I may be the only one, not having played any GTA since III even if I have both IV and V in my collection.
But when I look at the trailers for VI I just don't understand how driving a car down the road with a overweight lady twerking on the roof of the car beside you somehow is supposed to be the peak of living that should make you want to play this game so you can achieve the dream as well.
Maybe a thug life just isn't for me.

That's why I say, people buy massive Switch 2 and go karting all day with kids or other players.
I don't know but in my opinion rockstar could have started a new project instead of GTA 6. If you didn't know Max Payne 3 is a Rockstar game. They could have done something else other than twerking on a car.
They could have prepared GTA 6 for the PlayStation 6 launch.

Gta 5, rdr and rdr2 are still making a profit and they don't want to compete with nintendo switch 2, nintendo "ruined" this year for them.
On the other hand, borderlands 4 is coming out (and on switch 2 too) and mafia the old country is coming out which is a very similar game in terms of mechanics and graphics to rdr 2.
Even if half life 3 comes out...
So you think they delayed GTA6 to avoid all those heavy hitters?

Movie don't take 10 years to make either. I do agree that $2B seems way too high still.
The biggest modern movie project (if we exclude the soviet type that were bigger but hard to put number on) is maybe Avengers 3 part 1-2:

https://find-and-update.company-information.service.gov.uk/company/10068015/filing-history
999.06 millions pounds in total without marketing, around 1.33 billions USD, but I think those include some back hand deal.

I am not sure how we could judge a budget of a game and the efficacy of a studio without its ambition on the other side of the balance, that always depends on what you do and pushing the limits of video game on old PS5-XboxX is quite the challenge.

Yes, of course, there is also the new Battlefield 6 which I forgot about
The best thing for Rockstar and PlayStation would be to release the game and the new PlayStation 6 console together, the same thing Nintendo is doing now with Switch 2 and Mario Kart.
And Switch 2 still has an advantage because in addition to nintendo games it can now play both old and new Xbox games.

I'm just curious how they plan to make GTA 6 run on the Xbox Series S, it certainly won't look visually good. How much will it have, 15-30 fps and bad graphics.

GTA is the biggest game, other companies are avoiding their release date, not the other way around. Battlefield is not what it used to be. Last two games were poor sellers and received a poor reception. A lot of enthusiasm for DICE/Battlefield is dead. There is no reason to release it on a PS6. They want as many sales as possible so that would mean making it work on PS5, PS6, and all the other platforms. What they'd rather do is put it on PS5/Xbox and then probably port it Switch 2, and then PC. When the PS6/Xbox Series 720 comes out they will release a build based off the PC version for console owners to purchase again.

GTA6 is the biggest game of the decade. Other companies are trying to avoid releasing around it not the other way around.

Rockstar doesn't need the bump from the PS6...it'll be the biggest selling game of the year regardless...not even Half Life 3 will match GTA6

But isn't all these numbers part of the notorious Hollywood accounting practise, where among other things you inflate the cost as much as possible for tax purposes?

gta 6 is in "problem", it's not that much of a player's interest anymore, no one is complaining about the delay...
If half life 3 came out (not episode 3) then it would be the game of the century
This is just a list of games that threaten gta6 in 2026:

No it won't. GTA is going to destroy records and HL3. Stop fooling yourself.
I don't mean sales results and figures, rockstar did its job with rdr2, gta 6 doesn't even have to come out in 2026, I don't know how much you can trust them and whether that date for 2026 is final or they will postpone gta 6 again?
The only advantage is that they have time to polish the game, and that only means that it should be around $100.
Rockstar helped other games a lot with the delay of GTA 6, they don't lose almost anything and that's very nice of them, Nintendo and others can write letters of thanks to Rockstar.

If battlefield 6 comes out and is like bf3 and bf4 then it will break all preorder records.
Mafia the old country should also be great, especially for fans of the series.

You underestimate the casuals. Half-Life has never broken sales records, and the younger generation doesn't care about it. That article is also pure speculation, with most of those games not having any confirmed release window.

GTA5 is still one of the most popular games today. Nearly everyone knows what GTA is. It's so huge even random people that don't play video games know what it is.

Barely anyone plays Half-Life 2 anymore and a large chunk of the gaming market wasn't even born yet when it was released. If you ask a random person on the street if they know about Half-Life they're more likely to say it's how long it takes something to decay. If you ask someone what Grand Theft Auto is they're probably going to say a video game and not the crime.

Half-Life isn't even close to the same level as GTA in terms of popularlity. We're talking multiple orders of magnitude in current popularity and at least 1 order of magnitude in sales.

This, You can take Borderlands4, Half Life 3, BF6, Switch 2 with Mario and combine their sales figures together and GTA6 ill beat it within the first month.

