GTX X80

With haswell-e being two weeks away from launch, it would make sense for nv to release their new product sooner rather than later.

Any news on the finale? I couldn't find a stream (just that taketv crap) and I'm not seeing anything on news sites. Extremely disappointed if there wasn't even anything at all. Foolish me getting my hopes up.

It was absolutely nothing, unfortunately :(. Not even a random shield announcement  .

And this is why I forced myself to focus on the games, not Nvidia. At this point we just want to see something cool since we now know Maxwell > Pascal.

Yes, NVIDIA will some day release an 800 series.

But not this week.

We can keep speculating, "It's coming! It's coming!" And in due time we'd be right.

I'm guessing the paper release will be at the event Nvidia has scheduled for the middle of September that certain members of the press have been receiving invitations to... Just my guess though.

Probably. 1.5-years between launches is just insane, though. 800 better be 20nm and a damn good improvement, or Nvidia are gonna look very bad with this release.

Not sure why you guys expect an announcement so soon. Generally NV doesn't announce a launch until it is imminent. And if it's the end of September...wouldn't expect much until september.

Like within 2 weeks or so. Doing so earlier would screw their AIB partners and cannibalize sales, which i'm sure NV doesn't care since EOL'ed the 700 series anyway...but AIB's are still selling the old stuff. Don't think they'd appreciate it. AMD generally does the same, 2 weeks within launch. The 290X was launched in September at their press event in Hawaii, and they began pre-orders the next week IIRC.

Captain Obvious...

It's going to be 28nm and still a damn good improvement IMO based on the architecture. The 750ti achieved 3 times the performance over Kepler at the same TDP (750ti Maxwell = 60W TDP, GT640 Kepler = 65W TDP), so simply based on that fact alone...if NV pushes maxwell up to a 200-225 W TDP for an 880, it will be a lot faster than the 780ti. It will probably be similar to the jump between the 580 and 680, which was a pretty good jump (35% or so)

My speculation is that i'm not expecting anything akin the an 8800 ultra type of jump, but it will be a good jump above prior gen I think. As far as 20nm goes, concensus is that it isn't ready. Could be wrong but NV is probably waiting on TSMC to get their stuff together, and when they do, they'll be working on GM200 on 20nm next year. That's my guess. But still on 28nm GM204 should be a nice jump over the 780ti (on the 880)

There might be a bit of a fuss over at NV... But as previously reported by FUD, NV will have to host an event in the beginning of September which is possibly an unveil Maxwell event:

NV will also be present at Gamestop Expro at that time where they might showcase X80 as well.

Expect the announcement to be held starting late August as it is usually ~1month time after press gets a hold of a new NV gpu. which they did on 13th.

RAWR! They are L00k bad!

But seriously, why do you care what it's manufactured on? What if it's way faster but still on 28nm? Do they look bad? What if AMD doesn't release a new high end card until next summer, does Nvidia still look bad?

If you don't like it, go buy a 290x. On 28nm.

Cause I do. Good for them. Yes, yes, and no.

So you think it's awesome when manufacturers sell the same shit for years on end?

My suspicion is that nvidia planned the 800 series for 20nm quite awhile ago and when it eventually became clear that TSMC couldn't come through, they had to go back to the drawing board and make some adjustments for 28nm and that caused a delay.

But I have no evidence to support that.

Laws of physics dawg. Unless some radical design changes (which Maxwell 30% boost is or isn't depending on how you look at it), then a node change is critical.

There's nothing from stopping a chip on 28nm that is 10,000x times better than Kepler. I'm not being sarcastic either. The chip would be the size of a damn wafer or two, but the process doesn't really hold anything back other than size. Which leads to how the hell they're going to produce a 30-50% better chip, as some reports are claiming, where the die would have to be bigger than anything produced by Nvidia, all for less than the price of the 700 Series? I know yields get better as nodes mature, but that is some serious voodoo magic or Nvidia hired Joseph Goebbels for their PR Manager.

So you are suggesting "press" and "resellers" got the new GPUs on August 13th but Nvidia is doing an "unveil Maxwell event" in September with availability on the same day or shortly after?

880 was previewed to the press already. on 13.

I talked on leaks in my previous post but still, you guys have little info on 880 and at the same time, it is all there, just go on the different site with all the specs to be found there. ;)

Anyway, NV is quiet about public announcement but some local resellers do have new gpus in their closet.

Possibly, with the release for reviewers being made. Quiet launch ;) from NV .

Can you post the link (here or via pm) who you heard the info from too?

FYI- Press/reviewers get the card about a week before launch/end of NDA to prevent leaks. Distributors/resellers, depending on the performance tier, might get cards a couple of weeks ahead of time at the longest.

Edit- What GPU are you running right now Sin? Just wondering why you are so interested in Maxwell.

So it's going to be another tablet event.

NVIDIA is really pushing this Shield platform thingy.

Which seems shortsighted in the age of exponential cellphone development but it's their dollar. I'd like to see an interesting flagship come out.

Be admitted early with your VIP pass on Tuesday, September 9, hang out in the VIP lounge, attend panels featuring industry insiders, and go to battle in the tournaments on the Battle Stage. The finals from each tournament will take place the next day.

Both events on the same day specifically mention the Shield. NV is up to smth alright.. hawking them tablets.

Son, I am disappoint :D

Isn`t it all we have been waiting for? :D

As a lot of reviewers pointed out, the release date does not come pre-determined.

As far as I am aware, we just gotta hold on for a bit more...(~1y)

Hopefully Nvidia will re-design the Titan cooler this time, would be awkward if they just changed the number on it.
Even if they just change the way the shroud looks.
