GTX X80

Think intel with haswell-e. Most had them releasing it sometime mid september, however they pushed the date up to next week (august 29).

It is possible nvidia had an october release planned all along, but maybe they feel it's ready to go by next month.

It would probably be wise of them to at least push out info on the 860/870 sooner than planned, to perhaps beat Tonga to the punch on Sept 2nd. And if they let the 860/870 out of the bag early, they might as well spill the beans on the 880.

Maybe hard launch 860/870 before the 1st, and soft launch the 880 on the same day?

Tonga is competing with 1gen Maxwell.

Are you sure? Videocardz is reporting that the upcoming Tonga R9 285 and 285x are to compete against upcoming Maxwell cards (I'm assuming the 860 and/or 870)..

Both cards will challenge upcoming Maxwell graphics cards with aggressive pricing and power efficient architecture.

And actually, the announcement of those cards should be tomorrow, with availability on Sept 2nd.. so if they are to compete with the new 800's, then Nvidia should be getting some details out ASAP.

Announce on a Saturday? Unlikely, I would think.

Tomorrow, August 23, AMD will host a public livestream from their Lone Star campus in Austin, Texas. The event will commemorate “30 Years of Graphics & Gaming at AMD” and be hosted by the company’s outspoken industry veteran Richard Huddy. AMD plans to announce a new product during the event, and all signs are pointing to a next -generation line of PC graphics cards.

His feed was actually transmitted back from 10 days in the future and captured yesterday for today's live event. That's why the cameraman was recording the projected image, and not videotaping Kyle in person. :D

(and the circuits you see behind him aren't really behind him, *they're a part of him*.. and that's how he is able to time-travel)

Any new rumors or announcements expected for PAX Prime on Friday?

Probably not. Apparently there is some super secret event on September 12th Nvidia is hosting that nobody really gives a fuck about because we've been disappointed since GTC in March.

Any new rumors or announcements expected for PAX Prime on Friday?

I haven't seen anything on the schedule from Nvidia or any of their partners, unless they somehow sneak into the Intel future of pc gaming event....

Regardless, if I see or hear anything at PAX, I'll share it here asap.

Yeah, they're not on the schedule, but listed as having 2 booths at PAX.. so probably nothing.

If you stop by, be sure to ask their reps if the 880 will be more powerful than the 780Ti.. and when they say they can't talk about it, you say "so.. you're telling me the 880 isn't as powerful as the 780Ti then?" Repeat this back-and-forth at least 5x until they get a constipated look on their faces, and then we'll discuss it later on here for a few weeks :D

AIBs are not ready yet :)

Edit: Some resellers had the cards on AUG 20th... but in little stock. So NV postponed the announcement by a few days :)

Edit 2: Also, Kepler is going nuts!
The 780 won't be available for much longer so anyone wanting a great deal or is considering an SLI upgrade, then do not wait too long.

So I wasn't wrong to ask when the 900 Series was coming out?

lol this is just too much

Not the first time they've done this, if true. Nvidia did skip the 300 series.

Right. Hope that the added numerals is justified by added performance too. :)
Surely new cards will be faster but I don't dislike some 40% more

Agree.. this is kinda weird.

So does this rename make the 980 perform better than the theoretical 880Ti would have? :p

..also, this really makes me wonder how SoL knew enough to title this thread X80 a month ago

Let's just say from talking with him in general I think it's more than a lucky guess. :p But I don't mind hearing some of the misinformation since the "good stuff" was easy enough to sort through :D.

Like saying AIBs don't have enough cards but resellers already have cards, 3.5 weeks before a paper launch?

In general, naming scheme is not important. Blue Moon, that is the Maxwell code name used at Nvidia...

Now, I was the first to mention September 9th Press Event and now it is on Rumor Sites... (sigh :p)

AIBs are getting ready as it took a few more days longer than originally planned.

Names or nm doesn't matter. If they can bring the performance/price to more affordable levels then it will be worthwhile. If a 780ti performance level card could be had for $300 then it would be a worthy upgrade for those with GTX 660/670s.

But I doubt they will do that...

You were also the first to mention it would be launched in July... and then August... but now it is September with availability in October...

Nice try.

"Some of you will ask why did we report about 880 and 870 last month. It’s because the decision to rename GeForce 800 to 900 series was made just recently, at the time these cards were codenamed exactly how we reported."

This doesn't sound right. Partners would need much more time than that to print all the packaging and marketing material.

rumors are often based on nothing, if 900 series is true, this confirms that they throw out rumors based on nothing.

NV did not change the naming of upcoming cards, LOL. That is BS. :D

They taped them out for one naming scheme from start..

Your point is confirmed though..
