[H] Stock Alerts, Tips & Tears 2025

I lived in apartments right off the 101 next to where the old MC was in Sunnyvale. I got a lot of goodies when it closed down.

But in terms of serious electronics hobbyists, frys had the microcontrollers, digital logic chip selection similar to what you might find for bolt selection at hardware stores.

I don't remember any of that so maybe it was past the time or I am thinking of another chain like it. I remember I went expecting computer stuff and thought it looked just like a Virgin store or Best Buy with tons of CDs and DVDs, and not much else. This goes to show how long ago it was. Maybe it was just the Vegas store though.

I can't speak to other locations, but the Georgia ones were like a combined Compusa, Radioshack, Best Buy, Gamestop, and a small mall bookstore and video/audio store. They were that size too. About the size of a Costco or Sam's Club. When they started going downhill, all the shelves started going empty, and then they finally closed down. I heard that the guy running the company had a gambling issue and used company money to fund it, and because it was a private company he pretty much got away with destroying it.

As an aside, I loved Virgin Megastore too! My dad took me to Universal in Orlando in 1998 and we went to the one in downtown Disney and it just so happened to be the launch week for Half-Life. They had a computer running it and I had never heard of it before and knew nothing about it but I bought it just from seeing the awesome intro riding the tram.

Was helping a friend with a new build and realized 9800x3d are oos everywhere.
I checked multiple times earlier today, but it suddenly came back in stock at Antonline. Good call on the vendor!

Not an audio recording, but this gives a better picture of what the ASUS fans are doing exiting zero RPM + with no load just manual start.
About 11 seconds for the fans to start. Ramps up to 2600 RPM before dropping to 1900 RPM (65%).

I haven't used an ASUS GPU in years if ever.
XFX 5700 XT, EVGA 3060 Ti FTW3, Gigabyte 3060 Ti Gaming OC, FE 3090, Gigabyte 4090 Gaming OC, PC 7900 XTX Hellhound. Might of missed one, but none of them had this issue when gaming / putting load on the card.

These are my fan settings in GPU Tweak. It seems to have reduced the really sudden fan spin up at startup, though it hasn't been quite as hot recently. I've still been playing FF7 Rebirth since the last post and no longer get the annoying loud start up, though again, temperatures went down for the past 2 weeks.

The default seems to want to keep the temperature at 65C with 55% fan speed, I pushed it up to around 71C. 71C as a target temperature for 55% should still be cool enough. I increased the update period and hysteresis to.

Already OOS. I would like to believe from bots/scalpers, but I'm sure there's plenty of gamers with more credit than sense are still buying 3k cards, seeding the path for 5k xx90 cards and $500 xx60 cards for next generation and beyond.

Not always gamers though since local AI models are only growing in size. Nvidia is still the best option if you want to work with AI.

The 5080 and 5070 fes seem to have been in plenty of stock on the bb drop this am, was able to checkout a 5070 no issues at all. Too bad 5090 is still unobtanium..

Anyone have experience with buying an Open Box GPU from Newegg? Reading their info it sounds like there is no warranty?

Last time I bought one was a 780ti (been awhile, I've shopped there over the years since but not open box) and it was 30 days before the manufacturer warranty took over. Some brands won't honor an open box under their warranty, so I'd check their respective page first.

Never mind...

"Open Box items consist of items that have been previously opened and may have either been unused or have very minimal use prior to being returned. These items are inspected to ensure they are in working condition and may undergo minor repairs. Newegg only guarantees your receipt of the Open Box product with the purchase of this item. Accessories and/or retail packaging MAY OR MAY NOT be included. Newegg will NOT send out any missing accessories, even if they are required to use all of the item’s functions. Open Box items usually do not come with manufacturer or vendor warranty or technical support. However, warranty may be available if an item was never registered by a previous owner. Please contact the manufacturer directly to verify."

Knowing Newegg, the 16-pin cable would be missing and the GPU would have been registered by the previous buyer lol.

That’s part of open box. Who cares. I’ve contacted the manufacturer and had the warranty transferred it’s easy. I’ll take the savings!

