Grim Dawn Alpha starts tomorrow

https://forums.crateentertainment.com/t/upcoming-changes-to-the-shattered-realm-v1-1-9-0/105415/1

To make sure that nobody is caught by complete surprise with Grim Dawn’s upcoming major update, we’d like to outline some significant changes we are making with v1.1.9.0, especially as it pertains to the community’s recent efforts to come up with a rating system for build performance 82.

With Forgotten Gods, the Shattered Realm offered an alternative endgame progression. As it scales effectively forever, the intent had always been that eventually a character would not be able to progress any further. Where this stopping point should be is up to some debate and everybody has their own opinion on that.

However, a style of play has become prevalent in the community that we feel is detrimental to this game mode and to creating a fair environment for everyone playing. For those not in the know of what we are referring to, in the current version of the game it is possible to alter boss aggro behavior by rotating the game camera and zooming in.

This “camera abuse” has allowed players to work around the intended design of fighting the boss spawns in unison and effectively pull them one at a time, even if the bosses stood right on top of each other. However, it is a finnicky method that can backfire and some consider it to be a display of skill to pull bosses this way. It is also not something the average player is even aware of.

We are calling this behavior exactly what it is: exploiting game mechanics.

With all that said, it has also become apparent that the community has settled on a certain way of playing in the Shattered Realm game mode that is not exactly how it was originally envisioned, but nevertheless seems to be popular as it allows for builds to clear higher shards than they otherwise would.

To address this issue, with v1.1.9.0, we are going to make three major changes:

  • Boss spawn locations, particularly at high shards, will be updated. Bosses at endgame shards will spawn in a 1-2-1 pattern, meaning there will be 3 groups of 1 Boss, 2 Bosses, 1 Boss.
  • Boss aggro behavior will be changed. Bosses will have a much smaller aggro radius, allowing you to pull them with more control without having to rely on gimmicky exploits. However, the 2 boss pack will almost always aggro together (those guys like to wander about, we certify our bosses are 100% free-range).
  • The camera abuse behavior will be fixed. Rotating the camera or zooming in will have no impact on aggro behavior within the Shattered Guardian Domains.
Combined, we feel that these changes will make for a more predictable experience in the Shattered Realm that is accessible for all players rather than requiring insider knowledge on abusing a game mechanic while also maintaining the style of play in the Shattered Realm that has been popularized by the community.

In addition, without the ability to hamper boss aggro mechanics with an exploit, proper position and execution of the boss encounters while avoiding aggroing additional nearby bosses will help elevate and exemplify player skill when climbing Shards.

Along with new Shattered Guardian Domains in v1.1.9.0 182, we hope that these changes will lead to an improved experience for everyone enjoying the Shattered Realm. slight_smile.png

- no more cam abuse in SR? I suppose all good things come to an end..

V1.1.9.0

[Major New Features]
  • The Shattered Realm’s fractured reality reveals new secrets. 20 new areas have been introduced into the Shard pool, including 4 new Shattered Guardian’s Domains.
  • The Shattered Guardian Set has received a visual update to make its splendor even more impressive. For those that preferred that old appearance, it is still available as a cosmetic option from the Splendors of the Shattered Realm vendor.
  • Three new Legendary sets have been added to the Forgotten Gods loot pool, 12 items in total. These sets are available exclusively in the Shattered Realm on Ultimate difficulty.
[Shattered Realm]
  • Increased monster Offensive Ability and Damage scaling at Shards 70+
  • Boss aggro behavior has been changed and their spawn positions have been updated in higher shards. Bosses now do not engage until you get closer. It is now possible to avoid pulling all bosses in a Shattered Guardian’s Domain without resorting to camera exploits.
  • Fixed an exploit involving rotating the game camera to dramatically reduce the aggro radius of nearby enemies.
  • Timer penalty for dying now scales much more aggressively with shards.
  • Carnage bonus for the Timer now starts lower but scales more aggressively with chain kills. The max time between kills is now also slightly shorter, meaning the bonus will be a little harder to execute.
  • Timer bonus for slaying Hero monsters has been reduced by 1s.
[Crucible]
  • Increased % Damage Modified bonus for pets granted by Might of Amatok to 20%
[Mod Tools]
  • Default max level has been changed from 100 to 200 for the purpose of spawning monsters from Proxy Pools for mods that wish to substantially increase the max level.
[Art]
  • Fixed missing model for Ghol’s Mark and Mark of Unlife.
[Animation]
  • Fixed an issue where Zolhan’s Technique does not hit with both weapons when dual wielding melee weapons on a female character.
[Tech]
  • Updated networkMTU to allow values up to 1500. The default remains at 1400 and should be appropriate for most users. networkMTU can be manually changed in the options.txt file.
[Game]
  • Increased % Health and % All damage scaling for all pets (with skill rank and/or level). This has been largely compensated by reduction of comparable bonuses in pet-themed sets. This change does not affect player-scaling pets.
  • Fixed an issue with several missing music tracks in the Forgotten Gods content. Enjoy 4 new old music tracks that were there all along.
  • Added a failsafe for players stuck on the A Cultist in the Midst quest after starting Ashes of Malmouth content. Don’t neglect your NPCs and speak to them!

