Dan:
That's what I thought--am I out of the loop, or aren't they selling this unit as a separate model? I was pretty confident they were going to price this separately, and I am also pretty confident there was a thread or two discussing this (along with blatant "we hate Dell' messages.)
If they are just phasing them in with the existing 3007 line, this would somewhat encourage me to pursue Dell for my next monitor.... now if I can just find the box dimensions so I can calculate if it'll fit in my trunk or in my car.... *SIGH*
Back to the Internet I go!
I ordered a 3007 a few days ago. It should be here tomorrow. I cant wait. I just hope the single 8800 GTX is going to be enough for this thing. Im not really worried about it. But I am very excited to have widescreen gaming on my PC.
It is a different model. That's why Dell was pricing the regular 3007WFP so agressively. They wanted to get rid of the existing stock of them to make room for the 3007WFP-HC. The newer model has 92% color gamut instead of 72% and is an 8ms response panel instead of 11%. It also sports higher contrast ratios and brightness than the older mode. Really the 3007WFP is an amazing monitor, and if you can get it cheap enough, I think it's a good alternative to the newer higher priced 3007WFP-HC. The color gamut doesn't matter to me, and the response time of the older model is good enough for games. I've never seen any ghosting or any problems using the 3007WFP.
Some users have reported that they haven't been completely satisfied with the 3007WFP in regard to DVD playback. Though I have been.
It's unfortunate that people can't go see them side by side with other high performance monitors and judge for themselves. Sadly in these cases you have to rely on word of mouth and what you read in reviews.
In my opinion, all the 30" monitors that have come out so far all excellent. The 3007WFP is badass, the 3007WFP-HC should be great as well as it's a newer version of the older 3007WFP, and the Apple Cinema display kicks ass as well. The new HP 30" also gets pretty high marks. Unlike the other models the HP has multiple DVI inputs.
Even after all the great reviews for the 30" monitors I'm having some form of sticker shock from them. It's one of those "I have the money, but I can't justify it" situations.... it'll resolve itself out once I get closer to my LAN Party date (Feb. 9.)
Still need to measure my trunk to see if it'll fit in there (I seriously doubt I could wedge the entire box in to my back seat [2 door] so the trunk is the only viable option [without the bowling ball in it].)
From a purchasing stand-point what probably hurts me the most is I've NEVER seen a Dell 30". Nobody I know owns one, at the LAN parties I go to nobody has one and I've never been lucky enough to just "win" one so I can experience it for myself. I purchased my Viewsonic VX924 after a long LAN weekend lugging my CRT around, and I got it because it received fantastic reviews and was on sale at the time.
I'm not sure why I'm stressing over price.... I'm getting $500 for my old PC and $100 for the VX924 (promised a buddy I'd help him, so a low price for him.) I would think that would offset nearly any decent monitor's price....... too many poor choices at the sizes I want, and too many good choices at the sizes that are "too large but too good to pass up"!!
Is the 1280x800 mode actually usable for texts and daily use?
Well I own one, but I wouldn't take it to a LAN event. I've got other smaller LCD's I take to LAN events.
Additionally, the 30" is fine for all types of uses, but the actual size of the text is comparable to other monitors of smaller sizes. Honestly there are times while working in Windows that I find the monitor to be on the border of being too large.
On the other hand, it kicks ass for gaming.
Well, I measured my trunk and the box will have about 2" of clearance on the top, assuming I lay the box flat and slide it in. I can still fit a suitcase in the trunk, too! ...but not much else. *SIGH*
If I had a few more PC's at my place then I'd probably buy one of each--one for my primary rig and another for whatever secondary rig I have/get. Only NEEDING one monitor makes the decision just that much harder, and I'm running out of time (will need to allow no less than 1 week for shipping, probably closer to 10 days so I can set it up and test everything.)
As for you saying it can feel "too large" sometimes, I can completely understand that--I have two 19" monitors here at work and, even with fine-tuning my mouse settings to get the best speed without overshooting my icons, it's still pretty freaking huge cross-monitor.
I've never used 1600x1200--my monitor previous to this was a 19" Viewsonic CRT (one of their professional series) but the video card I had limited me to 1280x1024, before that was an OLD 19" CRT (retailed around $600 at Computer City in '98) that ran 1024x768. I'm used to 19" screens and I'm used to 1024x768 and 1280x1024 (or at work, 2560x1024.) Moving up to the top end will be a bit of a learning curve/adjustment for me.... I'll have to see what the best deal available is for the 30" Dell and figure out if it's right for me (duh.)
I've noticed people mentioning the 15% off coupons available on eBay, but I did a search for "Dell Coupon" on eBay and only saw a lot of the Desktop 10% off (or maybe it was $100 off) coupons. Getting another 15% would make this decision pretty well a done deal, any suggestions?
It's ok, but if you are going to go with that resolution because you can't see text at the monitors native resolution, you should consider a much smaller monitor.
** QUESTION **
I know it's been asked 100 times, but can NVIDIA's 8800 GTX HANDLE THIS SCREEN?!
That seems like a lame suggestion to me. A bigger monitor is always better for people with vision problems because you can just adjust the font size.

And how old is this f**king thread, people say it's like 1 year old?!
i run mine with a x1950xtx and it runs sensationally, in everything, i have css at 2560x1600 with every setting on maximum (6x AA, 16x Anisotropic... etc) and framerate averages at about 130fps
Does the 3007wfp still have uneven brightness as in the early reviews, or have they revised that?
Currently I am using an ATI 1800XT 512mb.. think it can handle this monitor?

I have the Apple 30" running with the 8800GTX in my sig, and WoW plays 2560x1600 with full options 4xMultisample smooth butter , Aslo play BetaField2142 at highest res 1940x? and 4xAA and it also plays nice, HalfLife2 2560x1600 6xAA/16xAF and runs like 100fps+, look's stunning
You can play BF2 at 2560 x 1600 by using this target in your shortcut:
"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 2560 +szy 1600
Works like a charm for me.
I had the X1800XT first wehn I bought my Apple 30" last year, and it played HalfLife2 2560x1600 4xAA, and it was pretty smooth, not as nice as my 8800GTX but playable. And WoW on the 1800XT could be played at 2560x1600 and looked so sweet but was just barley playable, some area's was perfect others got choppy, but 8800GTX plays whole game without thinking
...................nuthin to report really. I just wanted to say wassup lol!
Still enjoying my hp lp3065 no probs with it so far.
And yes, I did promise pics. Perhaps this weekend.
You are the [H] forums biggest procrastinator. It took you a year to buy a monitor and it will likely take another year for pictures of the one you did purchase.

Stalker, could you please take a picture while the monitor is displaying 100% white image? I would like to see if you have the same uneven backlight issue as I do with my 3065. I would appreciate it.
What do you mean uneven? Is it like slightly brighter in some of the corners? If so, then it was already determined that its due to viewing angle and not anything that is wrong with the monitor. Other than that every part of my screen seems to be pretty uniform in terms of lighting.
But I will check anyway as I take the pics.
I am gratified to see you finally made a purchase Now just to piss you off i am ordering a LG 128 incher ................. J/K
Check this pic: http://koti.mbnet.fi/jtsm/wsgf/IMG_2738.jpg
You can see brighter and darker vertical "stripes"... That pic was taken from a completely white image, do you have the same thing with your screen? put the screen viewing completely white and move the mouse cursor on the screen and follow the cursor with your eyes, do you see the same on your screen?
And no, I don't meen darker or brighter corners..