Yeah for open box by Newegg it’s basically been “you’re on your owns regarding them assisting in any warranty claims. However that’s kind of their policy anyways, where they assist in returns within 30 days but after that it’s warranty through the manifacturer

For a GPU would probably be ok, as generally any issues would show up either very quickly or much later due to a widespread manufacturing issue in which the warranty claim is easier to validate.

If near a microcenter, nearby, Walmart or other b&m would go that route.

It sure about nationwide, but the MCs near me (nyc) all got restocks of the 9070xt steel legend at $700 which is just about the best price you’ll find atm.

Also it’s a decent looking white card with rgb and slightly upgraded fans and cooling vs some other offerings. At least 11 in all 5 stores on the area, get it while it’s hot

Awesome card! Got one open box on Sunday (under $600 pre-tax due to 5% off with MC card, too - Happy Father’s Day to me) - outside of a bit of coil whine it’s a monster. (Yes, board is at 5.0 x8 - have a backup board I need to swap to at some point but it's not affecting performance).

Nice undervolt and OC going - here's where I am stable so far - icy temps. Still Hynix GDDR6 (after 3DMark Steel Nomad stability test):

Meh , overpriced still! And you're assuming you'll get the rebate and gift card. Just put it at that $770 on sale then maybe we can call it a deal Newegg lol.

Micro Center has the PNY 5080 EPIC-X RGB OC sale for $1199.99. Lowest price I've seen without it being a used card here for sale. Of course, you need to live close enough to one.

The Msi 5070 ti at $770 is less overpriced than the pny 5080 at $1200 IMO.

Even though the inspire isn’t the best OC card you can still get roughly 85% of the performance for 65% of the price. And if you want to resell when the supers come out the 5070ti will hold its value way better than the 5080s. Can easily see the 5070 ti 16gb sell for around $600 used at that time ($170 or 22% loss) vs the 5080 16gb which will portably sell for around $850 ($350 or 29% loss).

MSI Ventus (I know it sucks) is for sale for 2609 on Amazon. Might be worth picking it up if you are desperate.

Even my local Walmarts have the PNY 5070 TI for MSRP on the shelf. Up until last week the 5070 was the highest card they even carried in the physical store. Kind of mad at myself for spending 80 above MSRP for a Zotac 5070 TI about 2 weeks ago...

You did the best you could with the info you had at the time. Don't get mad over that.

I'm like no way. Look at my local walmart online (which is in the middle of montana btw). In stock.

Like I said in the Amazon Prime thread last couple of weeks would have been a great time to buy parts for a new PC build. The FOMO from the previous months this year were insane and I'm sure there is a lot of buyer's remorse out there.

I just finished buying parts for a new build. About a week ago, I picked up a MSI MPG 870E Edge Ti for $269.99 from newegg. The Tomahawk 870 board was also on sale for $219.99 everywhere. I got a 9950X3D during Prime Days for $665.99 or something like that. It's cool that GPUs are coming down.

I did have to buy watercooling stuff from 3 different places and it was considerably cheaper to do it that way even when considering I could have bought it all at one place to save on shipping. I bought 5 liters of coolant direct from Koolance, a CPU block from modmymods, and an AM5 offset bracket from titanrig. Unfortunately, I didn't get anything from perfomance-pcs. They didn't have the coolant or the AM5 offset bracket in stock and the cpu block I wanted was priced 50% higher than what I paid. Titanrig actually had everything, but even with their shipping promotion, it would have cost me an extra $30 or $40. You definitely still have to shop around.

Make sure to check the little caged area behind the register in electronics at Walmart. I have seen plenty of 5070 and even 5070 ti cards on clearance because they were returned. I know for a fact some where never even used or opened by a customer but store policy requires them to open and verify the item and then they mark them for clearance.

MSI dropped prices again. 5090s at reasonable discounts at their store.
Gigabyte Aorus master dropped a 100 to 2899.
Asus TUF OC is now 2800 instead of 3000.

Personally if I were purchasing a card today I would opt for a Suprim at 2700 or Vanguard at 2500. Both are great AIB parts even though they may not clock very high. The temps and noise alone make it worth it.

Why do you know this for a fact?
