Google Buys Ad To Explain Offensive Image

Everyone is a racist/prejudice in one way or another, EXCEPT ME. I'm an equal opportunity hater. I hate everyone the same, even my own "kind". :p

Note: The above statement is to be taken as a joke, don't be offended.

Everyone has their prejudices. Few are honest about it.

you're a d-bag, period.
No, I'm an asshole. We've been over this in previous threads.

The above statement is to be taken as a joke, don't be offended.
Too late. I'm grossly offended, sir! ;)

That said I'm not particularly offended and with some context this might even be funny but the image in and of itself is racist, pure and simple.
Racist, yep. The message implied is fairly obvious.

I'm very surprised anyone but Michelle Obama and members of her family would take offense to this, however.

I still don't understand what's the prob with this Country and Racism.

250 years of slavery, 100 years of legalized racial discrimination, and perhaps how Native Americans were treated has something to do with it.

People forget that we really are less than 50 years out from Jim Crow laws. We have a much longer history of slavery and legalized racial discrimination than not.

We had the same starting even before you did and we don't have that kind of problems. I think is simply because you just can't get over it. That 50 years from Jim Crow laws points toward that hypothesis is correct. I think race is just another reason to fight over.

If you're a black person in this country like myself and understand the history of blacks being considered an inferior race and the comparisons of blacks to apes, then yeah, sorry this isn't anything but a racist image.

That said I'm not particularly offended and with some context this might even be funny but the image in and of itself is racist, pure and simple.

Oh give me a break. Bush was called a fucking monkey daily, and nobody shouted racist all over the place. Get your panties out of a bunch please.

In fact, the first image when you Google Bush is this:

president-bush-eats-kitten-1259.jpg

It seems like a pretty mild jab. It "could" be racist, but you don't know that. Even if it is, people are free to be stupid.

OMG, all white people are KITTEN EATING BABOONS, I am so offended!!! How dare you! ARRHRHHHHHHHHH!!!!! :p You don't see anyone saying jack about that ;) . Precisely because it doesn't matter and is simply a joke, funny, stupid, smart, or not.

(tints image tone darkly)
(gets called a racist falsely saying he called all black people kitten eating primitives)

We have a much longer history of slavery and legalized racial discrimination than not.
And today, with affirmative action and the legal construct of so-called 'hate crimes', we still live in a society which encourages racial discrimination.

It's funny how things work sometimes.

And yet they continue to leave that website up in the search. I don't think google actually cares.

Google doesn't care about black people.

I kid. Having said that, I can't even see any anomaly in my search results (photoshops or whatever). What's everyone seeing?

Different reason...

Although I was surprised why no one ever offered him a bottle of whiskey or vodka.

Honestly as a white guy I do not really see that as racist IMHO. Michelle Obama isn't the prettiest black woman out there and while she does not look flat out ugly she is not that good looking either, just different. If anything I see that pic as taking a jab at that because that makes her look like an alien species in star trek or something.

Now...how many of you wouldn't mind getting some of this

Haven't you ever seen him give speeches and stumble while trying to piece words together into a sentence.

Pretty much why I mentioned the whole hard liquor thing.

And? What does that have to do with him being a monkey? I find that very racist. I'm calling the NAAWP.

And? What does that have to do with him being a monkey? I find that very racist. I'm calling the NAAWP.

well...humans are part of the great apes, but monkeys are a completely different suborder.

Now if you said "what does that have to do with him being a chimp (chimpanzee) that would have been a bit closer) b/c I recall that there were pics out there comparing him to a chimp.

I honestly don't know. Guess democrats/liberals hate Bush so much they had to vilify him any way they can.

Really? You don't know ONE person that is racist? I know a ton, and I live in CA and went to a liberal college.

I'm strictly speaking of people I know on a personal level. If someone asked me to point out someone I know that's racist, I simply couldn't do it.

Anyone who thinks they don't know a single person that's racist is either blind or just doesn't recognize it when they see it.

Nope, I'm not blind and I can recognize it when I see it. Have I seen people act racist? Yeah, of course, but they were random people in public places that I didn't know.

Sorry you guys have had different experiences.

Minorities in any country, no matter the color (white, black, yellow, whatever) will always find offense at things the majority think are small things. It's all designed to make them more protected given their lesser population. A smart move when you think about it.

Oh give me a break. Bush was called a fucking monkey daily, and nobody shouted racist all over the place. Get your panties out of a bunch please.

