I've got 1k hours in the game and somehow have never actively played when a season was going on. Are they any good?

Little late posting this but a HUGE patch was released! (v1.2.1.0 + 2 hotfixes - current version is now 1.2.1.2)

"Grim Dawn’s latest major content update is now available on Steam and GOG (coming later this week to Xbox). With overhauled Nemesis spawns, rebalanced monster Physical damage and vastly expanded build options for pets you should find all new ways to conquer the endgame, or bring some old favorites back!

(Worth mentioning, this is Grim Dawn’s second longest changelog ever, short of the epic v1.1.9.2 changelog by just 67 lines!)"

- Includes all new animations for spears

I thought they had moved on from grim dawn and was working on a totally new type of game.

Just because they're a small studio doesn't mean they can't work multiple projects at once. AAA game development has become over bloated much like the movie industry.

Farthest Frontier is currently in early access and approaching a 1.0 release.
https://hardforum.com/threads/farthest-frontier-by-crate-entertainment-makers-of-grim-dawn.2018767/

They're also making another expansion for Grim Dawn called Fangs of Asterkarn that is expected to release some time next year.

Just started playing about a week ago after buying the base game on sale at Steam some months back. Game is oddly addicting. I'll probably pick up the expansions.

I seem to get lost quite a bit, map needs more info IMHO. Playing a straight up Soldier right now and I'm lvl 39, No particular build.. just winging it. Still no clue what the devotion tree does.

Going through Homestead on the main story line and not liking all the green shit on the paths that kills you fast.. can't even figure out what kind of damage it is.. Aether or lightning? Honestly cannot wait to be past this junk. It's just annoying AF.

Be nice if the blueprints for the armor sets dropped a bit more frequently. By the time I got 3 items in a blue set of 5 the rando greens and blue drops started giving better stats.

Likely do a bit more reading and play as some other classes but overall a fun game so far.

Great to hear! If you don't use a guide your devotion tree and your first character in general probably won't be able to do the end game bosses. That's ok though. The maps are actually pretty linear, In most instances you won't be able to explore where the game doesn't want you to without the appropriate quest. If there's a fork it's usually a side area that doesn't lead anywhere you aren't supposed to go. Just clear the maps, it's fun.

When you're wanting to start experimenting with different build varieties I highly recommend the smash n grab loot mod which boosts loot drops and xp gain so you can really test out different builds quickly

Might be there.. lol. Think I just finished the main game? Lvl 45 and I beat some big boss with tentacles and unlocked expert?

I know there were a couple of bosses I missed as I ran out of the "keys" to re-enter. Might be time to go find them.

Those are challenge areas similar to D3 rifts. If you die you have to make a new instance and use another key. The bigger end game bosses will require more exploration and perhaps some Googling.

Just googled a game map. I cleared up to Necropilis on the left side of the map but it looks like there is still some areas above Burrwitch estates and the korvan basin I still have not explored. I'll need to fanger out how to get there I guess.

Hopefully not too many areas with that green electric whatever all over the path. I've died more to that irritating shit than to game bosses.

Evil Scootr...did you say you're running a just a plain soldier??? If you haven't by now, I'd recommend (and literally everyone else) you pick a secondary class. Pretty much every class can and will synergize with every other class. Soldier can potentially be run solo but still will be better off with choosing something to go with it. You'll get way more hit points and many other bonuses investing fully into a second class. I always make it a priority to max out each class to the end. But you don't necessarily have to do that.

Also the green stuff on the ground is Aether. You're not meant to be walking in it (obvsly) even with high aether resist it will still chunk your health out in no time.

Yup.. straight Soldier. I have 3 buttons to mash only.. Forcewave, Overguard and Tonic of Mending when needed. Blade Arc is bound to my mouse left button.

First time in I wanted to keep it simple. Have not used devotion at all.. lol.

Current build..

^without trying to sound like an asshole, that simply is. not. very. good. You are putting yourself at an extreme disadvantage, and also more so by not using constellation points. There's so many good things in there. I'd just start dumping points into things. You don't have to focus on end game build stuff just yet, and you can respec those points at any time. Also there is a search feature in there, so just look for stuff that will synergize with what you're doing at the moment.

