Gigabyte X58A-UD3R Thread

What do you mean by speaker fill? As in like a Pro Logic type of surround processing? Also, you should use sound drivers from Realtek's site, not Gigabyte's. www.realtek.com.tw

Ah cool thanks for the link, i'll give that a try.
Speaker fill is an option i've had in previous boards that forces 5.1 from non 5.1 sources.

Post the direct link to the driver there if you find it, I didn't see it.

!@%%@!!@%%!$

I just finished my build, and pressed the power button and it won't post (No video is coming up) -_-
I have a rev 2 board.

I know for certain the power is getting to the board by all the lights. And the video card works fine (I just took it out of another computer)

The only tip I have right now is that the One fan I have attached to the CPU fan socket is spinning up a little and then stops instantly. the pull fan I have on my cpu cooler All the other fan pins are working fine and those fans keep on spinning.

Does anyone have any ideas? Is my board jacked? memory? cpu? Never had this happen to me... very sad =(
no beeps, nothing

I did a bit more fiddling. Just out of curiosity I removed the 8 pin cpu power connector and then the CPU fan continues spinning when powered on.... I'm starting to get a feeling something is going wrong in the cpu realm......

Memory: 3x2gb XMS 3 cas 7
CPU: core i7 940
psu: corsair 850HX

errr yeah... I somehow fixed this... unplugging and plugging stuff and jamming the clr cmos button (which didnt work before)

.... whew

@Trigeminal: Yes, that's the whine. It can sound different with different PSUs. What PSU do you have? I'll add you to the list.

@Jimmy: You will have the whine with the 750TX. Use a different PSU or a different MB.

lololol looks like im SOL then, i already bought the board
and the other PSU that i have (coming back from RMA =D) is a antec truepower 550 which is also on the list

(i rma'ed an antec neo he 500 because of coil whine, and im getting a truepower 550 in return )

hmmm... I wonder if I should put a matching led fan on the other side... looks a bit wierd... but it was the only extra 120mm fan I had lying around

weird i have C1e enabled but I don't hear this whine anyone is talking about.

Maybe my GPU fan is drowning it out. How loud is it?

When I open a white page it occurs

You have to disable c1e anyways if you want to overclock this beast

Nope says me running a 920 @ 4.1GHz 1.2625v. Record-breaking? No. But pretty good. My Xigmatek is not good for high overclocks even lapped and with a high speed S-Flex :/

I disagree. I find a stable overclock and then I re-enable C1E. Never had a problem with stability afterward.

Hmm, I've been using HWmonitor and I get 3 temps

TMPIN0 TMPIN1 TMPIN2, anyone know what areas these represent?

I am about to purchase parts for a new build... with the issues the gigabyte mobos have been having with whine, would you all recommend not getting one? I will be using a corsair hx850. The other choice for a motherboard was a Asus p6x58d. What would you all recommend based on your experience?

Read through this entire thread now and a few others pertaining to this issue on different forums, have decided to go with the Asus board instead.

reporting back in, just finished builing my computer
booted it up into bios, no coil squeal that i can hear by default settings
played around with all the settings and still no coil whine, however, there is this loud loud loud whine that i can hear whenever i save to bios, otherwise NO PROBLEMS to report! everything went smooth as silk!

FA bios,
TX 750
i7 940
evga GTX 260

edit:
rechecked and C1E is enabled as well

i would also like to know..

my TMPIN0 sits at around 54-58
TMPIN1 sits at 40-51
TMPIN2 sits at around 70

im more concerned about TMPIN2 i THINK its the mobo temp??
cpu is cooled by nh-u12p

TMPIN0 should be mobo temp, TMPIN1 cpu socket and TMPIN2 north bridge. Easiest way to confirm would be to check with another program such as everest, but thats what i get on mine.

Hmmm my TMPIN2 is @ around 58

Right now @ semi idle i'm 45-32-58

Running prime and i'm getting 45-49-58

So it seems like TMPIN 0 and 2 don't flux very much for me.... but yeah your Temp 2 @ 70 seems a bit high.

is ur north bridge that hot too?

Nah my mobo idles in the mid 30s and maxes out at 45 with GPU at full load of 60-65C. NB idles at 45-48 and maxes out at 54. Just a little air flow tends to really help lower the NB temp, increasing the fan speed on my hyper 212+ cpu heatsink (which is slightly above the NB too) from 1.5k to 2k lowered NB temps a few degrees. This is in an HAF 932.

hmmm do i have a defective board then? my TMPIN is constantly at around 70....
but i have no airflow over those components cause i user a tower cooler
1 case exhaust fan in the back 1 intake at the front

No, I don't think it is defective. I had the same problem. I have a Corsair H50 cooler, which takes away active fan flow near the north bridge heat sink. I mounted an 80mm fan directly over the heatsink and it now runs in the 40's even when running Prime95.

You will also notice that the computer gets "laggy" when the north bridge heatsink is too hot. There are little temperature LED's on the motherboard, and when the north bridge heatsink gets to a certain temp, the LED starts flashing. This causes high latency and things start to stutter/act choppy. I traced all this back to the north bridge heatsink temps.

http://forum.giga-byte.co.uk/index.php/topic,2166.15.html

Bottom line, you need some active air flow over the north bridge heatsink.