As always, I'll post a fresh list for mods/utilities once they've all been updated (y)

What they need to do is fix the loot system. I swear they just assign random "green", "blue", or "purple" colors. At level 75 I still wear some level 50 green gear because it's better than level 75 blue gear. Also, why are level 75-80 mobs dropping level 50ish gear? I'm too lazy to fire up the game and look, but I think my DeathKnight is still wearing rings from level 20-30 because nothing better has come along. I know I'm bitching a lot, but I really do love this game.

For all you guys awaiting the Diablo 2 Remaster....

bb39924c96cec5d5b98a16a573352437714291ec.jpg
Long awaited update 0.7.0.0 is finally here.

Adding Act 6 campaign (visit Tyrael in Worldstone Chamber to start the quest), Trial of the Ancients (survival end-game event with faction rewards, replacing Shattered Realm, accessible after completing A6 campaign on Hell difficulty), Terror Event (Uber Tristram 2.0), new Uber Bosses, thousands of new items, new skills, completely reworked UI and much more.

Make sure to set Texture Quality in Video Options to High otherwise the new UI won’t show correctly.

Download:

ReignOfTerror_v0.7.0.0.7z (1,9 GB) Google Drive 14

ReignOfTerror_v0.7.0.0.7z (1,9 GB) GoFile 2

Installation:
  • Drag and drop “ReignOfTerror” folder (located in ReignOfTerror_v0.7.0.0.7z) into your Grim Dawn/mods folder and overwrite all files
Notes:
Changelog:

RoT 0.7.0.0 - Patch Notes

ENJOY!!

(FYI, you'll need to download v0.6.1.5 and then overwrite the files with v0.7.0.0)

PLEASE post your opinions/feedback here (the Dev's actually respond and the community has really helped shape this game into what it is today) (y)

Unfortunately, the 1.1.9.2 discussion thread has already closed - which would've been the perfect time to mention this....

EDIT: Grimham, please feel free to post about this too. All input is greatly appreciated on the GD forums lemme tell ya

- And yeah, rocking rare's is definitely an issue. They actually discuss itemization down to individual stats when developing upcoming patches.... which is cool.

The 1.1.9.2 thread for example: https://forums.crateentertainment.com/t/v1-1-9-2-discussion/108664

You know I think i preferred titan quest to grim dawn. Mind you I haven't played titan quest for over 8 years but when i did play i played multiple times with different builds. With grim dawn - i grew fairly bored after the first play through. Not sure why but I think the area design never grabbed me and the classes were over done. Maybe it was just a different age and i out grew these games but titan quest area design was a lot of fun - also i think for myself grim dawn, while titan quest on steriod, was a bit over the top a bit too much of everything.

Horror Show you hear anything else about that Grim Dawn 2 engine that Crate leaked on their website?

I've played almost every ARPG out there. Hech, I even played TL3 and enjoyed the shit out of it. Grim Dawn is still the best in my opinion. And I loved Titan Quest. I'm playing Warhammer: Chaosbane right now as I just purchased it from the Steam sale.

After SEVEN months in public beta testing, BEHOLD:

"Courtesy of our first ever public playtest, we give you Grim Dawn’s largest changelog…ever!

We hope you enjoy this massive list of improvements to the game’s balance that will hopefully give you many more opportunities to create your unstoppable monster slayers.

For the full list of changes, see below: "

(Obviously, I'll post all updated essential mods as they come in)

Enjoy!!