Just curious, how much HP do you have? 5000? It's not uncommon for current builds in current version of the game to have even upwards of 20,000HP. All of my chars have between 15 to 20,000HP. With 15,000hp considered to be a little on the low side imo. I can imagine with your setup you'd be getting one-shotted on the regular. Not fun imo. But yeah def. look into grabbing a secondary class. You might need Grim Defiler to completely reset your char at this point.

Think I have like 6100HP. Not getting one shotted, I'd have stopped playing by now if that was the case.. lol. This was basically a trial run to see if like the game at all.

I'll likely buy the DLC now and start again after I wrap up this run.. do some research on builds.

Just Dl and installed the DLC. Started a new game and build... Witchblade?
Honestly I would look up a guide. Choose guns, summoner, magic melee, magic spellcaster, etc and find a good guide. I built a retaliation thorns only build a couple years ago that was really fun to play online. Solo I think dual pistols are the strongest, at least they used to be.

Used to.... Tacticians ain't what they used to be

EDIT: Ok, I'll say something... 1. Yes, all the expansions are WELL WORTH your time/money 2. Please dual-class, it's essential to the game 3. Don't ignore constellations 4. Build up your resists, it's absolutely a must if you play on anything above Normal 5. Download "Rainbow Filter" - you'll thank me later once the game starts to really 'click'

Glad to see someone getting into the game for the first time! (Personally I still play 1.1.9.8 and have ignored all the recent updates involving Sunder and mass item changes, but I've been playing this game for almost 10 years now so I'm kinda stuck in my ways)

GD, Civ 5, and one of the Bethesda games modded-to-hell = will always be on my machine.

I'd type a more worthwhile post but I'm exhausted.

Game on you crazy diamond!!

In truth i liked titan quest a lot more than grim dawn - not sure if it was age or game presentation. Certainly grim dawn had seen more love but titan quest was so much fun... and i kind of found grim dawn dry and boring.

I just wish TQ got some of the modern QoL feature GD has when THQ made the Anniversary Edition.

Bought TQ back in 2012 and played for about an hour and a half.. uninstalled. This game has a better feel for me... this new Trickster build is a menace... lol.

maybe titan quest 2 will be decent or maybe a dud of course it is not the same developer. I thought these folks were going to make another game.

They've said GD2 will most likely happen at some point but is still a long ways off. There was also some talk about them making an RTS game I remember hearing set in the Grim Dawn universe using the various factions from the game. That could be pretty interesting but I don't know how well it'd sell. Just looking at the numbers, Farthest Frontier seems to be doing pretty good with almost 17,000 positive reviews on steam, honestly much more attention than I thought it'd be getting. I've never bothered to look into it as it's not really my cup-o-tea, but good for them anyway.

If anyone feels up to playing let me know, I have a 100 Forcewave Warden but never did any endgame stuff.

Well to be honest the oriignal developers will be long buried before they get to gd2. When we think about how long ago they started on titan quest to when they start gd2 it will be 30+ years..... and if gd2 takes 15+ years they have spent on gd .... well you get the picture...

I'd bet that in some ways work on GD2 has already begun. Maybe not in the actual building of the game assets just yet but things like story boarding, artwork, and engine work. I believe they said they are working on a new engine from the ground up and I'd image that has already been going on for some time now. I think not to long after FoA releases they might very well get started on it possibly. A little down time and then get to it. We'll start seeing some GD2 stuff in the next 5 years or so (wishful thinking).

*btw all this GD talk has got me rollin' another chartacter. Currently working on a Spellbinder, Lvl 50 and just starting Elite diff as of last night. I have a full Krieg's Armament set that I've been sitting on for a while and several nice Theodin Marcell's scepters to chose from as well as many nice MI rares and double rares (eventually going to be a fleshwarped strikes build, I reckon)

current roster:

just over 1200hrs

Eh I dunno, most of the old Iron Lore guys at Crate are right around my age (early 40s)

I expect after Farthest Frontier and the RTS are done, it's GD2 full bore