I'm going to mount a Scythe Mini Kaze Ultra 40mm fan on it. On top of the heatsink. Obviously going to remove the Gigabyte logo things. I will also be remounting the heatsinks using MX-3 and trying to tighten them down more, possibly converting to nuts and bolts.

If your running water cooling on a X58a-UD3R then its recommended to run a fan over the North Bridge to keep it cooler. That's what I did when I had my UD3R..

Can anyone confirm or deny that running Crossfire will disable USB 3.0? Couple threads on tomshardware are claiming that xfire will disable usb 3.0 and sata 3.

http://www.tomshardware.com/forum/276794-30-x58a-ud3r-sata-xfire

I'm pretty sure something along these lines this is similar for all boards with native support for the new interfaces. current chipsets weren't meant to handle the bandwidth of the new interfaces so it's redirected from the pci slots, or something to that degree.

another update, so i installed anohter exhaust fan in my case , my NB temps dropped a bit more to around 50 ish from 70'ish

anyways, some reference pictures for people interested
this is noctua nh-U12p se2

as you can see, with the fan installed, you wont' be able to have ram with flashy/tall heatsinks in slot 1, otherwise in the other slots you will be fine

and a pic with everything installed

again after about 2 weeks, i have yet to have any coil squeal issues (bios FA)

Noticed the other day while the forums were kaput that gigabyte posted new beta BIOS for this board, F6j. They are dated June 15th but were definitely posted later than that because I've been checking the site about every other day. There also aren't any release notes so who knows what they are supposed to fix. Anyone tried these out? Any idea if these are more "fresh" than the FVB BIOS mentioned at overclockers? Really want to put these to the test since I still experience weird stability issues when I push my system but I'm a little weary of installing beta BIOS. Never had a coil whine problem, just fairly regular crashes even at stock settings and low temps.

So I just finished my first build - was pretty proud of myself, came down to the moment of truth and..... nothing. Womp womp.

Anyway here's the deal - I did the whole build grounded and didn't drop anything - so I'm sure nothing was broken from my newb-i-ness. :p

All the fans are running, and the lights on the fans go. My twin MSI gtx 460 cyclone fans are running. I get a beep on power on - and some lights on the mobo, followed by a second short beep 30-60 seconds later - then usually 15 seconds or so until the lights go dead (but fans stay spinning). Went through a bit of trouble shooting and trying to CLR CMOS my way into a working rig - but to no avail. Seriously worn out. I've checked the video cards to make sure they're seated properly. Triple checked the ram (which was installed following the gigabyte suggested set up for DDR3 ram - I have OCZ 2000mhz ram I believe - I can double check if it is making a difference - but a friend of mine is running the same ram on the same mobo with the same proc - so I doubt it's that.

CPU cooler (megahalems) is on nice and snug with thermal paste spread on both the CPU (i7-930) and the mega before installation - not too much - but a decent bit, I'd say anyway. And I have a decent brand new PSU - XFX modular 750w.

Everything was plugged in according to directions - either from my case (HAF 922) or from the Mobo or the individual part. I'm thinking maybe I'm gonna have to RMA the mobo - but who knows - figured I'd ask here first.

Thoughts?

Greatly appreciated - thanks gang,

Also - I've tried running a single RAM and a single GPU - still getting the same issue. Pulled out the GPU just to see - same. So I'm thinking: ram, mobo, proc. But then again - I'm new at this....

Try memory sticks in the white slots. Using the blue slots before using white has caused memory problems with some people.

Make sure the supplemental EPS 12v connector (8 pin connector upper left of board) is connected.

Supplemental PCIe power to the video cards (2 - 6+2pin connectors marked PCI-E & don't try to use the extra 2 pins).

That's all I have for now ... I mention cause they're commonly forgotten.

Well I have been wanting to use this board for a build but the first release had massive IRQ problems for my partner when using a PCI-e 1X Connector card for a Pro Audio 1U DSP rack. That got fixed last summer, but whenever these manufacturers are quick to launch these things happen. Thankfully we have feverish gamers to and reviewers who cackle loudly and cause Tier 1 guys to make sure the board can be used for gaming first. This helps out us audio guys very much so thanks.
Now that I have seen this board working well with many folks I am going to jump in and use 64bit Windows 7, a single 256GB SSD and an i7 930.
Between the review guys and all of you I now feel confident that this board is stageworthy and will run an entire showrrom 6 nights a week.
Thanks for all of the tweaking and debugging guys.
What a great forum.
If I can ever be of any assistance in the audio world, feel free to contact me as I have been using DAW's live for 12 years. Only this year I will overclock and quit playing it safe.
My DSP racks do not need any help, but certain VST/Native CPU apps I use require massive amounts of RAM w/ low latency and high speed, as well as the benefits from increased IPSs' from OC'ing................
Thanks...

Hi,
I started a thread about this issue here:
http://hardforum.com/showthread.php?t=1536667

Will read the posts in this thread to see if anyone else has had my problems. It boils down to 2 of these motherboards having similar issues, not recognizing all 12 gigs of ram and the latest board not properly recognizing the cpu frequency.