I feel it necessary to point out the obvious fact that Bush is not black. Bush does not come from an ethnic group with a history of being portrayed as simian with racist propaganda.

A history lesson would do you well.

Hell it took me 30 seconds to find CURRENT KKK propaganda calling black people "monkeys" doing a Google search.

When in the sought (Georgia and Missouri), I heard terms ranging from "ape" to "monkey" to describe black people.

The plain fact is that referring a white person as a monkey is not racist because it does not have a 200+ year history of being racist. Portraying or referring to a black person in that fashion has a completely different connotation. Anyone who denies that is being either ignorant or intellectually dishonest, and they know it. Any argument they make to the contrary is simply an attempt to justify the fact that they don't want it to be racist because they think it's funny and that would make what they consider "humor" racist in nature.

Black guy here. As far as I'm concerned internet racism doesn't count.

I'm totally serious. I don't bat an eyelash, even if its directed at me personally.

Going on...

How are we supposed to exercise our right to make fun of the guys/gals in power with our current prez? Its going to be pretty hard to make fun of Obama and his family if almost everything used against them can be construed as being racist.

So is there a checklist to follow, aside from putting "I'm totally not racist, I have plenty of black friends." in bold letters somewhere on or near the pic, to not be accused of being racist whenever Obama or his family is made fun of?

Meh, I don't know if the creator of the pic had racist intentions or not and I'm not going to bother digging. Thats not to say that anyone should be belittled for being offended, but I, personally, could care less.

Maybe some day this nation will have moved forward enough to realize that comparing black people to various non-human primates is juvenile, racist, and idiotic. I'm not holding my breath though.

Yup.

We can call Bush a chimp, but not Obama.

Oh wait... Treating someone differently because of their race is racism.

Whoops, you're a racist.

You really just don't get it do you?

Here is why there is a difference.

For more than 200 years, white people subjected blacks to slavery, ever since, they've been subjected to racially loaded attacks. In American media, apes, baboons, etc. were used for decades to depict black people as a whole. Derogatory terms like "ape", "coon", "porch monkey", etc.have been used by racists for decades towards black people.

There is no such history referring to white people in the same context. None.

You can attempt to twist out from under that all you like, but you can't erase history.

When you compare a white person to a chimp, you merely compare that individual to a chimp.

When you compare a black person to a chimp (or any other type of monkey), you carry along hundreds of years of such comparisons and their racial roots against an entire race, not a single individual.

It's that simple.

Like I said, you can try to twist out from under that, but unless you can erase hundreds of years of history, you're just showing ignorance.

Wait a minute, pull this bus over to the curve. How many of those hundreds of years where you subjected to that? How about what the Irish? Should we stop potato jokes and redhead jokes? Or how about (insert nationality here)?Honestly yes, will we, no. How about Navy jokes....I mean come on they call themselves Seamen, need I say more! Words and pictures only have a much weight as you give them. All racism does is put one class, race, nationality down so you can lift the other up, it doesn't matter how long of a history it has. Also have you ever wondered why it is alright for (insert race here) to use racist remarks against themselves but when some other race does it suddenly it is the end of the world?

/end rant (sorry that went longer then I thought it would)

dont need to apologize, your spot on cannon

Racism exists because the minorities won't let it go. I don't know anyone that was a slave, do you? But I have lost a job before to a person (not black btw, but another race) because I was white and they needed more non-white empoyees. Only way we get rid of racism is to get rid of all treatment towards any one race, I didnt get extra money when I went to school because I was white, but black kids and indian kids and hispanic kids all got more than me (with lower grades I may add), and they were all my age, non were slaves or what not, they all were just kids like me that went to public schools and then tried to go to college. How is that fair, isnt that racism?

Get rid of all benefits for each race, and then racism will be nothing more than just a word

lol.

All that said, pretty much anything that likens a black person to a monkey is racist, plain and simple. The people saying it's not reminds me of the guy from Clerks 2 trying to come to copes with reality.

*Yawn*

I'm showing my ignorance? Last time I checked the Irish (Who believe it or not, are white) were called just that. Hell, even one of the major science magazines (I'll look it up later) published an article a good hundred years ago speculating on the less-evolved Irish and how they were closer to apes then other whites.

Here's a hint. Pretty much every grouping of people you can possibly think of has been discriminated against. I have a grandparent who spent a year of his life at Auschwitz, and he still cracks holocaust jokes. The difference is that he isn't a giant blubbering vagina crying that life didn't hand him everything on a silver platter.

Your ignorance is astounding.