Jus to put it into perspective. Im buying a PS5 Pro for GTA6. I wont do that for any other game. Yeah i could hold strong and wait for PC but in all honesty id rather just Buy the console and game and enjoy it. I played 3, Vice City, San Andreas, 4, and 5 on consoles when they launched. This one wont be any different for me. Then once its out on PC ill play it again, then like with 5 ill put mods and graphic enhancements on it and keep enjoying it.

Congratulations, I probably wouldn't play if I got a PS5 Pro and the game for free, I tried GTA 4 (I think) on PC a long time ago....

I just brought a PS5 pro Friday. Mainly for GTA6 and before Sony decides it time to raise the price to $1k.

It is not like there aren't other games out there til then.
There are a bunch of them, games like gta,gta alternative

"
It's not on PS4 or PS5 but Saints Row 2 is far and away the best modern times open world crime game other than GTA.

For games that are on PS4/PS5, I'd recommend Sleeping Dogs, Saints Row: The Third, Watch Dogs and Watch Dogs 2, Mafia Definitive Edition, Mafia II Definitive Edition, and Mafia III.

Just Cause 3 is also incredible (4 is alright but JC3 is better imo) but it's less about stealing cars and more about blowing up everything on the islands to overthrow a ruthless dictator.

And then there's the other Rockstar games, which are all similar in one way or another to GTA, Bully (often described as GTA in a school, although it's so much more than that) LA Noire (1940s Detective drama), Red Dead Redemption (often described as Grand Theft Horse/Wild West GTA, but it's also so much more than that), and of course, Red Dead Redemption 2, which is like RDR1 but way bigger and more realistic."

Those are Uk tax credits demands accounting, I do not know if they cheat more on them than the usual tax credits affair, but it would be a very different accounting that what people usually refer too as notorious Hollywood accounting practice, where they usually mean pre mid 2010s talents bonus calculation, which is its own predefined in a contract formula how they will calculate it, despite the name used for them, gross points, net points, etc... they are not on actual gross or net usually and people on a first big contract without an Hollywood agents will often sign without understanding or not in a position to sign something that make sense.

Paramount never said to Winston Groom that Forrest Gump did not made a profit like it is sometime reported (and certainly not too Hanks or Zemeckis that made one of the biggest payday in Hollywood history), they told him that if you go read the contract you signed, you agreed to a formula to calculate the movie profit that let us remove giant distribution and distribution expense... and also remove the big net participant share from the movie revenue. Some other net participant (Roth, Tisch, that had not the gross point of an Hanks-Zemeckis) got advance on future profit, it was not a studio saying a movie lost money, it was a studio saying to someone you signed a bad bonus formula. It is also common to count only 20% of the home entertainment revenues into the movie revenues when calculating those bonuses, that not something you say to the IRS.

They did pay him a million+ amount contract to write a sequel they never made to play nice at the end, which apparently is quite the script wrote by someone quite angry at the system. But I do not think that can play those game with the IRS of the world, at least not at the same level and same ways, they did to make up expense if they make them up at least.

I really can't stand these games with zero Moral. Gun dealers on TV sex in the city type of deal.
Largely why I didn't buy or play GTA5 I have the free version on Epic. Plus they didn't show any gameplay. Who is the game aimed for? Losers?

I don't mind San Andreas that gameplay is where it should of cemented the series

Well, I guess that's something to hold everyone over for the next year, and to gauge the reaction to see if they need to delay it further.

Nothing really new or unexpected in the trailer, but I'm not going to argue with some more insight into the story/world. To me, one of the best things about GTA4 is how they captured the vibe of NYC. GTA5 never really did that as well, but it seems like they're going for the gusto again with south/central Florida.

At this point GTA has 2 core audiences. The story portion of the game is aimed at Gen X and Y. The online portion is a bit more cross-generational, but it leans much younger. You can peruse YouTube and see who is posting what to pick up on their audiences really quickly.

kind of soft, a younger, more decent version than gta 5 with better graphics, the trailer is great, I want to buy it.(I won't, but the trailer is really great.)

The first time I ever tried GTA Online, I made my character, loaded in, and instantly heard some kid screeching on the mic.

Never tried it again and probably never will.

That's pretty much every online open mic-enable game. Been that way for a while, too. As much as I hate some games (and companies, like Nintendo) for not having voice chat, I totally understand why.

Love the trailer, girl be packing some bootayyy

Same. Love the single player part. Would rather have a co-op or just play with a few friends. Random kids are just annoying.

The thing is too. This is just a console trailer, and the game is coming out for consoles next year....PC will be what 6m to 1y after console release?

So, I aint even excited knowing that PC players will have to wait.