A small 1.1.9.3 Hotfix dropped -

V1.1.9.3 Hotfix
  • Fixed an issue with Deathly Waystones not allowing quick access to Shards 190+
  • Fixed an issue where transmuted Guardians of Empyrion would not activate their Celestial Presence
  • Fixed an issue where the Chamber of the High Council would remain locked after accepting the quest leading inside it
  • Fixed an issue where Mortar Trap’s Heavy Ordnance damage was not properly converted by skill modifiers
  • Ultos’ Tempest Set: reduced Targets modifier for Savagery to +2

Full Rainbow (Color-Based item filter, think Neversink from PoE etc.): https://github.com/WareBare/WanezGD_Tools/releases/download/v0.5.5/fullRainbow-1.1.9.0.zip

(Try and tell me that ain't sweet  )

** IMPORTANT NOTE: "Because the inventory and bags have switched, you may have items that you can’t click on, etc. This is usually solved by an auto-sort, however, my advice is to empty your character bags and inventory (into your smuggler’s stash) before installing the mod."

Enjoy friends and game on!!

Has there been any talk on a graphics overhaul or anything?
I've been a huge fan of Iron Lore and Crate Entertainment since Titan Quest and really like what they've done with Grim Dawn (I threw down $100 before the kickstarter was even a thing) but I absolutely hate the graphic style of the game. There's something about the textures and models (more so the textures) that are the visual equivalent of nails on chalkboard to me. I can't really explain why but it drives me nuts. I haven't found any texture mods to alleviate the issue and I'm really hoping that Crate has something planned in the near future to improve the visual fidelity of the game. I'd even pay full price for an updated version.

I wanna say I know what you're talking about.. Back in early access, I seem to recall turning down the Shader setting helped. But, I eventually turned it back up once my eyes adjusted etc.

Besides that, I'm currently runnning it at 4k DSR with a TINY touch of sharpness via Nvidia control panel.. Still looks pretty good to me?

- To answer your question though, no talk of an overhaul whatsoever. We're in maintenance mode now.... (Only continued balance/bug-fixes)

EDIT: Just remembered, there's a setting in Grim Internals that completely disables Fog.... A lot of ppl swear it makes the game look MUCH better..

Also, here's a good ReShade option - https://www.nexusmods.com/grimdawn/mods/100

Any way to do it if you bought this on GOG?
Just picked this up this past week after seeing this thread and amount of praise people have for the game. Anything to keep in mind for someone just starting out?

Anyone wanna talk about this game? Cuz I really wanna talk about it lol. Just picked it up on Steam sale and am having such a blast. Honestly having more fun than I did in D2:R. Way late to the party.

Currently playing on normal which is probably too easy. Just trying to figure everything out as I go, currently using a pyromancer, took me only a few days to get to level 45 playing like crazy.

It's an amzing Arpg. horrorshow is the man for information. Get the xpacs.

I consider it the best ARPG and I've played most all of them. The hardness should ramp up the further you get into the game.

Play Online its good but once you finish it not so much. Shadows of Awakening is also a good game.

Normal is basically GD's version of Easy. (You barely have to worry about Resistances at all - among of things)

I'd highly recommend rolling a new toon at Veteran difficulty.

It definitely has, my only complaint is that it can just happen so fast without warning, half the time I die I don’t even know what happened or why my life drained so fast, could actually use a rumble feature in the mouse lol.

What does that even mean lol. Do you mean just make a new character for the different difficulty levels?

I just started Elite difficulty with the same character at level 49. Definitely dying a lot more, mostly to poison as my resistance is -25% lol, need to find something for that.

Yeah poison resistance is where I hit a wall as well....

Hopefully that'll prove useful (y)

Characters on Elite and Ultimate difficulty incur a resistance penalty.

- To answer your question: Normal also has a "Veteran" mode, for additional challenge, which increases monster damage and stats, as well as granting a +10% Experience boost. Veteran mode increases the challenge on Normal difficulty by making monsters stronger and tougher. You will also encounter an increased number of spawns, with a noticeable increase in the spawn rate of champion and hero monsters. With the increase in monster density, you will also notice an increase in the amount of loot that drops, making Veteran mode a rewarding experience for those that can survive its challenges. Be warned: it is not for the faint of heart.
