Trippy Shot or Aphrodite's cast ability it will crit for over 1k.

Yeah it's a tradeoff. Regular encounters are SUPER easy with the Shield - but I like the bow better for boss battles. I bought this last night and I'm friggin hooked. Game is awesome.

It's the most fully fleshed out Early Access game I've ever seen. The lore and systems are pretty much perfect as they are. It basically feels like it's finished and they're just adding free DLC every 45 days or so. I've unlocked everything except for some of the high gem cosmetics (800 gem pillars and such) and a couple of Fates. It's one of the few games where I get excited waiting for the next patch.

I was really quite surprised by the amount of unique dialog in the game. There's a _lot_.

The new patch just dropped the other day.

Early Access Patch 040: The NIGHTY NIGHT Update - March 10, 2020

This Major Update opens up even more ways to battle out of hell, with a powerful new weapon, new weapon Aspects, and lots more story to sink your teeth into! I suck with the fists so far, gonna take me a bit to GIT GUD with those up close. I mastered ranged and I mostly only play bow or rail nowadays, but it's a cool melee weapon.

Can't wait to see what this game turns into in terms of additional content and if there will be more game past the current last boss. I'm assuming so. Random GOTY for me so far. And it's more polished than half the AAA titles out there and it's in fkin EA. Making other development companies look REAL BAD.

I just picked up the the Steam version I liked the IGN review and the guy I work with just picked it up for the Nintendo Switch.
I know the game was on Epic at first and showed up on Steam at a later date. I'll see what it's like on my midweekend.

I've only played like one round since the big patch, been meaning to revisit it.

Really want to see where some of the story beats wind up. And I've only beat it with a few weapons, haven't even tried the fists yet.

There is a major cult following for this game. Not sure how or why, but it's really popular/beloved while still being under the radar.

Hades is my Game of the Year by far, i'm at 175 completed runs* and I'm nearly done 100% everything. Been playing since the earliest early access period and have not been disappointed by anything.

*When I started playing, runs ended at the Hydra, You couldn't actually reach the surface until well over a year of early access. So its not that comparable to people who started at 1.0

Just picked this up on the Switch. Haven't been able to put it down. We've been in the middle of house renovations, and a possible move, so the Switch is all I have to play on at the moment. Glad I grabbed this game. It's definitely an overhead Dead Cells. Very cool.

Its made by Supergiant Games. They made Bastion, Transistor, and Pyre. All 3 of which were well reviewed and well received indy games. Its no surprise Hades is at least as well received, if not better.

Hades was also in early access for some time. And they interacted a lot with their community and made changes and tweaks which were obviously inspired by the community.

What's your favorite weapon been?

I almost always take whatever has the bonus, but the shield and spear with life steal seem to be the easiest wins.

Aegis Shield for me - game practically becomes easy mode once you understand the mechanics of that weapon. Quickest run has been just under 30 minutes (Shield+Poseidon boons).

Great game, btw.

Fastest/easiest weapon for me has been the Bow with the straight Crit modifier. Get a high damage % Boon for Attack, Aphrodite or Poseidon is probably best. Daedalus' hammer provides the 5% Gold to Damage modifier, autofire and remove charge, or double shot, or triple shot, or close/far range increased Attack damage, and you got a stew baby. Stack damage reduction, get an invincibility Call like Ares or Athena or Poseidon... Some Dashes...

Using the Mirror's last ability to allow re-rolling the current Boons on screen to give a better chance at getting the right slot or rarity boons is pretty important.

Fastest time around 19 minutes with Fists or Bow I think and 16 or so Heat. Game's good.

Funny enough my *best* weapon is Exalibur. Did a 15 minute clear with 10 heat ob excalibur, was doing 2k+ crits to hades and with the Athena call I just stood there and wacked at him till he died about 45 seconds later.

I think my favorite weapon is the fists with magnetic cutter. But I've beaten 12+ heat with every weapon at this point.

Picked this up on EGS for pretty cheap - started playing yesterday. Quite good, one of the better roguelikes I've played (typically I don't like the genre). Always feels like you are making some sort of progress every run, and it's cool that more stuff opens up over time.

I'll try it again, it didnt do much for me the first time I played it but that was upon release, perhaps now its more interesting.

I bought this last week after a friend recommended it. It's fun, but I'm not sure I understand it completely. Do I ever skip forward after clearing a level or do I have to re-do the whole chabang every time?

You repeat the levels. They're randomly generated, but you're always completing the same depths, in the same order, with the same boss fights.

When you get far enough, you eventually add difficulty modifiers to them in order to continue obtaining the currency items that bosses drop.

Each 'run' is unique in the sense that the story progresses after every death, you unlock weapon/skill upgrades, etc.

I think I'm started to "get" it and am having a good time. I do seem to have hit a wall with the boss fight that includes both the minotaur and warrior champion guy at the same time. I've gotten moderately close to winning a couple times, but by the time I even get there I'm usually down to my last life. The fact that it takes me 20'ish minutes to get back (if I even can) there is a little daunting, too.
Is there any way to speed up the process of getting back or anything like that?

Only way to speed up the run is to "get good". Soon you'll be whooping Theseus' and Asterius' asses without even worrying about taking damage. Usually takes me 10-15 minutes to get to that point (Full game clear in 16-20 minutes on average) and that's way behind the really skilled folks.

I think the the progression of my game knowledge and skills were what really drew me in to Hades. After my first completion I wasn't sure there was much reason to continue and the Pact of Punishment that unlocks (allows use of setting gameplay modifiers that make the game more difficult) just seemed unnecessary. I mean once I beat a game I'm generally not going to go back and play it just because it's more difficult. But Hades kept bringing me back with the "Damn, that run was tough but I almost made it and there's STILL new dialog and shit to unlock. One more run." Before long it started to feel pretty easy even on higher heat runs (20 is my max so far which is way below the pros) but it was still a fun challenge and quite rewarding IMO.

I feel like I'm definitely improving...although some of my improved success is due to the mirror and such. I've made it to Hades 4-5 times, but I have yet to kill his 2nd form. Usually because I'm pretty beat up by the time I get there. After not having a ton of issues with Theseus initially, he has become a pain in my ass of late. Him and all of those damned poison enemies in the last area. Is there any trick to finding the "right" reward door in that area? Any weapons tips? I feel comfortable with most everything except the bow. The times I've done the best have been with the sword, shield, and machinegun.

Whew, okay - I finally beat Hades. I have the most success with the machinegun's bombs powered up to be giant/strong but inflicting friendly fire. That combined with Dionysus' "Trippy Shot" is hell on wheels as long as I can stay moving. I also do well with the 3x bombs ability.

It's a neat but simple game and I can see myself popping in here and there to play more. I still can't use the bow for shit, but I can at least get to the final area with all the other weapons.

Trying to avoid spoilers
but did you "beat" Hades or did you beat Hades?

Try the bow that loads your cast as an attack. Then pick up cast damage buffs and boons like Trippy shot; absolutely wrecks. I initially didn't like the bow but I think it has some of the most fun hammer upgrades and builds. The "machinegun" special unlock is super fun to experiment with also.

I've played a fair amount of Hades, I've managed to get to at least heat 15 with every weapon (beating all the heats up to that point.) for well over 200 completed runs. I wouldn't really call it "simple" as some of the boon synergy combinations for late game take a pretty damn good understanding of the mechanics.

Maybe "simple" isn't the right word, but it's not a huge game with 500 enemy types or anything like that. There are boatloads of weapon/boon/cast combos, though.
